We have begun to modify two of the Thargoid Sensors, to take up our pre-recorded messages. In the next days, we will be finished, and can bring them to the Thargoids.

I think in the long run it is a good idea to think about what to send them. I'll prepare some of these modified Thargoid Sensors, and deliver them to the Thargoids. But that is just a first step -- in an attempt to try to learn their language-- what should we send them? We have basically three modes of communications:

a) Wireframe images (via Thargoid Sensor)
b) 2d b/w pictures (via Thargoid probe)
c) galactic coordinaes (via Thargoid Link)

The latter one could be used to transmit numbers in general, I think. If you had these options at your disposal to engage dialogue with a species of which you don't know whether they understand you / what they want from you, what do you send?

...we see that Thargoids (active in 3270's in the Peregrina system) can and do talk to and work with humans, they not only can understand human speech, but it's possible for humans to talk to them in Thragoid "clicking and chittering" by making the sounds - though the person doing that was cybernetically enhanced, and I imagine it's probably not much better than baby talk to Thargoids. Not only that, they can also build things for humans to use and live in, so they have a deep understand of our biology, as evidenced by ripping the heart out of someone (they clearly knew where the heart is and what it does!).

in short - Thargoids in ED Lore (the novels are Lore), are entirely capable of not only understanding human language, they understand human psychology and are capable of understanding how humans will react to things.

Given this, a project to talk to them should be definitely attempted, and I sincerely hope that Fdev allow this to move forward!

Interesting, I did not know that. From the current in-game point of view, I think it is fair to assume, however, that no one today (apart people form INRA / AEGIS maybe) knows how to communicate with them, given that until recently, 99.9% of the population didn't even know they existed for real. So, apart from top secret records in some labs, I think we need to re-learn the whole language at least.

Totally agree! I think pioneering a project to communicate with the Thargoids is exactly the right course of action, especially since these Thargoids are inscrutable.

I was stunned when AEGIS pretty much immediately started making weapons, I was expecting them to investigate all routes of contact with the Thargoids (including making communication systems), but I guess like so many things they leave it to civilians to pick up the slack.

Second Picture is either a nice photoshop, or this is going somewhere as you'd have had to get Fdev to sanction the unique cargo type...

According to "premonition" - Drew Wagers second novel, there is a group called "the club" who must be in contact with the thargoids as "they" know of the two thargoid dynasties and the thargoid civil war and the way one dynastie is planning on using us humans as a meat-shield against the other. So I'm thinking that "they" have the aforementioned translation system, but "we" do not, and as such "we" need to go with project mercury.

This makes me think what is the best way to try to communicate with them?

In my opinion I would use all three thargoid artifacts:

1) THARGOID SENSOR: Showing the depction of a human ship (a code already known by us)
2) THARGOID PROBE: Showing a human next to a Thargoid Ship (as we don't actually have any image of an actual Thargoid)
3) THARGOID LINK: With the system and coordinates for a meeting.

So, let's say we can succesfully meet the Thargoid somewhere (I would select a random Thargoid wreckage base). The first thing the Thargoid will find is the same ship we depicted with the Thargoid Sensor. The second he will see, after scanning, is a human, as depicted in the Probe. So, they should be quite convinced that we did schedule a meeting with them.

But, what then?

I believe we could add some extra messages using mathematics. For instance, pitagoras theorem (a regular triangle, with the numbers 3, 4 and 5) just to proof that we are smart.
Alo we could use some more practical communication attempts. Such as deploying a Guardian's artifact, destroying it immediatly and deploying a recorded sound saying "enemy" or "peace".

I am totally for a peaceful attemp towards the thargoids. Maybe poeple need to seperate from the mankind of pew pew and join a new way of peace where weapons only have a place to defend from those who still have this caveman mentality.

the basic method to communicate would be figuing out how they "see" because pictures speak a thousend of words, and showing them something they can see is the first way to map our language and theirs.

you know like a book for kids. actually we could even very simply give them soem self playing holo-video player showing us to do bathinc math like 1-1 = 2 and so forth. That teaches them how our numbers look like.
Further it shows basic things like food, and it's names, other things like our physiology, arm, leg and so fort.
Given they aren't just naturally evolved insects if lower inteligence acting like ants, they would easily understand that we start teaching them our way to communicate. And this would ultimately lead them to do the same with us and trying to respond in out language. GIVEN they want to.

it is highlikely to expect they know we are smart, I doubt they have not recognised us flying around in spaceships.

The data shown to you above should convince you (and FDev) that Canonn actually posesses the technological means to alter a Thargoid Sensor in this way. Now we just need to deliver these altered TSs to the Thargoids, and hope they respond.
