ruling about relative mouse is out

I'm one of those weirdos (apparently) that uses twist for roll, and left right for yaw
*head explodes*
I bet that's frustrating if someone else tries to play...like having a go at an FPS when someone doesn't have the vertical inverted so you just end up looking at your feet in a fire fight :D

Ofc it's easier. It's pretty much impossible to fly in FAoff with absolute mouse mode. Everything is easier than what is impossible.

No.. its easyer than with a hotas. Thats what i mean. I explain slewhere in the post that without reletive mouse its super hard to controll even than hotas..

Ok after a bit more testing.. its travel time that makes the difference. If you put mouse widget on and the mouse dot you can do non reletive mouse just fine.

Its the ability to very quikly find zero on a mouse and then very uickly counter and inputs that make is so easy to use.

A flight stick you have to wave around like yamiks in heat if you want to achive simular effects.

The mouse can reach max input in a fraction of a second as its so sensative and with reletive mouse you dont have to find zero as its always just where you are so its even quiker to counter any movement and then recounter from there rather than traveling back to zero.

So after even further testing based on this...

If i set my out side dead zones on my flight stick to 50% or below what they were, it masivly decreases the travel to reach max input and makes it easyer to counter movement as a result. However you need to be a bit finer in you movements to achive small inputs.

Again this is incorrect, you are seeing these results because your settings are not fine tuned to your method of input, plain and simple.

Thats exactly what im saying.. by fine tuning my joystick inputs buy upping the sensativity (would be nice to have joystick center button) you can make faster more precise corections.

Or if im missing the point.. perhaps enlighten me?

I could totally do a PVP fight with only a keyboard FA On, FA off? probably not as there ins't enough control there.

If I had the time to setup, I could even do an entire PVP fight on bananas...

Yeah I've seen a lot of your dakka FAon videos lately and there's a lot of key sounds coming from the background (keypad I guess). But I'm genuinely curious about the trick that makes absolute mouse viable in FAoff.

Edit: I hope it's not the "center mouse" keybind, that would be too much woodpecking :)

Do people really need example of how FA OFF without relative is possible?

To me this seems like a rhetorical question. A lot of people need some help with this game sometimes, it seems. If you want to do a tutorial or something, sure. I think it's more to do with what people get used to and learning the hand-eye coordination for it.

The core of this percived unfarness comes NOT from controll method.. this is a byproduct. Its that faoff provides such a great bonus to manuverability. That why its used so much in PVP, the ability to unlatch your firing angle from your travel direction is nice but you can achive this to an extent with thruster controll. Its the ability to 180 flip your ship and change directions much faster that give the faoff pilot the advantage with the suposed dissadvantage of loss of controll.. but with the right input methods you can largely mitigate the loss of controll and this alows the player to take advantage of the faoff mechanic in ways the uninitiated cant or dont.

So lessen or remove the faoff bonus to manuverability.. or add some to fa on.

This will however lower the skill cealing a bit.. but if that celaing has reached the point thats its more about input method than actual ingame skill perhaps it should be?

I hate games with low skill celings but im not shure elite is lacking on that one so it might be able to scrifice some head room for the sake of a more even playing field in this regard.

Would be nice to hear if the faoff meta is so prevalent on console.. as the input method is for the moste part universal.

its simple, its just solid control over my input, my settings are fine tuned to what I am comfortable with.

Not sure anyone asked for it, but sure - knock yourself out.

PVP, Keyboard and mouse, FA-OFF, with relative mouse movement disabled.

We’d need a video of you actually playing, rather than a game recording which could easily be edited.

you wouldn't need video of my mouse and keyboard, the mouse widget would prove its relative off.

This is no bonus to being FA OFF at all... all FA OFF is doing is turning off any counter thrust applied automatically, you effectively switch to manual control over automatic. I guess its like claiming a Manual is better than an Automatic, its more a case of preference and situation.

I have been owning known PVPers for the last few weeks in a FULL FA ON ship... I will post some links in sec.

If I'm not mistaken, I think some of the rates were a little higher with F/A off? This may have been earlier on. I seem to remember hearing that from some of the devs even, it being a sort of bonus for using it or something over the computer assisted correction. Maybe this wasn't or is no longer actually the case.

It may have just been responsiveness or something like that too, if anything. Hmm...

No, the bonus people feel is the game is not countering your vector at all, you have 100% control over the amount of thrust you put out, so you can put 100% of your thrusters into turning a very specific direction with no counter to your vector.

All of these fights where against FA OFF pilots in agreed PVP using fully engineered death FDL setups, I am full FA ON with relative off.

This is how is was in alpha and beta then Frontier nerfed FA-ON. Lateral and reverse speed is much higher in FA off.
To test simple bring your ship to a halt...go full throttle laterally, or reverse, once max speed is reached simply switch to FA-off...you'll instantly see your ship gain more speed.
FA-on has capped lateral and reverse speeds.

Correct, roll and pitch rates are higher, or to be more accurate, the acceleration into a maneuver is higher FA-OFF.

Besieger is partly correct though, there isn’t really any advantage, it is just different flying styles.

For a while after gamma we did have some huge advantages in fa-off, ability to maintain max boost speed, much higher deceleration rates. Devs adjusted it all because it was too easy
to escape npc’s.. Kinda funny considering we now fly G5 dirty tuned ships against essentially stock npc’s.

One other current fa-off advantage is the ability to maintain 4 PIP engine velocity with zero pips ( or any pip
Combination)
