My apologies for not updating the list as frequently the last few weeks. The combination of a sleep disorder and depression makes me very lazy.
Yes, the nav computer is awful...
What was good for me about arriving at Sagittarius A* was that someone else arrived at the same time (salutations, Commander, you know who you are). Having not encountered anyone for weeks, that made my evening. Mind you, I also thought that if there is anywhere remote where the chance of encountering another explorer is quite high, then it would be Sag. A*.
I'm now heading out of the core as quickly as I can... Too many stars... It's too bright, and the nav computer irritates me immensely! Ten minutes is about standard for calculating 1000ly routes in the core... And sometimes the route planner simply hangs at 98 or 99%.
After hearing about such issues I seemed to have a relatively trouble-free trip. At around 5k LY to the core I had one 1k route plot take 4-5 minutes, and then my penultimate took 13-14 minutes(!), but then the final only took 90 seconds (I actually timed that one). Finally made it. That nav computer really has trouble doesn't it near the core!
My rule of thumb, after doing a 4400ly out, 200ly across, 4400ly back, journey in Gamma back in November 2014 before we had any in-game route planning... is that plotting each jump by hand, especially if you want to surface scan the star first, approximately doubles the time for each jump. Given I can make 2000ly/hour with the current route planner, so 30 mins per 1000ly plot, that means the route planner would have to take 30 minutes to find the route in order to not be worth using.Made it there yesterday! Such a long trip to just look at the thing and go home... but I did it!
The route planning was a pain. When I was within 1,000 LY I found it easier just to plot each jump manually, the routing was just taking too long. Don't think it slowed me down too much though.![]()
