Sagittarius-Carina Mission - Route and camps

So ... uh ... looks like I jinxed myself, because I spotted a nice ringed planet to land on, and totally forgot to turn on my shields!

I have written a sticky note of shame:

Not the most auspicious start :-/ Not sure whether I should keep going or turn back now, repair the hull, and then restart.

Greetings from Camp 18 ('Last Stop Saloon'). I intend to follow the arm clockwise from BP (Camp 19).

There are 3 landables here (planet 1 and 2 and moon 4A) all with moderate surface features (mostly craters). 4A has a few elevated ranges and spacious craters with mountains.

A neighboring system 18.16 ly away (FLECKIA PW-W C4-0) has an Earthlike World at a mere 266 ls from the star. Although the pressure is pretty high (almost 4 atmospheres) the temperature is moderate! It has a landable moon (0.28G), maybe worth a visit :)

System map

View from the moon

Surface coordinates and gravity: 85.40 / 53.12 / 0.28G.

I never know in what threads to post what, but I will happily post more POI's as I travel if thats appreciated :)

Safe travels everyone!

Thats a good start! If you post a screenshot of the system map and possibly a nice shot of the landingsite itself then I will relocate the camp to that location. I will also need the gravity and coordinates of the landing site and a suggestion for a name :)

I would probably return, repair and head back out as quickly as I could if it was me. Then pretend nothing ever happened :). At least you look to be fairly close to the bubble still if you decide to hop back in.

Yeah, I swallowed my pride. It was only 25 jumps, took me about half an hour to get to the closest system I could find with repairs. I feel much better now! Right call compared to the harrowing prospect of trying to make the entire journey on 38% hull! This is a learning experience, and I should count myself lucky it didn't turn out worse!

Time to make the journey back out, and then I will resume my trip!

Here's a shot of the planet that caused all this trouble. I was sooooo excited to finally see rings from a planet's surface! (Click to embiggen.)

Added images and coordinates to my original post. As for a name .. I kinda like 'Last stop Saloon' so if you don't mind lets keep it.

After arriving at TRUECHEA KM-W E1-3 (Camp 15).
I discovered it is just a single B class star without any landable planets.

I suggest that the Camp gets moved to TRUECHEA SD-T D3-14, which I call "Pandragonis".
It is a F Class Star with 7 landable High Metal Constant Worlds and is about 21LY away from the initial Campsite System.
Pandragonis 2, a planet with 0.1g, has at 43.3604° and -87.2133° a plain, which lays in between a mountain range and a canyon.
So it should be perfect for potential gathering shenanigans.
As a name for it I suggest: "The Oncorhynchus Plain".

Hi CMDRs, today I set out from Beagle Point.

Going to follow Stage 3 to the bubble.
I haven't decided were I'll be flying in, (Open, Kamzel or the FGE Group).

I suggest we fly in Kamzel, as most people are in that group according to my last list. If anybody arrives first, and wants to suggest a meet up then I suggest starting a separate thread, otherwise it might get lost, for instance Joghiarus has found a nice spot at Camp 18.
As this is FGE I also suggest we don't have formal meet ups unless this is what people want, more of a land and see who else is there.

At the Q & A at 18.00 IGT today on FleetComm I would like to discuss different approaches for supporting meet ups - so be there and give your input :)

How about 'Pale Blue Dot Patio' in honor of Carl Sagan and a reminder of home so far from home?

I like it. Will update info on Camp 18 later today.

I am noting this as a possible candidate to relocate camp 15 to. But you have not convinced me entirely yet (I am a tough customer… ;) )
- seven HMWs are a good find - but not that uncommon. Its great that they are all landable, but are there any distinctive surface features or materials to be found there?

Ideally a camp should have some unique or distinctive feature. This part of the Sag-Car arm is really tough in that regard. Not only are there no major nebulae. The rarity of black holes, neutron stars and wolf-rayets means that also planetary nebulae are hard to find here.

So basically I am asking you to find an oasis in a dessert.

Have another look around the system and planets - see if you can find something to convince me :)
- could you upload an image of the topography of each planet and also an image of the stats of each planet from the system map?
- perhaps there is something in the combined variety of the seven landable worlds that makes this system special - perhaps we just have to look for it in the data...

Guys - if you'd like - you can submit your postcards to the official Sag-Car Gallery as well. Personally I think it'd be nice to have them all collected there in case they get "lost" in this thread. It might become a very big thread and I'd want anyone joining us later on to easily be able to see where everyone else set off from. :)

Go here or here to submit. You can see submitted postcards at http://www.sagittariuscarinagallery.com/category/postcards/

As long as that's okay with you, Corbin.

OP updated with info about private groups.

I got a question from a new member asking if we had a private group for this mission. The answer to that is both yes and no. We have a private group called FGE EXPLORERS that anyone is welcome to join (it follows the Mobius code of conduct). But you are not required to play in this private group to take part in this mission. I suspect many people from Distant Worlds would like to stay in Kamzel and that is totally fine as well.

But obviously if you try to gather people to a meetup you should make an effort to host it in OPEN or a group that everyone has access to.

Hi Corbin... how do I get into the FGE EXPLORERS group?

Hi Corbin... how do I get into the FGE EXPLORERS group?

Send a friend request to FGE EXPLORERS in game. After you are friends (this may take a day or two) you should be able to apply for (and instantly join) the private group in game.

Please remember that this group follows the Mobius code of conduct. It is to be used for exploration and social gatherings.

I have now documented more of TRUECHEA SD-T D3-14 and added some more potential camp sites for camp 15.
http://imgur.com/a/fJsqp
(note the reason it is mostly just the site towards the sun, is because of RL lighting.)

I also explored some more systems in a radius of about 70LY around the initial camp site (TRUECHEA KM-W E1-3) and have discovered no interesting landable planets which are worth reaching. Most Systems in that part of space seem to have no planets at all.

So this is probably the best "Oasis" you can find around there.
