Hardware & Technical Saitek x52 series Q&A (and general discussion thread) Got a issue? Look in here first.

I have the X52 Pro and got the same issue last night right in the middle of a freaking fight, it ended up killing me.

Now, I'm not sure if this is an issue with the game or hardware related. I don't think (and I hope) it's not the latter so I'm wondering if any other user can confirm if his setup has the same problems or not.

Basically, seemingly at a random point in the game, all lights on my joystick start to flicker and it becomes unresponsive for a couple of seconds. It's random and I cannot pinpoint the cause.

The reason I'm inclined to think that it's an issue with the game is because it ALWAYS happens while I'm browsing station menus or the galaxy map, and randomly everywhere else.

Is there an X52 pro user who can verify it for me?

thank you

Hi,

it could be a few things. Could you check in task manager what your Saitek MFD file system driver is doing? If it's taking a lot of CPU cycles you better reboot. That should clear it.

In my case it was caused by a bad connector. A short power disruption (you see flickering blue leds?) causes all kinds of hell, including calibration problems.

OK cool.

So it sounds like the X52 Pro will just work as long as I plug it in.

I will try that. If it doesn't work I will have to try installing the drivers from the website.

UPDATE:

-I doesn't occur in COMBAT SCENARIOS.
-I played three hours with the x52 plugged in USB 1 and it worked flawlessly. Something improved server side? Blind luck?
-plugging it into USB 2 or 3 might have improved the situation but since it started working correctly in USB 1 it might be anything ;)

Iy is power related. I found thst if I shared it with other power hungry devices on the same header pair it flickered and kept repeating commands.

It now lives alone in a powered hub

x52 pro is plug and play with windows 8.1 64, you will be pleased to hear. I probably downloaded the latest drivers. Apart from one minor issue with the pinky trigger, which may just be the way I have adjusted the grip, it is a brilliant setup, feels amazing.

Plug it in and you will find it appears as an option on controls. Dont try reconfiguring it though in the control menu as it always seems to default to EDs standard x52 pro settings, which means, as far as I can tell, I will have to copy the preconfigured settings over to the 'custom' settings so that I can add the keystroke commands for voice attack.

You will love it :)

I got a chance to try it out yesterday. Works very well! I am only having a problem with looking around. For now I have to use the keyboard buttons "1-4" to select ship UI systems. Is there something I can change to make the X52 Pro work for viewing?

By default you can click the little wheel in and use the view hat to look around, but when a menu opens up I can't navigate it because it uses the same controls as to look around!

In the properties screen there is a "MFD" tab, if you UNcheck the "Enable Clutch Mode" you can program the "i button" on the throttle from ED. Otherwise it is not programable.

I have an x52 and I would recommend getting the newest drivers and the configuration software. On the x52 I had to make an empty profile for E: D and delete all mode settings and change the clutch button not to lock to get the use of all buttons, before that I could either not use button 3 or 6 in elite depending on the driver version.

could you - would you share that profile?

Thanks

I think I read about this late last night but did not get a chance to look into it.

OK - once I am home today I will have to find it. When you say properties screen are you talking about joystick properties in Windows, or somewhere inside of ED?

In Win 7 its in "Start/Devices and Printers" then rightclick on the x-52 icon and chose gamesettings (or something similar i have a Swedish Win7 version so..)

I do not use Saiteks SST programing software but i do have the drivers installed.

Default X52 scheme in ED has a solution.

The pinky trigger on your joystick should release your look so you can toggle left or right with the hat on our joystick(by your thumb), after you select/see what you needed to see, just hit the pinky trigger again to snap back to your forward facing view.

What is the 'pinkie trigger'? I was in the game for like 30 minutes trying to see how to look around / navigate menus with the joystick and could not get it.

Here is a pic of the controller with labels, can you please tell me what label you are talking about?

Where it says "NOSEWHEEL STEERING", there should be a trigger there under your pinky finger.

You can see it in this picture(ignore the red circle).

Oh wow, I did not even know about this. I will have to look again tonight.

Thanks!

If you remove the mouse defaults on the X52 it free's up a couple of extra buttons that you can use for voice coms/cargo scoop/landing gear/what ever.

I currently have everything mapped to the X52 except cargo scoop and landing gear, for those I use Voice Attack(there is a 21 day free trial FYI before you have to fork over $8USD to keep using it).

Works perfect for the Rift(well when I'm not having the weird kb/mouse issues using the rift anyhow...)

So far when using the DK2, the only problem I have had is reading some text when in the Map View.

BTW - Do you have a solution for when you are in a UI view, you have to use the top left hat to change tabs, and the center hat to move up/down. It would make more sense if it was all in one right?

I never considered that....might be tricky/impossible to do with out some bindings being changed on the developers side.

Help configuring Saitek X52

So I've been playing for a couple days now, and pretty much got a control setup that works. However it's not quite there yet. I have 3 analog controls on the throttle that don't do anything yet, but I can't figure out how to configure them. For a start I'd like one of them to zoom the radar, can't get that to work at all. I've set it to emulate Page Up/Down, but ED doesn't recognise it. Ideally I want it in full analog mode, but that doesn't seem possible just yet.

Any hints, or am I just SOOL at the moment?

Oh, and is it possible to use the Mode dial in game?

Those buttons on the throttle were built with FSX in mind and rarely works with other games.

If you want to use the Mode buttons as a additional button presses;

use a blank profile
delete ALL the Mode shift states
create a new shift state

Then you can assign buttons to the modes.
