Hardware & Technical Saitek x52 series Q&A (and general discussion thread) Got a issue? Look in here first.

against my better judgement I went ahead and purchased the x52 pro and should have it today after work. I'll soon find out if it's worth the 140 dollar markup over my logitech extreme3d pro.

Arnak, thank you so much! Now it works! Steel can't bind top and bottom clicks on my thruster... I just can't find it it Profiler.

I have an intermittent issue with my X52: every so often it simply stops, when I fire up ED none of the buttons or hat switches do anything. Note that it has never happened whilst playing, only in-between sessions.

It's annoying but doesn't happen very often, rebooting the machine and restarting ED sorts it out every time. Wierd.

Anyone else experiencing the same problem?

(Did a search but can't find anything related).

I have had that happen a couple of times, I pull the usb cable, wait 10 seconds and plug it back in. Seems to do it for me.

I have the same behavior when I put my gaming box to sleep mode. It seems the madcatz driver doesn't support the ACPI suspend states very well...

Never thought of that, I'll try it next time, ta.

Yeah seems to be the same, generally happens when I sleep the machine.

Glad it's not just me then, thanks cmdrs :)

Hi folks.
I have had an X52 pro for some time, yet I feel I could set the buttons up better.

I will get Voice attack (Meaning to for ages) but never got round to it.

But before I start the great REMAPPING, that will no doubt take some getting use to I was wondering if anyone has done a Maximum button usage guide.

As there are some buttons I still dont use!

The Mode rotator on the right of the stick would make a great Cycle weapons or at least deploy! As I currently use the default button.

Perhaps there is a way to have it light up red for weapons, green for all stowed, yellow/blue for KWS etc?

I alos need a way to use the wing functions as I never added them after 1.2

Had an X52 Pro now for around 9 months.

I did have to remove the rubber detente thingy from inside the throttle as it was stuck and to be fair I prefer it without.

Otherwise I have to keep maintaining the throttle by ensuring all the cicruit board connections inside are seated properly as they loosen after a while due to how they are placed within the throttle because of the throttle action. However, mine has now got a dead 'E' button (on top of the throttle) and in flight the multidirectional button that sits under your index finger (on the throttle) is getting temperamental for moving right. In the system map that button is fine. Go figure. Also, I have the joycpl open when using it and have noticed that the throttle action also impacts on the throttle sliders. Again this is down to how it has been made/designed.

The joystick works fine.

To sum up, I wouldn't buy a Saitek HOTAS again, for £150 you get a decent joystick but a complete POS throttle.

Not entirely happy with the X52 Pro either, even though I have not used it all that much yet. On the plus side:

  • If you can get it for the right price, it's a very precise and versatile HOTAS setup with tons of options. Good for practically anything.
  • It has a certain spacey coolness factor to it with all its configurable LEDs.

The list of downsides I found in my relatively short time with it (I didn't attempt any mods, yet):
  • Despite some metal knobs it feels pretty tacky.
  • Parts of the Button layout are hardly what I'd call well thought out. The two way switches at the Joystick's base are oddly placed. You have to take the hand from the throttle - depending on your setup - and reach across your lap to use them. I'd say they'd be better placed at the throttle's base, where it's not as critical to remove the hand for some seconds.
  • The drivers/software and its integration - at least into Elite - is a mess where details are concerned. You have to go to the Windows settings to disable the clutch before some of the buttons (namely the "i" button on the throttle) do even seem to register. Then some buttons have to be deassigned in the Saitek/Madcatz software, before those can reliably be used in Elite. >.<
  • The two "bumps" in the throttle movement are really annoying in a game where 0%-throttle and after burner doesn't have to be physically separated from the normal 0%-100% throttle.

CHEAP, EASY QD MOUNTING.

Getting all the bindings sorted isn't the only problem with the X-52. There's also the little matter of how to stop it moving about when you're mashing them to the max in combat. I started off using 4 big gobs of (generic) blu-tack, but decided to adopt a more elegantly engineered solution.

This is a fairly easy & cheap way to get the stability required in a way that lets you convert back to a work-desk quickly....

PARTS
4x 8mm M5 threaded inserts
4x 55mm socket-head M5 bolts (Allen key)
4x M5 spinners (wing grips for M5 hexagon socket screws)
a dozen M5 washers

All but the spinners I was able to source for a couple of quid on good 'ol eBay. If you live in the states, or northern Europe, the spinners are easy to find 'retail' but in the UK I could only find a wholesale supplier. A respectful & informative email to the sales manager secured me a 'free sample' of the 4 spinners I needed, so hats (helmets?) off to Paul Mulvey of Norelem LTD (Birmingham) for making this do-able :)

TOOLS
4mm, 5mm, 8mm & 10mm wood bits
Cordless drill
5mm & 6mm Allen keys

I don't see the need to do a full step-by-step 'how to', if you've got the tools & a smidgen of DIY skill, all will be obvious ;)

Here's the assembled bolt & a spare insert lying beside an already-mounted one...

Setting Up Modes For X-52 Pro

Greetings Everyone!

This is my first post ever on any type of forum site. After committing hours of searching and tinkering I decided to finally ask for help myself.

What I want to do:

Have the mode switching on my stick work so that switching to landing mode deploys my landing gear (maybe more, once I solve this)--and almost anything like that.

As far as I know, the only way to do this (and the way I would like to) is by using the SST software from Saitek, and I have figured out how the software works (fallbacks, programming buttons, etc.) so I don't need a tutorial for all of that.

Questions I have:

First of all, any advice for how people have fixed this problem is going to be greatly appreciated!

Does the control setup in the game need to be set to anything in particular? (Keyboard and Mouse, Classic Keyboard, X-52 Pro)

Also if nothing is being registered from the controller to the computer (having notebook open and a controller button bound to "T", and pressing it and nothing comes up) how does one fix that, or does it not need to be solved at all?

Thank you fellow commanders,

CMDR ClarinetHero

Thought I'd just add in my own experiences with X52 Pro driver and sst installation on Windows 10 Pro 64 bit. Nothing special, but might help someone. TL;DR, 3) has the best result (for me anyhow)

1) Tried going the official route (silly me!)
Went to the Saitek website, downloaded the 64 bit drivers and software listed (for Windows 7 and above)
http://www.saitek.com/uk/down/drivers.php

Got two files, which I installed:
Saitek_X52Pro_Flight_Controller_00000003_64_Drivers_pfw (version 7.0.39.0)
Saitek_X52Pro_Flight_Controller_00000003_64_Software_pfw (version 7.0.39.0)

Result:
Drivers installed fine, Control Panel shows everything working.
SST software fails to install properly, unsigned driver. The Profile Editor appears to be there though. In Device Manager there is a device with a warning: Programmable Enumerator.
Elite recognises most buttons, but some things not working properly (mouse stick not working, as well as some buttons even though shift states have been removed from the Profile Editor and Clutch mode disabled from the MFD tab in the Control Panel)

2) Meddling with Windows driver signing

Found two ways of circumventing driver signing. First involved rebooting with troubleshooting options (hold down shift while clicking on Reboot, allow unsigned driver installation).
This allowed installation of the drivers for the Programmable Enumerator (found four devices under Programming Support). However, on next reboot driver signing turns back on, and you have a driver issue again.

Second way involved turning off driver signing permanently. Found a guide for Windows 8 that worked:
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...ment-win/a53ec7ca-bdd3-4f39-a3af-3bd92336d248
Disabling Driver Signature Enforcement In Windows 8 Permanently
Step 1. Open the Windows command promt as “Run as Administrator”.
Step 2. Run “bcdedit -set loadoptions DISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS” (without the “”).

Step 3. To finalize the process run “bcdedit -set TESTSIGNING ON” (without the “”).
Step 4. Reboot and you’re done.
To disable it do step 1 and run these commands on step 2 and 3:
Step 2. “bcdedit -set loadoptions ENABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS” (without the “”)
Step 3. “bcdedit -set TESTSIGNING OFF” (without the “”)
Then do step 4 and you’re done.

Result: After turning off driver signing, all buttons were working in Elite. The mousestick still wouldn't work though, and I had a nagging feeling that perhaps turning driver signing off entirely was not a good idea. Turned it on again and the SST driver stopped working again (as I suspected it would).

3) Reading forums and finding a good combination of driver and software on the FTP server
Learnt that there was a Saitek FTP server:
ftp://ftp.saitek.com/pub/software/full/

Found a newer driver which I downloaded, and a previous version of SST:
Saitek_X52Pro_Flight_Controller_7_0_40_9_x64_Drivers_pfw
Saitek_X52Pro_Flight_Controller_7_0_34_109_64_Drivers_and_Software (zip file, you want the SST software only : Smart Technology 7_0_27_13 64Bit)

Result: Windows and Elite recognises the mouse stick and buttons! It couldn't have been easier...well, it could, and it should Saitek/MadCatz!
Last thoughts: If I don't have the LED brightness turned to the max, there is some flicker similar to candle light. Oddly, the problem seems less if I keep the Control Panel open?!

Anyone with a X52 has upgraded to Windows 10?

I had, from Windows 7 64 bit.
Had to resize my 100 mb partition on my boot disk to 512 mb and then i could update it with ease over my old OS.
Seemed to work fine, but as i plugged in my X52 the mouse cursor was wandering to the up right corner of the screen
and when i tried to unplug my X52 my mouse was not working when i tried to click, only a beep appeared and Windows 10 went bananas.
I had not tried to install the drivers again or to try others, but returned to my Windows 7 paragon backup (Which took 10h and several different attempts to finally work).
I think i now wait several months (as i wanted to do in the first place) to really upgrade to 10.

Now i wonder: Has anyone a X52 got working right on Windows 10?

The mouse wandering happens a lot. Wiggle the Mini stick and it stops. Yes, if you unplug your X52, it will freeze the system mouse control, and if your lucky, not the keyboard. The only recourse is to restart (use the keyboard).

I used the current version of the Drivers and the SST software and it works fine on Windows 10 X64. Others have said they had driver signing issues and other things, but Mine went smooth. Most of my issues in Win10 is due to a hardware issue of my USB ports not quite being 100% and I have to sometimes reboot once or twice (my system is over 5 years old and a little flaky). Need to replace my machine this year I think.

Has anyone found a way to manage the scroll "speed" of the throttle wheel in-game?
If I set the wheel to scroll one line at a time in mouse settings in windows, it works fine there. In Elite though it appears it is more sensitive.
I've mapped the scroll wheel to cycle target subsystems, but one notch on the wheel scrolls three subsystems.

I have not encountered that issue, but then my mouse is also a Mad Catz mouse, so it may be keeping them separate. If the scroll settings in Windows is affecting the scroll wheel, maybe it is because there is no mouse specific driver installed, so with the generic driver both get set the same?
What kind of mouse and do you have its specific driver installed for it?
