Why would Interstellar Factors be removed from a station overnight?

Yesterday I was bounty hunting at the hazres near this station, and I am positive there was IF here because I turned in all my non-local bounties here then logged off for the day. Today the IF and mercenary contacts are both gone. What's going on here? Does it have to do with the CG?

Ordinarily that is a medium security system, so it normally would not have an IF. The Orion tourist board faction had a terrorist attack state active recently though, which I'm guessing is why one was present recently. It probably went away when the state ended, which seems to have happened with today's tick.

Should be final day...
Suspect this'll be one where the last few percent go quick as the FC farmers log in, notice how close the CG is to finishing, and start jumping back to unload. When you think of those numbers in terms of only 50 Cutter-loads to go...

Have any other 'mostly-solo' players found this CG insufferable?:

  • CG didn't even show up correctly to accept it in Odyssey for a day
  • Highlight the grind loop by forcing a fill-up of items at guardian site
    • log in, collect items, log out, repeat until full.
  • Highlight the inability to filter or even 'show' permit locked systems
    • ...cause I didn't know I was in for this ride when I started
  • Highlight the limitations of the map to build a navigable route
    • .... I've spent hundreds of jumps trying to get around COL70
    • .... and it's looking increasingly likely the CG will end before I get there as I simply don't have hours to spend 'jumping' and 'looking' for a way around.
I've got 5k+ hours in this game... but I've never been out this way and didn't realize THIS was the joke FDEV was playing on the community this time with the CG.
Basically: 'Screw you if you tried to do this on your own. Should have checked for route or find someone with an FC first.'

... I'm about 30 jumps away from self-destruct just to save myself the effort of jumping all the way back.

FDEV: w.t.f. I'm really -trying- to continue loving Elite after this Odyssey debacle... but you're not making it easy.

It's been OK for me, but I'm still in Horizons.

I take care to collect Guardian stuff in an interesting way, only relogging when I've collected everything available.

I also used the original ruin in SYNUEFE...102 and found that a delivery could easily be routed via Lembass as a waypoint.

I've been running between the CG system and Guardian space via the Witch Head all week without issue. Also served as a handy spot to have modules ordered into.

It wasn't so bad for me, but I just collected three times via limpets with my cutter. Got about 300 tons and was done in short order.

They could definitely stand to amp up the interestingness of guardian collection CGs. Asking for just relics would be an interesting way of doing it, or giving 10x the reward for relics, because they require you to actually drive your SRV around.

Alternatively, asking for Guardian Sentinel Parts would be an interesting idea, so people need to fight them.

Explorer ships were required and remain required to leave bubble... and this CG is out side the bubble...
Small-medium ships scoop items of the ground with out SRV.
To get the item for the CG and 75% tier is not requiring more than a single phantom full cargo racks...

So yes if you did not know you needed explorer class ships then yes it will be hard with out a FC because this is actually an explorer CG...
You have to scan and probe planets and fly down to surface object and explorer planet surface... this is exploration gameplay
Trading only happen after the exploring the first time...
These planet based only CGs can finaly be offered as horizons is now the base game content...

So, to re-iterate, the correct way for a solo player in game with a casual 45 ly jump range to attempt this CG:
  • Come to the forums to find all this out first
  • Use the old game
  • Have a cutter with loads of limpets (what engaging game-play)
  • Check the forums for someone else's route to CG system
    • ... because the map wont' successfully navigate around itself
    • ... and because we can't highlight the permit locked systems to map ourselves around
  • OR, check discord to book find an FC
    • ... because there's still no proper in game mechanic for such things
  • OR Start the CG from the suggested system, despite already being closer to a given guardian site
... but... all those details and mechanics have already been highlighted in game, right?
... hm... must've missed the codex entry on using limpets that way.

Just... nevermind.
Feeling like yamiks here.

Doesn't take a cutter, that's just the most efficient way of doing it.

For someone without a FC, probably the best way to do it is:

  • Read the CG.
  • Read the recent galnet article about the thargoid/guardian battleground
  • Travel to the battleground and collect either with an SRV or with your ship itself.
  • Travel to the CG system and sell off ~40 units.
  • Do this once more to reach top 75%
  • Finished

Not a huge deal. Not ideal, because the best way isn't in an SRV, but it's an interesting change of pace.

Eh? All the methods and ideas I used I thought of for myself, trying things out until I found out what works best for me. I don't usually need advice from the forum, although it's often an interesting read.

I really don't understand this line of complaint.

ED is an MMO, if one with kinda wonky multiplayer mechanics. How many MMOs scale their challenges to all be completable by solo players figuring everything out for themselves? <checks notes> Ah yes, none of them that I'm aware of. This is obviously because an unavoidable design feature of an MMO is that sometimes your players will work together to do things, and if you scale everything for the unassisted individual the challenges will be way too easy for players that cooperate.

So you're having a challenge navigating around the Barnard's Loop area. Awesome, enjoy the experience! Space is big and fairly uniform, and for the most part you can pick a direction and even in a Sidewinder start jumping until you run out of stars. We've been given one area of the galaxy where navigation is made difficult in a macro way (as opposed to the micro difficulty of picking out routes in sparse regions). You can either make use of community mapping experience to find ways around it, or approach it like a personal logic puzzle to unravel. But complaining about it here just makes me want to say, fine pick literally any other direction and go that way instead!

Same thing applies to this sentiment of, oh I just want to do this CG that's going on. Some CGs are one-off events in the bubble, you pick up your appropriate trade/combat/whatever ship and off you go. Others are part of an ongoing storyline, as this one is. If you've been paying attention at all for your 5k+ hours, you know this. So for a story CG it makes sense you might want to do some homework before jumping in. The preceding Galnet posts provide ample cues for navigating to the ancient battlefield planet, and from there you're all set. Go buy a Krait and an SRV bay from the station in the CG turn-in system if you showed up in the wrong ship. No long-distance FC/Cutter/limpet shenanigans required unless you're dead set on being in the top 10%, which you shouldn't be if you're intent on playing the solo unassisted route.

Okay, phew. End rant

I had problems with col locked systems, 41 y jump range, couldn't auto plot, tried another way. Tried plotting from Maia, plotted no problem. Can't argue about the grind, if your still doing it in a SRV go for the relics at ancient ruins site as that will net you the most money. In the end I coughed up the creds to get my Conda transported in and used limpets in the end. I wish I'd known about this method sooner, but I've really not played ED for a long time. But using limpets was the fastest way . Guess what I'm trying to say, it's no use keep nutting a wall and trying to force a method . Search function in this forums and Reddit supplied the solution to the permit locked system in about 10 minutes. If you can't find a solution to a problem, doesn't mean someone else hasn't. Anyways luck with CG if your still doing it.
