San Diego Zoo

This is probably the best project I follow in PZ since thw game launched. Awesome work!

.How is your computer doing btw?
Thanks, my computer is actually holding up better than I thought - still smooth performance with the odd stutter when playing unpaused. I've actually took further measures this time around by not including any animals in habitats that were built in previous stages, so to help performance the habitats in like the basecamp are actually empty.

Australian Outback - Outback Plaza

Alright lets continue the zoo after i had a short break last week from building. Building straight for 3 months can be quite tiring even if im just copying a design. With builders fatigue (as i call it) over, lets look at further progress in the australian outback area, there is only one more portion of the outback to complete before moving onto the urban jungle.

If anyone remembers that map of the outback, this is stage 2. The plaza area which includes a gift shop, cafe, picnic seating areas, and a large backstage area which links the parking lot to front street. There are no animals featured in this stage but rather just lots of static/empty buildings for our guests and staff.

Overview of the outback plaza, the backstage area dominates the view with large buildings serving as the center for food deliveries. A nice way to increase realism and fill large gaps would be making a cluster of service buildings like this:
Planet Zoo Screenshot 2023.10.09 - 21.43.29.92.png

A view of the backstage area from the parking lot:
Planet Zoo Screenshot 2023.10.09 - 21.40.11.92.png

And another view of the backstage area, the continued use of the rooftop air conidtioning set greatly enhances the large industrial buildings:
Planet Zoo Screenshot 2023.10.09 - 21.39.50.10.png

For our guests, we can see the sydeny's shoppe (gift shop) as the first part of the plaza. All the buildings in this plaza are empty for the sake of easy building and piece count:
Planet Zoo Screenshot 2023.10.09 - 21.11.11.13.png

On the other side, we have the sydney's grill, the cafe of the area. Lots of vibrant colors can be seen in this area of the zoo:
Planet Zoo Screenshot 2023.10.09 - 21.41.57.85.png

Lots of tables for guests are spread around the cafe building, the abundance of california african palm trees provide plenty shade in the area:
Planet Zoo Screenshot 2023.10.09 - 21.42.39.68.png

After lunch at the cafe, guests will surely visit the nearby restrooms. Custom made shutters (made of conservation slats) improves the apperance of the walls of a typically bland building:
Planet Zoo Screenshot 2023.10.09 - 21.43.00.19.png

The last remaining feature of the plaza is even more seating at the boardwalk beer garden, a beach themed area with the large boardwalk sign we saw attached to one of the backstage buildings, there is a hint in this picture for the next episode:

Australian Outback - Koala House

Finishing the tour of the australian outback, we reach the koala house. The koala house is a large colony of koalas featuring 5 habitats split up into gendered yards - 3 male and 2 female. 21 koalas are spread throughout the complex and 6 wallabies are also housed inside the habitats - parma wallaby are featured at the real zoo where i just included the red necked wallabies.

View of the koala house from the outback plaza:

The boardwalk allows us to easily see into the male koala habitats. The climbing trees will offer guests to see koalas at eye level height:
Planet Zoo Screenshot 2023.10.13 - 16.06.26.77.png

Custom signs tell us that wallabies are also found within the habitats:

Beside the male koala habitats, we can see a palm c***atoo aviary:
Planet Zoo Screenshot 2023.10.13 - 16.08.00.81.png

We now reach the more spacious female koala habitat where we can often see koalas climbing around, this australia sign will become a workshop item when i get around to the next workshop batch:

Urban Jungle Overview

With the australian outback completed, lets take a look at the next area. This is the urban jungle, probably the smallest dedicated area to animals and also noted as the worst part of the zoo. As we can imagine, the term of urban jungle means animals living in smaller habitats surrounded by a lively environment - in this case the bus tour road winds around the area area with narrow sidewalks for guests, much like an urban road.

WUvlK8 (1).jpg

Since there is no dedicated map for the urban jungle considering its age, above is a cropped version of the full zoo map. We can easily see the layout of random animals including the poor hippos in the middle of the urban jungle. The urban jungle contains the following:
  • Common hippo - Actually the largest habitat in the urban jungle, this dirt based habitat with a pool is the center of attention in the urban jungle.
DSCN4964.JPG

  • Masai Giraffe and Soemmerring's Gazelle - Another highlight of the urban jungle is the giraffe habitat, guests are also able to feed giraffes. However this is pretty small compared to pretty much every giraffe habitat i have ever built. No more than 20 metres in width for the entire habitat, about 25 percent of the habitat is actually the indoor shelter.
20200215_124417.jpg

  • Grant's Zebra and Miniature Donkey - Why, just why? Well it seems these 2 are best friends likely both retired animal ambassadors, another simple dirt habitat that wont take more than 20 minutes to take.
P1150239.JPG

  • American Flamingo - Yes this is the second out of 3 flamingo habitats at the zoo and this is the worst one out of them all. Alright grassy habitat with a small pool.
Sam_California_210.JPG

  • African crested porcupine - Not a bad habitat considering these are porcupines, this seems to be the rotational habitat that seems to house animals that the main habitats are under construction elsewhere in the zoo. Previously this habitat held the likes of giant anteater, red kangaroo, and red river hog. Note cant find an real life picture of this habitat.
  • Various small habitats - Probably not even possible to hold animals ingame, traditional small aviary like habitats hold binturong, fennec fox and kookabuura.
P1260645.JPG

  • South African Cheetah - A long stretch for cheetahs but thats pretty much it, i will say probably the worst habitat i have seen for them. I get they are animal ambassadors but it hurts having to build this when compared to the excellant cheetah habitat in the oregon zoo recreation. I probably wont bother with adding domestic dogs though unless people want to see that over on youtube.
ia5vpbnt6fz11.jpg

All being said, this is a small area in regard to actual habitats, full of wide paths and staff faciltiies. It will complete the 'top' of the zoo meaning i will be digging downwards non stop through the asian passage after completing the urban jungle. Im hoping the scale is much better this time around to avoid issues like connecting to the lost forest and habitats being way too big.

Not a comment on your building which is great but this reminds me that I often think San Diego is pretty overrated as a zoo - bearing in mind I have never visited.

It seems there are lots of mediocre enclosures and if not for all the sunshine and lush foliage - and the sheer scale of the place - I do wonder if it would still be so iconic.

Yeah I totally agree the majority of the zoo is overated these days (also from a not visited perspective). Comparing many of the habitats especially the older ones like in the urban jungle makes me think, if not for the promotional efforts in the 20th century, it would be just another zoo in california.

Looking back at older maps, it used to have a much better collection full of birds, ungulates, oceania animals and more but the habitat design has always been pretty lackluster. The only parts of the zoo that make me impressed from my research is the larger habitats in the lost forest like the gorilla Tropics habitat or the newer Africa Rocks habitats.

Urban Jungle

The urban jungle is a compact area of san diego zoo to say the least. So much it will only require this post to show off what the area contains since the habitats are rather small and empty. There is of course 8 animal habitats featured, 2 of which are literal cages and were not fun to build for in the slightest.

Starting off with an overview of the urban jungle. The most obvious habitats are the giraffes and the hippos with the 2 large (i really hate saying that) habitats on the left and middle. In the half circle from clockwise - zebra+donkey , flamingo , porcupine, binturong, fennec fox and finally cheetah:
Planet Zoo Screenshot 2023.10.19 - 23.06.40.47.png

The central habitat for hippos is way under size for the game requirements, just 1000m2 with 150m2 of water. It used to hold a single male indian rhino which i say was far more acceptable. While the main hippo habitat is under construction (in real life) the hippos are situated here for now while the rhino has moved to the san diego safari park for breeding there:
Planet Zoo Screenshot 2023.10.19 - 22.57.58.56.png

Another view of the hippo habitat shows how empty feeling these habitats are, i actually placed dry grass around the habitat just so it wasn't a endless stretch of dirt. The tiny pool for hippos and the lack of really any foliage is kinda sad:
Planet Zoo Screenshot 2023.10.19 - 23.00.57.99.png

The next 'large' habitat is the giraffe habitat. It houses 5 giraffes and a few gazelle in another empty feeling habitat. The feeders for the giraffes and gazelles do make it seem a little nicer:
Planet Zoo Screenshot 2023.10.19 - 22.58.57.81.png

Past the giraffe habitat, we reach the first of the small habitats. The first is this zebra and donkey habitat and well its something:
Planet Zoo Screenshot 2023.10.19 - 23.02.21.15.png

The only area with a touch of green in the urban jungle is a flamingo habitat. On its own, its just a simple flamingo habitat seen at plenty of other zoos but when comparing to the flamingo lagoon at the entrance it does seem poor in comparison:
Planet Zoo Screenshot 2023.10.19 - 23.03.19.18.png

Next is the saddest build i have ever done in planet zoo, 2 tiny cages for binturong and fennec fox. There is little to no traverse space for the animals and all they do is turn around in circles and sleep 😢

Planet Zoo Screenshot 2023.10.19 - 23.04.22.43.png

And last we have the cheetah habitat, which doesn't seem too bad in comparison to the other habitats in the area. A decent stretch with a couple trees helps this habitat seem better. Its mainly the obvious rear habitat wall and how close it feels that makes it seem worse:

Asian Passage Overview

With the urban jungle already completed, lets take a look at the next area of the zoo. This will be the first big section of the zoo which is the central area of the zoo, splitting the zoo into 2 distinct portions - the south zoo (lost forest, discovery outpost, explorers basecamp) and the north zoo (outback, urban jungle, africa rocks, elephant odyessy, and northern frontier). So big i cant actually fit it in one single map since its a long area instead of a bunched up collection of animals like the urban jungle, which is good baecuase there are very few awful habitats in this area, not that this area is free of bad habitats.

Map 1:
Untitled design.jpg

Map 2:
Untitled design (1).jpg

As we can see, there are 4 key areas to the asian passage, ranging from new/renovated habitat areas to older habitats which are in dire need of replacement. As we can assume, this is an asian themed area but not all animals are asian. A running trend of san diego is to have multiple habitats of the same animal around the zoo - perhaps this is excess animals to house where there is room.
  1. Bear Canyon
  2. Sun Bear Forest
  3. Panda Plaza
  4. Panda Trek
Bear Canyon:

This is easily the worst area of the asian passage which is basically like the urban jungle. A relic of 20th century zoo design where cageless habitats were attempted but never got around to improving. The rest of the zoo has seen major renovations but there is still a sizeable chunk still needing modern improvements. The animals featured in this area are obviously themed around bears, the area consists of fake rock bear grottos and the return of those awful aviary style cages.

Animls featured are: Sloth bear, ducks, spectacled bear, grizzly bear, francois langur, and aye aye

Example of the grizzly bear habitat, clear sightlines for the guests is a good thing i guess even with the dated look:
AsianPassage79.JPG

Monkey cages are located in between the grizzly and spectacled bear habitats. These days there is only 2 cages holding the francois langur and aye aye. The aye aye, a nocturnal animal is held in a cage outside. Reading reviews, barely anyone ever sees the aye aye, to no suprise. Theres even a sign telling guests where the aye aye might be hiding:
AsianPassage74.jpg

Sun Bear Forest:

Passing the bear canyon, we reach the sun bear forest. This is another bear centered area but only 1 habitat for them, thankfully this is a much larger and (i guess) naturalistic compared to what we have seen for a while now. This continues downhill where the zoo finally flattens out at the end of the forest. A windy trail takes us through the forest passing 3 habitats and a small static aviary for small asian birds.

Animals featured in this area are: Francois langur, Sun bear, and black and white colobus monkey.

View of the sun bear habitat:
20200215_134404.jpg

And a view of the colobus monkey habitat. This is slighly annoying another african animal is featured here, there used to be lion tailed macaques that were far more suited for an asian area. There is still macaques in the lost forest which seems odd to remove them from the asian themed area:
DSC04238.JPG

Panda Plaza

Another one of those areas i dont actually know if it has a proper name but its panda themed after the giant pandas the zoo used to have. The plaza is where the bottom of the zoo is more or less reached with a 2 buildings - a modern gift shop and a cafe.

soltek-pacific-construction-co-panda-shop-base-site-work-san-diego-zoo.jpg

Panda Trek

Known and designed for its giant pandas, this chinese themed area is the best looking area for the asian passage - best for last as they say. Without the iconic giant pandas, this focuses on big cats and smaller animals in chinese highlands especially around the himalayas. We can see big cats overhead on walkways, the only golden takins in north america and a bunch of red pandas. The problem is again here is the issue of small habitats, the giant panda habitats were far too small, foliage was lacking and the big cats dont have that much space to roam.

Animals featured in this area are: Red panda (3 habitats), golden takin, amur leopard and snow leopard

One of the red panda habitats, 2 of the habitats remain unchanged from when the giant pandas were at the zoo:
1968.jpg

Golden takin habitat, pretty much the average dusty hoofstock habitat at the san diego zoo:
P1150341.JPG

And lastly we have the asian leopard area. 4 habitats, with 2 for each leopard connected by an overhead walkway for them. It is a challenge to do this ingame but i have experience in this habitat design:

Asian Passage - Bear Canyon

Lets hope this is the last depressing part of the san diego zoo, at this rate i cant wait to start the next zoo :ROFLMAO:

Welcome to the bear canyon everyone, this is where some real elevation changes as we decend 20 metres down (with a further 8 metres to go to the botom as i worked out). The bear canyon, unoffically named i believe is a row of small outdated bear pits holding a variety of bears and we also have 2 primate cage habitats. As we already know, the animals featured are - sloth bear, grizzly bear, spectactled bear, francois langur and aye-aye. The duck aviary was unable to work out due to the frustrations of water placement on a slope.

To avoid any issues, showcasing the canyon will be formosan black bear, himalayan brown bear, and sun bears with the primate cages empty. Are the bear pits too small and incline too steep? perhaps but i did with what i had to work with. Measuring the exact elevation differences and building the urban jungle first did make it seem the area is steeper and smaller than it actually is. Doesn't matter too much as there is only so much i can do to make outdated bear pits look nice and actually work out for the bears.

Anyways lets start the tour:

Bear canyon from the top, seen from the outback plaza. Our handy sign marker helps guests navigate throughout the zoo:
Planet Zoo Screenshot 2023.10.25 - 21.04.53.21.png

From here we can see the steep incline, it is rather similar to real life as there are many guides to avoid the steep hills of san diego - well heres a pretty good view on how steep those hills are:
Planet Zoo Screenshot 2023.10.25 - 21.04.33.16.png

First bear pit is for sloth bears:

One of the grizzly bear pits:

View inside the aye aye cage, note these are about twice the size of the real cages to give you an idea of the space available:
Planet Zoo Screenshot 2023.10.25 - 21.03.08.79.png

Spectactled bear pit, we can see a large building towering above. Thats the giraffe house in the urban jungle if anyone remembers that:
Planet Zoo Screenshot 2023.10.25 - 21.02.06.09.png

And finally the view from the bottom, doesnt look that steep really when looking up. Its the same angle going all the way up which is weird:
Planet Zoo Screenshot 2023.10.25 - 21.01.40.62.png

There is a video of the bear canyon build, check out my link in my signature to view it. The thumbnail of the video won't impress the mods 😅

Asian Passage - Sun Bear Forest

The next area of the asian passage is the sun bear forest. A much nicer area compared to the bear canyon but still located on the slope down to the bottom of the zoo. The path winds around 3 habitats before reaching the bottom - the 3 animals featured are sun bear, francois langur, and black and white colobus monkeys. As always the nongame animals are featured by a game animal, this time the black and white ruffed lemur.

Above view of the sun bear forest, we can also see the bear canyon to the right and the urban jungle right above us. This canyon is among the steepest in the zoo at 20 metres straight down from the donkey/zebra habitat to the sun bear forest:
Planet Zoo Screenshot 2023.11.03 - 21.50.24.16.png

Sun Bear forest entrance from the bear canyon (heading downhill):
Planet Zoo Screenshot 2023.11.03 - 13.36.55.17.png

View into the sun bear habitat. A waterfall falls into the the semi deep water pool for the bears, while general enrichment is in the form of a cluster of climbing logs and the hammock attached:
Planet Zoo Screenshot 2023.11.03 - 13.37.30.11.png

Sun bear lounging in the hammock, really makes me wish thr hammock could be used for more animals:
Planet Zoo Screenshot 2023.11.03 - 13.41.50.64.png

Next is a very naturalistic habitat for some francois langurs... Im not sure what the goal is with all the glass and metal girder beams, at least its roomy for the langurs though:
Planet Zoo Screenshot 2023.11.03 - 21.49.32.71.png

Continuing downhill we reach a small asian bird aviary:
Planet Zoo Screenshot 2023.11.03 - 13.47.10.99.png

There are 3 viewing areas for the langur habitat, this is the lowest one:
Planet Zoo Screenshot 2023.11.03 - 21.49.16.75.png

The final habitat is a black and white colobus habitat, there used to be lion tailed macaques which would of been much more suitable for an asian area. Weirdly enough this habitat is among the largest of all habitats in the entire asian passage. None of the bears have this kind of room:
Planet Zoo Screenshot 2023.11.03 - 21.48.00.32.png

Upper viewing shelter for the monkey habitat:
Planet Zoo Screenshot 2023.11.03 - 21.47.16.23.png

Lower viewing shelter for the monkey habitat:
Planet Zoo Screenshot 2023.11.03 - 21.45.42.27.png

Videos for this area will release over the weekend ( 4 - 5 november). This will include a part 1 tour of the asian passage where we will explore both the sun bear forest and the bear canyon. It's best to split up the larger zoo areas into multiple tour videos to break up the wait.

Road to Completion 2

Hey everyone, with 4 new areas added to the zoo i feel its time for another road to completion post. I feel we will need quite a few of those as the layout of san diego zoo can get incredibly confusing for some while just looking at habitat pictures but no clear view of the full zoo. Instead of looking at how many episodes to go (number of episodes will highly vary anyways - episode 28 with 29 in the works is the current stage), lets take a look at 3 views - the full zoo map, my work in progress of the zoo map and the zoo in the actual game.

Full zoo map:
iaZEfS.jpg

And lets compare it with what i have done:
Screenshot_20230915_222345_Write on PDF.jpg

So comparing the 2 maps, we can easily see i am almost done the bottom of the zoo and slowly moving throught the central canyon. That central canyon is marked as the center street or more easily known as Asian Passage. Discovery Outpost, wildlife explorers basecamp, australian outback and urban jungle are all 100 percent complete. The route follows now as: Asian Passage - Africa Rocks - Elephant Odyessy - Northern Frontier - Lost Forest. So that huge chunk of land with all the tropical primates and aviaries on the left side of the map is going to be left last.

Heading over to the game, we have a nice view of the size of the zoo so far:
20231107125806_1.jpg

Doesn't look too big honestly, most zoos i have built have easily exceeded that size by many times. The difference is this 25 percent of the map zoo already has 38 habitats and 30,000+ pieces. San diego will not take up the entire map thanks to my increased skills on scaling which correctly portray the true size of the zoo unlike my previous zoos which do overestimate the size of everything.

This road to completion features 3 main areas, clearly marked on the image below. The urban jungle, australian outback and sun bear forest make up the progress so far which also sees the first elevation difference - the panda canyon as its called follows the asian passage to the back at the zoo at 20 metres deep.
Australian Outback.jpg

Speaking of the front of the zoo, most notably is the main street at the front of the zoo called front street. The front street basically covers the width of the zoo giving a good idea how much has been completed in this area. With this update only about 25% of the front street remains covering the africa rocks garden and the main curve into elephant odyessy. I hope i don't run out of room for the curve since the right side of the zoo is approaching the edge of the map fairly quickly.
Australian Outback (1).jpg

Asian Passage - Panda Plaza

After leaving the sun bear forest, we reach the lowest part of the asian passage canyon. Here we will find a large plaza with a cafe, gift shop and restrooms for guests in an asian themed area. Thankfully the black and white colobus monkey habitat is the only part of the asian passage that simply feels out of place. Called the panda plaza by me not knowing the plaza has any name but makes sense with the plaza being themed around the time the zoo had giant pandas, these days there are only red pandas located in the panda trek area. We will see that portion of the asian passage after the plaza.

View of the plaza from the point where the sun bear forest end, here we can see the large cafe building to the right and the smaller gift shop to the left:
Planet Zoo Screenshot 2023.11.09 - 23.46.56.66.png

Another angle of the plaza layout, this time on the side of the gift shop:
Planet Zoo Screenshot 2023.11.09 - 23.47.53.60.png

The hua mei cafe is an asian themed cafe with a typical zoo cafe ordering layout. Inside the building offers a large space for staff room:
Planet Zoo Screenshot 2023.11.09 - 23.45.24.28.png

A closer view of the cafe shows us guests have an option of 5 different food/drink shops:
Planet Zoo Screenshot 2023.11.09 - 23.45.36.81.png

A look at one of the menus for the cafe:
Planet Zoo Screenshot 2023.11.09 - 23.46.16.25.png

At the other side of the cafe, we can find an ice cream shop:
Planet Zoo Screenshot 2023.11.09 - 23.46.34.11.png

The next part of the plaza is the panda gift shop, simply named panda shop. This is modelled after a chinese market where an open layout creates a unique design especially with basic materials of corrugated metal, bamboo and wood:
Planet Zoo Screenshot 2023.11.09 - 23.44.10.39.png

Inside we can find gift stands all around, asian lanterns suspended from the roof and many different ways to enter/exit the gift shop:

I'm not saying this to annoy you, just because I was worrying about the same thing while reading all the post. It's such a great project and it would be a pity if you got into space troubles when you have done so much progress. But I can't help seeing all that room at the left that will never be used, and which is as big (see both squares in my sketch, they are the same size) as the room left on the right for a not-so-small area and I'm doubtful wheter it will fit. According to the map it looks as if that part of Africa rocks (+ a bit of Elephant oddisey ?) is as wide as Urban jungle + Bear canyon. I feel the pain so much of moving the whole zoo to the left so there is clearly enough room in that right part.

I understand the concern, the exact same thought process came to my mind as far back as the koala house. But i have thought of a plan that will hopefully avoid any issues in elephant odyessy where the obvious space limits will impact the most. The concerns with the bus tour road and elephant habitat come to mind as potential big problems.

The plan was to simply move the urban jungle down and curve the front street from that point onwards. The result is: a smaller bear canyon and sun bear forest which the problem in those are already established. Africa rocks will undergo extensive measurements to ensure it all fits - this will likely be the most difficult part of the zoo to make sure it all fits. The elevation, the curve and portion connecting to the front street has to be perfect.

The result of the urban jungle alignment , red is mine, green is the real zoo:

The scenery forests surrounding the africa rocks, elephant odyessy backstage staff area (all those buildings) and any scenery portion of the outskirts of the elephant odyessy will be severly limited to accomodate the guest area of the zoo. I don't like cutting down features of my recreations but sometimes it just has to be done.

About moving the zoo? We all know that answer, it can't happen as the complex nature of the zoo prevents any easy movement of areas. The wildlife explorers basecamp, the area to the very left of the zoo is an area built of 12,000 pieces, a 6 metre terrain difference with complex paths around water and tricky terrain features. There's a reason why that one area took an entire month to build.

Asian Passage - Panda Trek's Red Panda and Takin

The last part of the long and narrow asian passage is the panda trek. Known for its past giant pandas and chinese themed animal area, the panda trek serves as the major animal animal for the bottom of the zoo. In this area, we follow a bamboo forest trail which takes us past red pandas, golden takin, mangshan pit viper, amur leopard and snow leopard. I will have 2 parts to go over for the panda trek - today will look at the red panda, viper and takin portions while the second post will all be about the leopards.

Here's an overview of the panda trek area. We can clearly identify 4 habitats, most of which are red panda habitats:

There are 3 entry points into the panda trek area, the first one below leads to the old giant panda habitats, this large building serves as the main staff hub for the asian passage canyon as we don't often have room in recreations to throw important keeper and vet buildings right next to habitats:

The first habitat we come across is for red panda. The first 2 habitats we see are orginally giant panda habitats which explains why we have a 2 level viewing area to accomodate crowds. No construction really took place to swap out the pandas apart from expanding the climbing structures to what we see currently:

The second red panda habitat is of similar construction:

Continuing along the path we reach the second part of panda trek. First we can see a static exhibit for mangshan pit viper, a large snake that is similar size to the yellow anaconda:

The next habitat is the takin habitat, with some water buffalo currently occupying it. A simple enough dirt habitat with some rockwork to allow our takin/buffalo to get shade from the california sun:

An above view of the takin habitat to show off the size of the habitat. It's average size really, nothing too much to complain about apart from the obvious mesh fence at the back of the habitat:

The last habitat in this part is the actual red panda habitat. A sunken habitat allows us to see red pandas climb between 2 trees. Unlike the previous giant panda habitats, this has always been a dedicated red panda habitat so it is generally nicer:

The more confusing part of the panda trek is the main entrance to the panda trek is in the middle of the complex. I believe this was so the line to the giant pandas was long enough from here winding throughout the takin area to not cause too much congestion on the main asian passage path. Older signs i can find online seems to confirm this as wait time signs were placed after this entrance. Anyway the giant panda theming is still here:

Space Concerns

I took the time to map out the entire africa rocks area as i start to prepare probably the most difficult part of the zoo. I know measuring on the map and seeing how close the border is to the urban jungle, it is concerning if i have enough room to build both africa rocks and elephant odyssey before i hit that dreaded wall. Well let's have a look at the zoo.

Africa rocks and the front street curve works out really well ! The angling of africa rocks allows enough space for elephant odyssey to follow its shape correctly since africa rocks does creep towards the middle of the zoo. I still have doubts about that huge backstage area in EO but that can easily be cut to allow space for the huge elephant habitat and camelid habitats.
