Newcomer / Intro Satellites - Have they been removed? Please help.

I've spent many, many hours trying to find the satellites (usually in orbit around earth-like worlds) that I've read about and watched on numerous videos, but I cannot find any, anywhere.

I just want to know if they have been removed so I can stop wasting my time. I cannot find a definitive answer and certainly no official answer from the developers.

It would be disappointing if they have been removed as it seems like a really nice thing to find for those of us who are exploring...

Thanks

Only some inhabited worlds have satellites. I have not looked lately but I would be surprised if they were missing now.

If you are expecting to find satellites around earth-likes away from the bubble then I think you are going to be disappointed, I have never even heard of one where they have discovered fire never mind orbital flight. ;)

They're gone from Installations for sure. Kinda sad, since I used to scan them for data materials. Now it's Jameson's crash site for that instead.

An example would be good. Only satellites I know of that are gone are the ones at installations as mentioned by Numa, but they don't match what the OP describes at all.

I saw a report relatively recently of someone finding a satellite around an inhabited ELW, but they were always quite rare signal sources.

The installation ones are still there at some installations - just fewer than before.

You can of course scan the installation itself for data materials - you can get up to G5 that way, rather some G1/G2 bits from the satellites, so it's a fair bit more effective.

So they're signal sources - USS? What are they called? I wonder if they went missing in 3.4 the way that T0 NHSS around AW went missing 🤔

yes, they were/are(?) USS that would occasionally spawn if you cruised close to an inhabited ELW's exclusion zone. from memory, they were Encoded's.

I've only looked briefly since 3.3 dropped. Didn't find any. I suspect, since USS are predetermined for the entire system now - rather than RNG spawned near your location - that these no longer exist. Do any types of USS still spawn based on your location? I don't think so. :(

I can confirm seeing satellites at some installations still.

I think there's one at Ehlanda A14, I'll have to double check. It's a gas giant, I've been hunting the hazardous RES there, and there's something labeled satellite nearby.

Yes - this is what I have been doing - cruising around the ELWs (within the bubble) as suggested by previous posts and videos. But you're right, these things all spawn as part of the system, not randomly based on your proximity. This is a better way of spawning things, for sure, but I have circled many planets at varying altitudes for hours and have found nothing.

There are some satellites in high-tech areas but they are basically mega ships. Pretty cool that you can hack data out of them like I was expecting to with the normal satellites, but it's still not quite the same.

Has anyone checked if we can still intercept the Voyager space probes??? (I don't have a permit to Sol just yet)

Thanks for all your replies.
