Scan & Ram

I havn't seen any of this ramming away from the RES or CZs so maybe I'm just a lucky pilot.

I've spent the last two/three weeks doing combat CGs and havn't been rammed once. I'd like to think it's my superior skillz but I have my doubts about that.

You are just lucky. They often choose to ram you from behind so you dont see it coming.

You have tried slowing to zero, yes or taking avoiding actions?

Irrelevant, the OP is correct, it's a newly-introduced bug.

Most of the time they do the normal slow-down and hold at 1000m wile scanning, but occasionally they will (pointlessly) initiate a scan while coming towards you at high speed, and if you don't move, they will usually hit you.

Simply a bug, nothing more.

I just died in a haz RES because npc scan rammed me

can I get my money and bounty vouchers back??? please tell me as this is my first time wanting to ticket this kind of incident.

The fact they are aware of it and working on it is good. That means it is a bug and not something permanent.

For some reson if im flying an python in high res im getting attacked by fdl's unprovoked.. It is the only ship that does this

I like it. It's often pirates who scan me so I put 4 pips to shields, and by the time they've bounced off me they are shieldless and quicker to kill.

This scan and ram is . To all of those that say "oh you should have more situational awareness and not get rammed", shove it. This is broken. It needs to be fixed.

That's weird. I've just done about 100 hours of Robigo runs, during which I didn't get it once, though I had a few crashes with ships that spawned in front of me. The crashes were my fault for boosting into them at full speed. Before that, I spent over a thousand hours RES farming and never noticed it as a problem. As soon as 1.5 was released, I could see the change in behaviour of certain ships (FAS, FGS, FDS and occasionally others), but in a Vulture or FDS, it's easy to sidestep them as they fly towards you. It would be very rare for one to actually hit me, so I just can't see why anybody would want to complain. I see lots of people complaining, but I don't get it. What ship are you flying when it happens to you?

I actually lost a Python in a RES (my only loss in a RES) due to afk'ing while shields were recharging. I came back to watch (Shadowplay) an Anaconda and FAS scan ramming me to death. The ram would hit and they would burn past, and have to turn around and start scanning again, followed by another ram. I mean, it was partially my fault for AFK'ing, but I wasn't exactly expecting multiple NPC ships fly up and ram me to death. I've had them scan ram while in the middle of fighting another ship as well, killing an Anaconda who was dead in the water from loss of power plant, and a Clipper initiates scan and just knocked the crap out of me from behind. It was just a loss some shields, but it's still annoying.

I guess you didn't know that NPC's have AAAA rated sensors and can see you from 1000ls away, and also have turreted rail guns with 100% accuracy. Not to mention the same mechanic they all use that likes to twist the wiring for the scan and boost button together maybe for sheets and giggles. Oh did I mention the cloaking device that they still can fire at you with said rails?

Irritating yes.

I try to use it to my advantage while bounty hunting, if i see a NPC getting closer, i point my nose at him.
If he starts a scan i put full pip to shields and boost into his face. makes the rest easy.

"Scan detected"... *ping* a Viper (or some other small ship) bounces off my shields. Funny bug(gers). FAS/FDS seem to be fond of butting heads with my ship, too - they though don't just bounce off but also take a good portion of my shields along. Not that they bask in glory of such achievement for long though.

While the NPC is scanning you, you KW scan the NPC and line up the PAs. As soon as your scan is finished let loose.
I've not had any problems with pirate ramming since waaaaay back in PB1.

The other alternative is to fly a tanked ship and breeze through them without a care in the world.

What do I know though? I've spent the last 4 hours in a RES in Hel and finally quit out due to boredom and inability to focus on the screen.

Memo to self: Stop drinking and flying/fighting. It'll only end in tears. :D

The OP is right, "Scan & Ram" is a bug! To suggest you can avoid all the time is just plain wrong. I have manoeuvred/accelerated/de-accelerated and too many times they still hit you at full speed! Now ramming in a dogfight is a legitimate technique.........But I am in a FAS fully armour tanked, with shields up and a "CLEAN" Sidey or Eagle slams into me at full speed. Result the NPC has committed Hari Kari and given me a 6000cr bounty! I am sorry but Scan & Ram is bugged........Kamikaze NPC'S is just plain silly!

Yep. Got myself that sort of bounty while in middle of "smack 72-or-so" pirates mission. Made things a wee bit more interesting, have to say - no friendly chats with local trio of cop-condas anymore XD

It often happens if I'm at 0 throttle sitting waiting for my shields to regen. You'll get a pirate with their introductory text, then they slam into the side/front/rear of you. It does happen with police also near stations, but most of the time it is pirates... I always sit with 4 pips to shields, and it is nice to get a random bounty credited as they suicide into your hull from time to time.

Anyone else noticed that FDLs will scan and then attack you in RES zones when you aren't wanted, yet all other ships complain about no cargo and go on their way?

I know we all tend to label the npc stupid over this but its the Devs who caused this back in 1.5 and here we are thinking about 2.1 and they still haven't put out a fix for the problem despite the high number of complaints it causes and more of the Devs time spent restoring commanders saves.
