Scanners - Button press instead of button hold.

It is giving me carpal tunnel syndrome.

Having to hold the button for the scanners is kinda annoying and there is no purpose to it, so why can't it be a button press instead of hold?

Wanna know how I scan?

"Astra, scan the target." or "Check for bounties."
"Yes, Commander."

All I have to do is keep the target in sight. To make up for lost time, I set her button press to 20 seconds in case I lose line of sight. That way when I change the fire group, she opens fire with pulse lasers and I then take the reigns. I make her assist when I'm being lazy by telling her she is weapons free or to open fire. She will then start to open fire with kinetix weapons at set intervals. I reserve that for larger targets.

this would be a very nice quality of life improvement for RES hunting.

I can confirm that scanning pirates for hours on end is not good for your hands.

Why not then make it auto scan so you don't even have to press a button? That would clearly be better gameplay - less interaction.

I have bound the KWS fire button on my game to one of those sticky flip switches on my HOTAS Warthog.

I just flip the thing on and leave it there forever, everything now scans automatically.

Sorry, but I don't know how breaking my wrists until the bar is filled makes the game any more engaging.

Maybe you want to hold down the hyperdrive button until its fully charged too?

Nice, but not an option with m&kb

Or have a slippery slope button where you can take someone's rational suggestion to the absurd to try to show it as folly, passive aggressive of course. That would be cool.

As someone who screwed up both wrists many years back, I can assure you that you should take a break entirely and work on strengthening your wrists. Finding workarounds to keep gaming will just make things worse.

It's the difference between a few weeks and a couple of years.

A Detailed Surface Scanner automatically scans a planet or star that has been targetted. I don't see why a KWS or cargo scanner needs to be any different. Maybe have it a toggle setting, so those who want to get CTS are still able to do so.

Wouldn't the same issue occur (or be bigger) with weapon firing for you too?

I seem to hold down fire button more than I do my scanner.

Or you can just talk Schmack.
or that!

Not really. You don't have to start over if you lose sight of the target with weapons. Also, turrets can be set to fire at target and they will engage as long as the target is anywhere within the aspect of the turret.

The scanner problem is inconsistency. You enter a new (to you) system and your discovery scanner goes to work automatically. Your sensors pick up ships several Ls out in SC. In real world speed mode, you get target data on ships that shoot at you without asking for it. There's no legit reason I've read as to why a KWS needs to be depressed for that long to complete the scan, other than it being part of the "fair chase" aspect of the game where that extra bonus means you have to multi-task.

The scan makes it twice as bad. Normally I kill the enemy before the scan is complete, so I have to fire the scan first and then kill them, so it is twice as bad, also it restarts if I lose LOS which makes it more times as bad. Hence the reason why I don't even use the scanners in this game.

You can also release the fire, but you can't release the scan.

Same with the advanced discovery scanner, is not much of a problem if you are scanning a couple of systems, but then going several thousand light years out there, holding the honk button gets pretty tiresome.

Many functions in this game let you choose between toggle and hold, I woner why stuff like the scanners don't. IMO, if you have the module installed, it should do it automatically, or at least fire it with a button press.

It has been mentioned a few times, set up a macro either through Voice attack or some free software. You could have resolved your problem in the time it took you to write that last post. I cant remember the last time I manually charged the ADS, I simply say 'computer, scan the system'

Have you tried the NSD Powerball? I have given a couple to friends and family who had damaged their hands, and they have helped build up the strength in their hands and wrists;

I'll try one of those. Thanks.

The two reasons I don't VA is that It would look weird to other people if they see me talking to myself, also I'm always terrible for voice recognition. Of the times I've tried, the programs rarely undestand what I say.
