Would you need to press it again if you lose line of sight?
Why not then make it auto scan so you don't even have to press a button? That would clearly be better gameplay - less interaction.
I have bound the KWS fire button on my game to one of those sticky flip switches on my HOTAS Warthog.
I just flip the thing on and leave it there forever, everything now scans automatically.

Or have a slippery slope button where you can take someone's rational suggestion to the absurd to try to show it as folly, passive aggressive of course. That would be cool.
or that!Or you can just talk Schmack.
Wouldn't the same issue occur (or be bigger) with weapon firing for you too?
I seem to hold down fire button more than I do my scanner.

The scan makes it twice as bad. Normally I kill the enemy before the scan is complete, so I have to fire the scan first and then kill them, so it is twice as bad, also it restarts if I lose LOS which makes it more times as bad. Hence the reason why I don't even use the scanners in this game.
You can also release the fire, but you can't release the scan.
Same with the advanced discovery scanner, is not much of a problem if you are scanning a couple of systems, but then going several thousand light years out there, holding the honk button gets pretty tiresome.
As someone who screwed up both wrists many years back, I can assure you that you should take a break entirely and work on strengthening your wrists. Finding workarounds to keep gaming will just make things worse.
It's the difference between a few weeks and a couple of years.
Have you tried the NSD Powerball? I have given a couple to friends and family who had damaged their hands, and they have helped build up the strength in their hands and wrists;

It has been mentioned a few times, set up a macro either through Voice attack or some free software. You could have resolved your problem in the time it took you to write that last post. I cant remember the last time I manually charged the ADS, I simply say 'computer, scan the system'
