Scavenging Dead Titans for Drives and Loot

Being able to extra-safely put FSD on priority 5 thanks to fast boot is pretty universally useful for the spare power, IME. The bonus range is just nice.

But yeah I'd just get TDC only when you definitely need them.
Exactly. I have one on the Cutter I use at CG's (gankers magnet), one on my exobio explorer (that needs to travel 3000Ly to scan untouched blobs), but on any other of my ships it would just be "nice" and not worth the hours needed to eventually find the God damn TDC ;)

I was able to get one several weeks back and I put it on my Cutter

It can now jump 38LY with a full load of 728T

Quite the Optimal Trader :giggle:

Sometimes I wonder if the game doesn't do any chicanery like checking to see how many you have before adjusting drop rates.

I can't imagine that. With my three TDC grind-rounds so far, I have searched with others in the cargo and found more.

My successful searches go like this:

1. Ship with Long Range Sensors, Limpet Controller ( in my case a Corvette or a Krait)
2. Entry at 20 km distance from Titan
3. Straight ahead full speed (without boost) into the centre of the Titan and through to the other side up to 15-20 km away
4. then circling around the Titan at low speed ( =full speed with cargo hatch deployed) at distances of up to 15 km for about 15 minutes
5. I collect materials and cargo along the way, mostly meta-alloys and samples

- I have usually already found a TDC by then -

7. if not, I fly out to 25 km away, turn around and repeat everything.
8. I boost very little so as not to miss anything

If I want another one directly afterwards, low wake out, turn and repeat.

(Low-waking out seems not necessary, as in one case I found two while circling).

I pretty much do the same. I go around ramming anything that's not a TDC. The theory is the more stuff I cull the faster it's replaced and the more likely it'll be replaced by a TDC. I already have 30, don't need anymore. I went around again recently to kill condas and collect the mats but I figured I might as well get any I see. But this time round, no bueno except for one. Only difference is I have more than when I started looking.

30? Dang. I couldn't find a single one after some three hours of cruising around the debris field with an A-rated sensor, engineered for long range. I suppose more culling it is...

I'm not supposing anything

1 hour

No joy

The drought continues...
Ditched Sol and went to a random different Titan Cloud a bit further out and was lucky on first pass around the cloud. Then nothing for the next half an hour, wake out, back in, nothing for another half hour. Generally liked it better there because instead of pirates (Sol) there were goids (Pegasi Sector) who left me alone instead of trying to steal my stuff.

Then got the one pre-engineered drive I could have made and noticed most of the ships I wanted to upgrade already have this drive equipped anyway and I have no idea why. Maybe I was sleepwalking or something xD

Did you forget getting one of each size as a reward for bombing Cocijo ?
I only ask because I can't remember which of my ships I put some of those drives on myself.

Did something change with limpets recently? I was getting some strange behaviors today I haven't seen before.

Circular pattern and not really going out and collecting stuff unless I targeted something specific.

I dare not think of what that might mean for mining...

Yeah, they don't idle in a static position anymore and buzz around the ship instead - it's pretty neat. They still collect things normally for me, even better than usually (doing way less of a half-hoop around the ship when coming back)

They should only "not go out" if you are full on that mat already or its set it on the ignore list - they work fine for me :)

Yeah, a few behavioral tweaks came in Trailblazers a few weeks ago.

The main difference (other than circling when idle) seems to be that using limpets to cheese brain-tree materials is much more difficult now

Make sure you're not confusing it for the v1 normal FSD? I've had to do that double take more than few times since getting the v1 SCOs....

The circular dance came new with Trailblazers. And they still do go out and collect stuff on their own, I had no issues with it just last night.
