Scavenging Dead Titans for Drives and Loot

Key words "they each give out more than they did before". You scan the 9 nodes and your inventory of the g5 data it gives will (typically, there's some RNG variance still  ) will be full. So no relogging necessary, you just go, scan, fly back to trader, repeat.
Hmm. It was taking me three or four laps with the SRV. I must have been unlucky.

But - to get back on topic

Is anyone finding Titan Drive Components anywhere?

I've spent hours at 2 sites but have only one TDC to show for it that I got about 3 weeks ago

Per the page prior, yes, it's just terrible RNG taking effect, I went 2 hours+ without seeing one to finding a couple after 15-30 minutes apiece. I put forward a theory about methodology but I don't give it any more credit than anyone else's theories, none of us will really know so long as it stays RNG 🤷‍♂️

I found 4 at the Titan wreckage (titan Cocijo) in Sol in about 3-4h last week. They spawn seldom, but one can pass time colleting "titan wreckage materials/thargoid materials" and other cargo while there waiting for the titan drive components to spawn. Bring one or more Corrosion Resistant Cargo Racks for the titan drives and other loot (besides the materials). And I did this in Solo play mode, haven't checked but if I would be into ganking other players I would try there, one seldomly gets attacked by npc but it can happen. There are you-tube videos on the subject, search "Titan Cocijo".

I came to two conclusions:

- I should look for TDCs only when I have nothing else to do and I CANNOT do anything else (like, when I blow up a clean NPC by mistake, and have now to wait 2 hours for the 1 point of notoriety to go away)

- The 10% range increase compared to a G5 engineered FSD IR+MM, and the fast boot would anyway not make any real difference or be useful on most of my ships.

I kind of enjoy cruising the wreckage whenever I need another FSD. I fly the cold ship that destroyed the Titan, and use that stealth in a game of trying to never even be scanned by any of the pirates. There are high-grade mats with no known use ...yet, to optimistically collect. The scenery is amazing. The wreckage changes over time so I investigate for any new details that might have evaded notice or discussion, look for any surface or subsurface nodes, experiment with how the cavities of the Titan wreckage seem to still block line of sight for pirates similar to how they did for thargoids back when the Titan was active. Attempt to get some nice selfies (just like the Galnet article accused us of)

It's very chill, so I can also split my attention if there is a conversation in the room or a friend group on zoom

Oh my...sounds like space madness is setting in..!
Very soon you will hear that the Titan corpse is emitting some strange new sound, and seems to be regenerating ;-)

Agreed the pre-engineered FDS isn’t a game changer/must have. I’m a new player – stumbled upon these titan drive components in some forum article and thought I give it a try. The experience (atmosphere/scenery) was more amazing then getting those drive components ;). Will most likely get enough to build one FSD for each size since I started out playing when the thargoid war was in it’s last month so I missed out on the event which awarded the pre-engineered FSD.

Begun playing by exploring and exo-biology to make my first credits, then I got into unlocking engineers, which kinda forces you to get to know many different aspects of the game lol. Unlocked all engineers but 1 in the bubble (sides the ones for the suits/personal equipment). Currently preparing to head out to Colonia to unlock the engineers there. Since everything is new for me, unlocking engineers doesn’t feel like a grind to me (I’ve often read about others complaining about the engineer grind). Having a blast and although I don't "really" know what I'm doing doing yet I'm gradually learning while having fun!

It's 10% more range plus Supercruise Overdrive, though. Every ship benefits from one or the other (or both). The drive component grind is harsh, though. You have to be in a mood to fly casually for a long time for sure. And the datamined wake exceptions are almost as rough as they used to be (indirectly improved by speedier access to other G5 encoded mats).

I colonized a system close to Oya specifically to put a large landing pad within my old Titan Bomber's jump range (it's now my titan graveyard miner) so I have a place to camp out and resupply while grinding drive components without moving my carrier every time. One massive grind to facilitate a moderate one. This is Elite Dangerous.

You know that SCO drive can be purchased, right? Then you can engineer for Increased Range + Mass Manager.
If I'm going to spend those precious Datamined Wake Exceptions on increasing FSD range, I'll darn well get me a Titan Drive Component to throw in as well and go for broke :D

(I think it's only 5 wake exceptions for engineering, vs 15 for Titan drives, but shhh!)

Being able to extra-safely put FSD on priority 5 thanks to fast boot is pretty universally useful for the spare power, IME. The bonus range is just nice.

But yeah I'd just get TDC only when you definitely need them.

I misunderstood. I thought you were comparing to the legacy G5 double-engineered drive with IR+Fast Boot + Mass Manager. For which I spent many hours grinding materials, which I replaced with SCO drives last year, which I engineered by grinding many materials, which I am now replacing again, at the cost of hours grinding materials...

But no, a 10% gain in jump range isn't a priority for most ships. I want the drives on everything, but I have only equipped the ships that needed it the most and will chip away at the rest over time.

Indeed there is - I have no idea where that Titan is.

Edit: google says it's in Hyades Sector FB-N b7-6

I'll give it a try
In the galaxy map settings, there's a toggle to display all of the titan sites (next time you're curious where to find one) left over from the war. As far as I can tell, they all drop the same mats with the same degree of randomness.
