And of course the only reason to bother watching it was Erin Gray in those Spandex outfits!

As for Farscape and puppets, tbh it was better than the dodgy cgi of aliens. It meant they could use their imagination and bring us some rather bizarre alien species. The fire spitting toad guys were great.

I liked the way Farscape let the Henson company dust off the Skeksis and reuse them as the Halosians. They'd been feeling neglected since the gelflings took over...

Recently (because of the crazy shifts I work :rolleyes: ) I got into listening to The 7th Dimension on Radio 4 Extra on the DAB Radio (also on Freeview). Some great classic sci-fi & fantasy audio books feature. Have a look here for details. :)

I have the tupperware episode of Eerie Indiana on my hard drive, for years it was unavailable on DVD but you can get it on Amazon now.

My pet hate about sci fi films and tv is when they get the concept of distance wrong and say they have arrived from another galaxy instead of saying star system.
Babalon 5 did the best portrayal of Newtonian physics in general. I knows its Sci-fi but lot of writers seem to take the lazy option when it comes to dealing with ships gravity. Larry Nivern usually cheated but his Footfall book covered Spin and 1g acceleration within a large generation ship quite well.

So many great shows, so little time. I particularly love B5 and am thoroughly enjoying reruns of SG1 at the moment, can any other character match Col O'Neill for deadpan wisecracking, I doubt it. But here's a thing, on the same freeview channel they have just started showing SGU, should I watch it, knowing in advance that it will end forever after a series two cliffhanger. So many, (ie nearly all recently), sci fi shows get axed prematurely that I don't even want to bother starting to watch them.

Just to avoid going off on one about other TV guff that goes on and on forever while sci fi fans get kicked around and off the schedules, I'll try to steer this in another direction. Sci Fi (any medium), that makes you go . . .huh?

I liked SGU and could not believe they axed it.

It is possible to revive the series, but not with the old cast, I mean, how do explain them aging while in stasis?

So I'd have a new group come onto the ship, I mean, there is a gate on the ship, so who says a new group can't get on it? They find the stasis pods, and ... oh dear, there was a loss in power and all those people are dead, what a shame. Then the new group have to learn about the ship, and the audience has that "we know things you don't know yet" thing going on. I think it could work.

(this is my 777th post ... should be a lucky one!)

SGU's main problem was that the conflicts between the characters mostly felt forced and rang untrue. And the communication stones watered down the entire idea of them being far from home and disconnected from everything.

How about novels? I just began reading Simmons' Hyperion and I'm utterly loving it. I know I should have picked it up years ago, but for some reason I never did until now.

It is well worth watching MacArthur. Season 1 was a little slow as it set things up but the last couple of episodes began the process of making it very interesting. Season 2 started off very well and then settled into a a lull until the middle of the season, then it had some of the best episodes of any SG franchise.

It was a shame they had to cancel it as it had promise but once again we can blame syfy for changing the night it was broadcast, thus dooming it to ratings hell and giving syfy a reason to can it.

Firefly was the best new style space show, i loved SGU too, but it got samey REAL quick and I thought it was a good move to end it early than drag it out to a point where it was poop. Maybe Firefly is the same, maybe it was the best way to give it cult status by not getting into a point where it was dull.

I can say I saw far more worth from Firefly...

Dr Who last night!!!! POOP... it was basically the Torchwood big creature ending with a failed attempt for emotional responses from the veiwers as the people all sang to defeat the baddy... The Song of the OOD was OOD? is it OOD? anyway that OOD episode was SOO much more emotive.. SO far new series 2 MEH episodes.. COME ON!!! HURRY UP AND GET GOOD

Heh, I disagree about SGU being too samey. The end of Season 2 actually picked up the pace and had episodes that were far far better than any of the previous SG shows. What I did dislike was the Chloe character. Maybe it was just the actress but I really couldn't connect to the character at all and at times was hoping for a quick demise for her.

Anyhooo...

New Sci Fi show being made by David Hewlett (Rodney McKay from SGA) using the set of Destiny.

Don't be fooled by the title, as he says further down that he saved the set but is making his own Sci Fi show.

I liked SGU, I loved the ending.... I loved the blocked from refuelling each jump.. I genuinely enjoyed it... but I didn't see anywhere for it to go... and it was very much becoming quantum leap in space ship.. which actually I like.

Just Im thinking another season could kill the good feelings I have for it.. like Supernatural is currently doing... DRAAAGGGING IT out... Still love it.

All us expats out here swap books and dvds at our local watering hole and I found an American sci-fi ish drama called John Doe staring Dominic Purcell from prison break.
Was really good but when i checked it out suprise surprise it was cancelled by the network before the end of its first season.
