Im really sorry to hear that......Season one was some of the best Dr Who I have ever seen and for anyone judging Matt Smith if they have only seen the episodes since really need to watch the first season...

It just went downhill after that and hasn't really recovered unfortunately :(
But for me it wasn't Matt Smith that was the problem...They just seemed to tone him down...tidy up the Tardis...Dress him like a 16th century Doctor...Basicly taking away his unique character in the process...

Not good news for me :(

when Christopher Eccleston left after season 1, I thought how can you replace that, then David Tennant done a great job, though Matt smith has brought his own personality to the series I feel that a more mature doctor is needed, young doctors where OK but having an older doctor gives more, I cant say what more it brings but I just feel a older doctor is needed.
go back to basics again that's what I say.

David Tennant was brilliant !!
Wasn't to keen on Christopher Eccleston it just didn't work for me...He wasn't bad.....I just didn't click with him

Actually I always thought Richard Hammond would make a cool replacement for David Tennant :)

I really like Matt Smith's Doctor too, he reminds me of some of the more whimsical elements of the Bakers and gives off the impression that the world's his playground (like a guy going through a mid-life crisis, which fits perfectly).

But having said that I do think the next Doctor should take a step away from that, keep the playfulness but take things a bit more seriously, and I'm not joking when I say I think Stephen Mangan would do a good job in that.

He'd probably do a good job of it. He was good in Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency, though I've not yet seen him in any role that required anything other than the lighter sides of comedy or whimsy so I can't say for certain whether I approve :p

Simon Pegg isn't totally impossible, as Colin Baker proved that playing a bit-part in one episode of Doctor Who doesn't stop you from playing the main role later. If I recall correctly, he was a Gallifreyan security chief that shot Peter Davidson's Doctor.

yeah no reason why not,

many bit part actors have ended up playing major parts in torchwood and dr who.

would the doctor who franchise benefit from having a female doctor or a black doctor?

Cumberbatch is more likely than Pegg, as a recent film I've seen ended Cumberbatch's involvement in a major franchise while Pegg is set to be carrying on for some time :p

I think Benedict Cumberbatch is old enough to play the doctor, but would it be the correct career path for him.

Have to agree with that sentiment.

I'd like to know whatever happened to the female Dr Clone. I think that would be a nice palette cleanser after the Matt Smith years.

Wow Matt Smith has decided to quit

I think you're more likely to see Stephen Mangan than Benedict Cumberbatch, because his schedule is so full (movies, another series of Sherlock, more movies ...) But I think the next Doctor will be John Hurt. Why? a) He's already been introduced as the Doctor b) It's the Doctor's last regeneration.

It's a shame, because I would have like to have seen Alan Rickman as the Doctor.

I have to confess ive not seen Dr Who since the eighties, just went off it(its probably been good but just in no hurry to watch) but if its true that John Hurt might play the Doctor i think i would take a peek, mind saying that like Alan Rickman to!

Last doctor....hmmm well they need someone who will be grateful for the work and not have any chance of work elsewhere to make him quit thus ending the whole show..... Is Sylvester McCoy still alive?

b) It's the Doctor's last regeneration.

It's not the Doctor's last regeneration.

Time Lords can regenerate twelve times, for a total of thirteen incarnations. He's currently regenerated ten times, so eleven incarnations.

Also, you make it sound like they'll just drop the show after encountering a plot point like this, instead of using some handwavium to give him more regenerations like they've done about five times to the Master.

Not that i watch Dr Who, but on BBC news this morning they mentioned that one of the newer Doctors was asked that same question in one episode, and he said they can regenerate 500 or so times now.......sounds like the Thargoid Bar anything goes! :p
