General / Off-Topic Sci-fi anything

Sorry to say this, but I never liked Quantum Leap - I prefer to call it "Quantum Sleep". ;)

I'm going to go into the corner and cry now.

Must admit the same. I watched the Quantum Leap for a while, but I was never hooked and I don't think I even finished the first season...

Oh Boy!

I loved Quantum leap but Bakula making anything watchable?! I give you Star Trek enterprise, horrific music and terrible show

DON'T JUDGE ME!! I CAN'T HELP IT.. though I confess Star Trek what??
never heard of that... I think I stopped with Star trek series after Deep FAKE 9..

And Star Trek Voyeur was just not as good as I thought it would be...

Want to see the fastest ever lynching on a forum:

Deep breath:

I think. The first couple of seasons of Voyager were the closest any the new treks ever produced to the original ST. The stand-alone stories are awesome.

*Falls Over*,
I thought the first three episodes where the same story..

oooh a time space anomaly, lets investigate... oh look we caused it.

*YAAAAAWNNN*..

But i can think of 7 out of 9 reasons to watch it

I really enjoyed Voyager too, it was pure fun, not too po-faced and had some neat ideas, even with Janeway's helium voice. ;)

Haha! What other reason do you need? :D

For me, the "Next Gen" is best still in terms of Sci-Fi, but yeah, Voyager was more focused on adventure like the original ST.

As a side note, the reason why I'm not keen on Quantum Leap was that it didn't feel like much of a Sci-Fi show apart from the hologram-guy and leaping at the beginning and end. For me, it felt more of a soapy kitchen-sink drama instead. I've watched quite a few episodes every now and then, just to make sure, but it just never clicked for me. Just my opinion though, as I can still see it's a quality show.

Another show I used to quite like from the mid-90's was Sliders, anyone remember that?

Yep i really enjoyed for awhile, sliding through different Earth's in Parallel universes!
if i remember rightly, one of the first episodes there were only subtle changes, like a red traffic light meant go, and green to stop! was very good for awhile.

I think i watch two or three seasons before i found it getting a bit all the same.

Next generation and B5 probably my favs, i just bought the Martian chronicles(Rock Hudson) its dated, but good for a Sunday afternoon(better then EastEnders anyway!)

edit. forgot about Blakes7 loved that one to.....Damn the Terran Federation! actually they are quite simuler to my beloved Empire!

If I were to mention my favourite sci-fi series, I'd have to say Firefly and Battlestar Galactica (the new version). Also B5 was good, although the seasons were very unbalanced in their quality.

Yeah, I think that's when I stopped watching too, they did get rather samey. John Rhys Davies played the professor, who went on to play Gimli in the Lord of the Rings films.

There's one episode in particular that I'd love to see again. It was set in this parallel world where everyone was an intellectual, and games like basketball involved complex mathematics. The bit I liked best was this spoof on gangsta-rap where the rappers rapped about Keats and Wordsworth. Quite amusing if I recall.

Never seen Martian Chronicles, will have to check that one out...

Ashamed to say I've still not seen the new Battlestar Galactica yet. Definitely need to see it...

Yeah i think John Rhys is a good actor, enjoyed him in Shogun which i thought was good.

Sliders....Sort of rings a bell, but my memories sort of comes and goes, so!

MC...1980s made, again a bit dated and not for everyone(can be slow!) i liked it, but if you can, watch an episode before buying!

BG...You must, so good!!!!!! :D

I watched a few episodes only because of Rhys-Davies, but the series did not hold my attention for long. The mystery of the week formula bored me by that time and I was ready for series that had continuous plots.

It is a great series. Very character-oriented and plays science vs. religion cards rather well.

Sounds like my kind of series. Might get the boxed-set sometime, as it's had pretty much universal praise. :)

I think continuous plots provide a lot more depth; you get to know the characters better and it allows for the stories to be more intricate.

I love the take on Ocupation and terrorism that BSG gives... it was a really smart, sexy and clever series...

Just a little bit weak at the end, and a little rushed... Last series as much as I loved it... just a little poor..

ALSO have you seen the new mini featurette for BSG???

It is ok... has the right Atmosphere... just not enough ACTION!

Precisely. Even though Star Trek: TNG was a great series in its time, it turned me off the "planet of the week" formula. It got annoying when forgot the ways they had solved the same problems in previous episodes. Especially one episode where a lady doctor was stranded on a planet and aged quickly and was then saved by using her DNA strand and the transporter thingy to bring her back to the ship AND restore her to her original age was pretty ludicrous. They basically had eternal life in a magic box, but no one seemed to realise it.

Still, it was one of the few series that has ever brought tears to my eyes during the final episode. The only other sci-fi series that managed the same was B5.
