Scrap or redesign shield cell modules, they are too overpowered and trivialize PvP.

I think we're more likely to see something done if we're not calling for a complete redesign. There has to be a compromise.

Well as far as we heard, something is in the works.
My guess is a tweak to the stats soon, and a rework later down the line.

The NPCs are on the same Elite rating scale as we are, and the game ia not, nor can it be PvP focused (for lots of reasons). The galaxy needs to feel alive and challenging, even when you never meet another human player, and that feeling has been badly damaged by the nerfed NPCs :( :( :(

+1
We need to feel some challenge from NPCs again for the galaxy to remain immersive.

Not sure if this has been mentioned but I feel that SCB should simply be an extra capacitor that can get charged by your power plant. For example, once my main SYS capacitor is full, then my SCB will begin to fill. Once I use the SCB, it will once again need to be charged by my power plant. However, this charging of the SCB will not occur until the main SYS capacitor is full, and the shields are full strength. So basically SCB will recharge once the power is available to recharge it. This also eliminates "ammo" being required for it.

+1 on this. It's almost identical to what I proposed some pages back. The only difference being that I suggested we increase the charge time to double or triple the regular shield capacitor.

Proposal WHY we dont create some Arena with the same ship on each side for our PVP Friends at least the go playing instead of wining in here!

There are people under 18 here. I am afraid that alcoholic beverages can not be served at this location. :D

We could create a forum arena where people go to whine about people whining, while whining at each other and wining at the same time.

I think this is what many of us feel about the situation PRIOR to the introduction of cells.

Indeed.

- smart, dangerous AI ships, some with truly deadly aim
- no NPC flying without shields to be (multi)cannon-fodder
- no healing potions

***

It worked brilliantly. It wan't broken. Afterwards we got the fixes of:

- Python, the classic armed freighter of the series added as a bizarre lvl 50 übership
- Shield cells, which completely broke energy managemet and the feeling of danger in combat

Well I wouldn't go that far about the Python being an übership, I think it's mostly just tied to how Shield cells scale with the large ships.
If we just give Shield cells the place they deserve (I really struggle to find the right verb here. I don't think saying ''nerf'' would be right and ''correct'' makes it sound like we are removing a tumour from the Shield cells), I think any problems related to the Python will disappear

No, actually. Some of us are bounty hunters wanting to be able to actually claim those multi million credit bounties on some of the top pirates instead of just futilely flailing our arms at them for 15 minutes only for them, at the end, to run out of shield cells and jump away. Regardless of how totally you dominate someone in combat they can draw out the battle to a ridiculous length and then at the last minute just turn tail and jump off while laughing and throwing insults at you.

It would be easier for me to tolerate this mechanic if it actually answered some existing need or solved a problem that needed solving. Instead, it only creates problems and makes the game less fun as a result.

Another great summary, from a pilot who knows how things were, and what has currently been lost :(

Personally, either remove them entirely or make them 1 per ship. Whoever thought they should be a multi install item was crazy or drunk or both. You can only have 1 of other items, so the mechanic is already there, just activate that flag on the shield cells and be done with it.

Bear in mind that by inherent, I mean intrinsic, not something that's tacked on (extrinsic) like shield cells.

As a compromise, I would call for buffing the shield strengths of larger ships, and making shield cells single use.

Even more importantly, buff the hull strength, and remove the reactor and drive kills. The shield cells are an over the top band aid. Large ships handle like fighters, and do not have the durability to match their tonnage.

Probably because FD designed the game with the full understanding and intent that the PvP players would hunt down the PvE players and add content to their game.

Why do people seem to overlook how easy it would be for FD to prevent all of the "unwanted PvP activity" but instead continue to add features to encourage and add depth to it?

I'm not completely sure how the armor system works, but I think a significant increase in armor rating could be in order.
AFAIK this will result in things like Multi-Cannons, Dumbfires and Seekers being a lot less useful, forcing people to pack Things like Railguns, Cannons or (to a lesser degree) Laser weapons in order to fare well against large ships.

Absolutely. Lasers dump energy on the surface of a target, and small caliber multicannons can't have all that much penertation (you can't take out a tank with a machine gun). For some strange reason the reactor hitbox is on the surface of the ship. It should require large caliber cannons and railguns to damage the reactor, or alternatively stripping away the armour plates that cover that area (but for that we need much more complicated damage modelling).

Lasers and multicannons can dice up a small fighter, no problem, but they should not be blowing up large ships reactors.

This is a bit off topic, but some texts from FD in the design document makes it sound like they have a full-scale penetration, damage and ballistics model. For example, if a projectile would penetrate the armor, it would travel on a trajectory through the ship, damaging anything it passes. How much of this is in game? I've seen multicannon shots ricochet off when hitting low angles, but I'm not sure if that is just an effect.

Is the armor values different on different parts of the ship? Does upgrading bulkheads increase armor?
Would things like internal ricochets, penetration followed by shot detonation, or modules absorbing projectiles and stopping them be a part of the simulation? I don't know...

So your complaint is that fitting a tank makes it take longer to kill you? You do understand the purpose of fitting a tank don't you?

Obviously they are working as intended and the goal here should be adapting to the situation not crying for a nerf.

To me fitting a tank means Military Grade composite and top class A-rated shield.

But with shield cells you'll get away with fitting a D-shield and standard alloys. That's not a tank.
