There's a wait period, but the travel is still seamless in Elite, and waiting for server stuff is some thing that is going to be difficult to be without, yes I know star citizen just showed a video, but given that planets and such zones will have their own local area server which then needs to be synced with when you get there/leave, they will also end up with loading somewhere along the line, a tech demo != gameplay.Would it be too much to ask for a seamless transition going from planet flight to orbital and vice versa?
I dont like the waiting for frameshift to charge interrupt and pointing upwards everytime I want to explore the planet surface.
Sure. How long would you like it to take at normal flight speeds?
Hello, Sorry, I dont understand what you mean really. Do you mean how long the exploration in normal speed is or how long the transition time is?
I meant, a progressive speed increase with increased altitude without the frame shift interrupt. And then when we go in Super cruise further out we could have a instance with frame shiftmuch better.

I think the problem with that is, in current game lore. Our ships have a fixed maximum speed in normal space. This is not based on Newtonian physics, but rather is enforced to make the flight model fun and easy to control.
To go faster than each ships max speed (in boost) you HAVE to frame shift i.e. leave normal space. This then allows you to go faster, based on how little gravity there is around you, so you slow down at planets and stars, but can rip it in deep space.
Horizons is consistent with this.
So... if you can indeed explore the entire planet seamlessly, but it would take an age, as your ship can only fly at a relatively slow speed. To do it quickly, you frame-shift... Themz are the rules.
And besides, SOME point is required for server synch, so jump to Frameshift is as good as any.
You only need 40 degrees pitch up to reenter orbital cruise and fly around the planet, the escape vector is simply showing the optimal path to escape the planet's gravity (90 degrees pitch)
If you want completely seamless, fly to and from the surface in normal space![]()

Oh, I thought that I had to point at the blue alignment marker
Also once in back in Orbital cruise, keep pitch within +5 or -5 (Once you are above the dropout height) that zone allows a much higher cruise speed when circling the planet.
Edit - Dropout height is 25km above the surface (marked DRP on the HUD)
I get what the OP means and I agree... it takes a looong time to get going to get away from a planet once back in supercruise.
