No rep here. Neither the zeal of those religiously demanding larger scoops neither posts ridiculing them help the least bit.
...asking FD for a better ship results in the same imbalanced ship design only on a larger scale. Proving that FD truly thinks that bigger is better.
I think it's pretty funny actually.
No, no, it has to be a class 20 FSD, and a class 21 scoop. Scoop class has to be at least as large as the FSD class!
edit: I thought it was funny, too. I would totally pimp around in a stretch limo version of the diamondback!
I believe both ships were in production before anyone asked, and both are priced below the asp. In what scenerio did you think it would be appropriate for either of them to outclass the asp explorer in their shared role? It does an acceptably close job for less money, but it won't be setting long-haul speed records....asking FD for a better ship results in the same imbalanced ship design only on a larger scale. As for the size matter, there is a certain size requirement to a totally autonomous system like these star ships. Even ocean vesseles need to be quite large to support extended loitering at sea, and they get to take their oxygen and gamma ray shielding for granted. Because of game mechanics the hauler and adder can be acceptable explorers, but that doesn't mean that they would be ideal, or even particularly acceptable platforms in the real world because it's like taking a single white van across antartica. The fact is that when it comes to exploring, bigger often is better.
Yeah, I don't think that boost speed is the only requirement for being more survivable. The T-6 has terrible hard point placement if you need to defend yourself. It remains to be seen if the DBE can do anything well. If it has a role that can't be filled by a cheaper or similar priced ship, then it definitely deserves to exist. For peaceful exploration a T-6 is a much better option, at half the price, and much more survivable in the bubble with it's top notch boost speed.
Let me count the ways: higher jump distance, better armed, better hard point placement, better armor (not a big deal right now as modules can be sniped), and bigger fuel tank. You assume that running is always a viable option. I tend to look at it as if running isn't an option and I am mass locked, I must at least attempt to fight. If and when Thargoids come out, then the DBE will likely be a very useful ship for the price. It will be basically be a more heavily armed Cobra with the same stripped down exploring speed, which frankly isn't terrible, but why would anyone pay 2M for a ship when a Cobra can do it far cheaper and always live to turn in their data?

Nice personal attack. No, what I was saying is that boost speed is only part of the equation when assessing what to buy for your explorer ship. You conveniently leave out other parts.Did you read my post before responding? If you just want to argue against points I am not even making, then you're not really talking to me, you're just arguing with yourself. In which case, congratulations, you win! If you sincerely have ADD then I apologize profusely for my previous 3 sentences.
I take it you haven't logged into the server for 1.3 yet today. Weapons don't just have to be used against Thargoids. I wish my Asp (I'm going to Wolf 406 Right now) had weapons so I could have dispatched the annoying DBS that I got interdicted by just now. That thing is fast and very annoying.A T-6 with guns, lol. Were are you getting this stuff? Clearly the DBE is the best budget rate Anti-Thargoid ship. But as of yet, no Thargoids in the black. Just different colored balls. None of which require a class 3 pulse laser to tame.

Actually I didn't leave anything out. My whole argument was centered around aggressive power play AI (ie non-Thargoid) threats. I have been saying this same thing for days on the forums: The DBE's only option for defense when inside the bubble is to fight. How well it can do this isn't important because in an explorer ship that is generally a VERY bad idea to pick a fight. The only exception would be aggressive Thargoids.
Is it clear now?
