Seems about time for an update?

I don't expect any announcements about 2020 content to come anytime soon, but I'm interested in seeing details about the upcoming additions for new players, which are supposed to be first quarter IIRC.

It's already April, so I guess sometime this month would make sense. Anyone care to bet a like?

They will need to ensure the new forum is fully salt resistant before they can release anything.

I thought part of the point of the new forums was to give us more features? Some people might like to throw pepper, or even tumeric instead of salt. We might even marinate the features we haven't seen yet before slow roasting them over a pit fuelled with frustrated anger and impotence made manifest by our quick, harsh, and varied criticisms.

Or they can just say what they wanna say and ignore the flames as usual...:p

Maintenance update maybe?

Quite a lot seems to go into the game un-announced (bug fixes & AI tweaks). I think if more of that was recorded in the news section (as intermediate patch notes) it would be helpful.

When even the work that is done is added silently it gives me the impression of trying to cover up mistakes (which bugs are of course) rather than the communications proudly acknowledging the regular trickle of improvements to the game.

I think there is a middle ground between stony silence and shouting from the rooftops.

Now you should know by now, that's not how Frontier work.

They have to hype things up at the office until it's ready to burst, then just to be sure add another 50% of hype, before releasing it to us in a 'spectacular' announcement. This is usually an 'unbeleivable Jeff' (as Chris Kamara says on Sky Sports) type of announcement.........but to me it's just meh!

I prefer to squirt vinegar.

Strangely enough updates come when they're ready and not when someone on a forum arbitrarily decides it is time for one.

Strangely enough, thousands of players have paused* playing Elite during the last couple of months. Elite hasn't got the luxury to do nothing and take their time because there are now quite a bit of areas that are in urgent need of polishing like powerplay or credit payout balancing.
Strangely enough, players favor optimized and balanced games over a screenshot generator.

*Paused for an indefinite amount of time or, said in other words, until the next update arrives. And if this update doesn't statisfy some players, these will keep putting Elite on pause.
It's really just about polishing and optimizations and not about new content that needs polishing as well.

Update? What is this?

We are very excited but no ready to announce anything 🤮

I don't expect anything. The lack of communication of FD is really sad.

Paige said there will be new-style CGs kicking of in April, and (from the length of time since the last 3.3.x patch) we can assume that there may well be a 3.4.0 coming out to add that functionality.

QA have gone missing for the last couple of weeks, so they're either testing 3.4 or the new Bug reporting system (or both).

I'm hopeful for an update shipping either this Thursday or next Thursday (probably not later, as then you start to get very close to Easter).

But what tends to happen is the fdev wait for me to make a prediction*, then ship on a different date - so in conclusion 🤷‍♀️

* well, that's what it feels like ;)

I prefer to throw hand-grenades.

Simple fact is that it's already been 4 months since 3.3 went live and there isn't even a sniff of the "minor" updates that FDev promised.
If they can't even manage to maintain a schedule for minor updates, it doesn't bode well for the delivery of a major one.

I always said that Beyond had the whiff about it of a kid who ignored their homework all through the summer holiday and then rushed it at the last possible moment.
The only incentive they had was that they needed to deliver something each quarter, which meant they had to maintain some amount of progress.
Now we have nothing significant to expect for the best part of two years, I dread to think how little is going to get done over the next 12 months or how shoddy and rushed anything that's created after that is going to be.

While I agree with the above, I think that the most important question is: will what is coming be good enough to make sure that all the people that are/will be leaving the game between now and the next 15 months will come back (and buy it)?. This is what I'd be most concerned about, if I was at Frontier HQ.

I know I'm not playing anymore, and I know that something quite substantial and impressive will be necessary to convince me to reinvest time in it. And many are in my position.
