Seems about time for an update?

<...>
Simple fact is that it's already been 4 months since 3.3 went live and there isn't even a sniff of the "minor" updates that FDev promised.
If they can't even manage to maintain a schedule for minor updates, it doesn't bode well for the delivery of a major one.

You know, the CM told us in his notable post from March 1st that smaller updates will be coming every 3-4 months. Yet he did not say, when the time period to count 3-4 months will start. This is something, one should not overlook. Maybe he meant the counting period starts with his post? Then the first small update will be around June or so, the next one around November.
Also - do smaller updates include patches for the numerous bugs, or are they to be counted extra? If not, the next months will be ... interesting...

But soon(TM) we will have the new bug tracker, so maybe then they will answer bug reports again, or even try to fix this or that. In any case they will have beautiful long lists of bugs...

I'm still waiting for all the bugs introduced in 3.3 to be fixed. Heck, I'm waiting for bugs going back to 2.3 to be fixed. I find it puzzling that 3.3 was one of the largest updates in awhile yet has had the fewest bug patches.

Unfortunately I'm under the impression that the current game is on the back, back, back, back burner and will remain a buggy mess until the New Era comes along to replace it.

I don't expect any update or announcement to come this side of Distant Worlds reaching Beagle Point (Mid May), possibly only once the commanders have made it home.

The expedition provides both a convenient marquee activity that players are engaged with (Look how good the community is) but also a reason why there shouldn't an announcement (Community is busy, let's not distract them).

Whilst these reasons may or may not be valid, it is giving Frontier space to develop their 2020 plans in relative peace.

I would expect to receive the next 'big' announcement during June (close out of Q1) at the same time of a small quality-of-life improvement and another ship. The next announcement will then be September with a look / feel / review stream...

but that's my opinion only....

But DW2 is a merit of players and FD dind't do much for this (2 CGs). So they're silent for even 4 months now. Not even a hint what's laying in front of us (n)

Serious research project: go through the last 4 years of articles about Elite on gaming websites. How many are about some player-led activity (exploration, fuel rats, griefers...) and how many about new additions to the game coming from Frontier? I'd wager a 70/30 proportion.

Sweet when your players do the marketing for you.

Hmm. I wish this was true. But my feeling tells me that based on the "end of 2020" announcement, that we won't get much of anything this month. :(

Sweet when your players do the marketing for you.

It's called "Emergent Gameplay" and it is indeed pretty sweet when it happens. Currently on DW2 with one Alt, doing a Planetary Circumnavigation with another, and have another expedition about to start for a third. My 'main' is sat in dock, waiting for more fdev content, so doesn't get out much recently. Lots of player driven content - I wish fdev would enable even more as we have more time for the game than they do.

I know I constantly drone on about the same stuff but this is what irks me most.

If FDev knew there was going to be a 2 year hiatus in development (from the players' perspective, at least) you'd think it might've occured to them to come up with something for us to do in that time.
It's not like we're hard to please.
Give us some kind of cryptic message that points to a bunch of random places in the galaxy and we'll happily spend months, or even years, trying to figure out what's going on.

You can look at it that way, sure. I call it "unbelievably committed players who create intricate events and scenarios with extremely poor tools".

I mean, look at the Fuel Rats. All they have is a type of limpet. They were never given anything more than that (well, a decal once, wow). They have no in-game acknowledgement, no special ships, they need to rely entirely on out-of-game tools (IRC) for dispatch, they have to actually tell the client CMDR to log out of the game, while waiting to be rescued... It is a gameplay loop grounded on meta-game tools.

You can see this as an extraordinary feat of ingenuity, and emergent gameplay, sure. I see this as such, sure, but also doing far too much work for a game that has given substandard tools to begin with. From Frontier's perspective, this is maximal results with minimal efforts. Imagine what the emergent gameplay could look like in a game offering actual gameplay tools.

Just...fix...the...bugs.

"System scan complete, system scan complete, system scan complete. That must be hard to get fixed."
"Hmm, I never mapped that body, yet it already appears to be mapped. I thought they fixed that? That must be hard to get fixed."
"Why can't I complete this mission? Guess I need to abandon it. That must be hard to get fixed."
"Wow, that is one magical pirate! He can jump out of our skirmish and then jump back in and interdict me and magically have 100% shields and hull in 10 seconds. Whoa! Now he is in a totally different ship! Where can I get that tech! That must be hard to get fixed."
"Okay, let's jump in this RES site and blast some ships. Whoa! Why is the RES site moving away at 100's of KM's per second? Let's head to the nearby outpost. Whoa! The outpost is doing the same thing! What about this CZ? Surprise, it is also doing it. That must be hard to fix."
"Okay, guess I will head to a different outpost to land. Alright, pad 3. Hmm, there is an NPC ship stuck upside down blocking the pad. That must be hard to fix."
"Well, guess I will go do some engineering. Alright, pad 2. Hmm, there is an NPC ship just sitting on my pad, doing nothing. That must be hard to fix."
"That was a fun CZ victory. I blasted quite a few ships. Hmm, combat log in the Codex shows nothing. That must be hard to get fixed."
"Stupid suicidal limpets. They keep destroying themselves by trying to pick up the fragment and then doing a 90 degree turn straight up and ramming into the asteroid. Why not do a 180 degree turn back towards the ship? That must be hard to get fixed."
"Okay, let's do some trading. Oh, I see from the price comparison tool there is an expected profit of 1,800/ton for this item at the station in the system I was just at." 5 minutes later while in the station with a T9 filled to the brim, "What? How is it possible that I cannot sell this commodity? It is not even listed at this station, when it showed a profit for the item at this station?! What about other stations in this system? None! Guess I should rely on EDDB or something else as more accurate. That must be hard to get fixed."
"Okay, let's put some weapons on this bad boy. Hmm, are all of these fixed weapons? The symbols show fixed. Nope, need to click on each one to see that some are gimballed, some are turreted. That must be hard to get fixed."
"Wow, we have been hauling materials to help repair this station. Too bad 20% of it is not counted. So, of my 20,000 tons, 4,000 tons never got counted? That must be hard to get fixed."

That is all.

It would be nice to get an update on the next...er, update. At a minimum, some news on the revamped CGs would be nice as I am tired of looking at the retired CGs from March 14th on the launcher for the past three weeks. If you didn't know better, you would think the game was in maintenance mode. Oops. Did I say that out loud? 😈

I've noticed this recently. For now (until the fixes prioritizing gets to it), I just help push the stuck npc ship into the clear, shield "bumper to bumper" , then they recover and go on their merry way. It could be their ship is stuck just outside of the "do not loiter"-zone when usually they're blasted by the station's GW lasers.

I am just hoping that Frontier release the next update when it's ready, not ahead of time because the players expect an update.

Whilst it can be frustrating waiting for an update, just remember the more time it takes, the more time the bugs are being squashed and the update polished.
