Seems about time for an update?

I don't expect any announcements about 2020 content to come anytime soon, but I'm interested in seeing details about the upcoming additions for new players, which are supposed to be first quarter IIRC.

It's already April, so I guess sometime this month would make sense. Anyone care to bet a like?
An update. Is that what went on last night and which didn't finish until after breakfast this morning, thus preventing me from playing the game on one of the rare spare evenings that I have? Not for the first time either. Perhaps they could schedule or manage these updates like other applications do? Or how about an email warning of when they're going to take place?

Incidentally what's actually new?

Nope - no update to this game recently. So I guess you're happy that the game is so rarely updated :D

Sounds like you haven't played in a while.

So, in terms of new, a wonderful new BGS, filled with a dazzling array of new bugs!

Oooh, burn. :p

I'd settle for manufactured materials tweak, can't think of anything that is actually spoiling my enjoyment of the game at the moment. Oh, and tune the freaking AX CZs for christs sake.

I'm on limited Internet these days, so I am actually thankful that we are not getting updates on a weekly basis, because I have to take my console to a friend's house (at his convenience) to download the updates. I'd rather have one big update than a bunch of little ones. I think this approach also leads to better results.

That said, I sure would like a "fix all these bugs big and small" update. Just not today, LOL. Soon, however, make it SOON :D

That would be the weekly server maintenance, yes. It happens at the same time every week, and it's preceded by like an hour of in-game warnings. Would be kind of silly to send out an email at the same time every single week.

Well My point has always been. I rather have them release a new update that works than rush an update that does not work.

The weekly update literally takes the servers down for 10 minutes ;) From the histrionics it sounded like hours

Well, I guess an update did come about when I expected it to. But then again I did say I control the universe, so it should come as no surprise.

I wonder if the doomsayers and naysayers are pleased with that, or if it just increases their negativity?

Depends on the bugfixes list. However, I still see no real meat in this update as far as I am concerned.

Well, as previously advertised, it's a minor update largely focused on new player experience, and it's at no additional cost to players. However, there's not a whole lot to the benefit of most veteran players, unless like many, you were looking forward to some automation to save you from some of the repetition.

But for the health of the game and its future overall, I think the focus on new player experience, and the introduction of the player handbook, as well as a lot of the indicators they're placing in the navigation and commodity screens, is a significant step in the right direction.

But didn't FD state quite clearly that one of their primary focal points during the lull until the big drop in 2020 will be the New Player Experience? So why are so many upset when FD basically did exactly what they said they were going to do

Yeah, that's basically what I was saying. As advertised.

I didn't expect nearly so much from these minor updates, so I'm pleasantly surprised.

The first two updates:
Regular updates

In addition to the weekly and monthly activity happening in Elite, we will also be releasing a series of updates roughly every 3-4 months. The first two of these updates will primarily focus on new player and welcoming experiences, and we will also be introducing a number of quality of life improvements for the entire player base, of which we will have more news on in the coming weeks. This will help ensure that new players are able to better progress through the game, and therefore help bring more players through to our very awesome, very welcoming community. We will also have additional game tweaks, benefits and bug fixes for all players. In the subsequent updates we will be focusing on bringing in new features, perks and content, including a range of exciting new additions to the game that will build up to this new era.

It is important to note that these updates will not take the same level of content or size that we have seen from our previous updates in Beyond or Horizons, as the majority of the development team will be focusing on the new era.
