I check the distance but I don't start by working that out - I use the Strategic view and look at the lines radiating out from the control system.
As an example, using the Inara search with these parameters (Monazite sells pretty well these days), you'll find HIP 1427, which has four gas giants with pristine reserves and the correct ring type to find Monazite. Both sell price and demand are decent, so if I were pledged to Antal, I'd give this one a go. Demand isn't high enough to not get hit by bulk tax if you try to sell a Cutter full, but a boatload of 100 to 120 tons, which is about an hour of core mining, will probably earn you around 30k+ merits (I have no idea how well Antal rewards mining though; with Kaine, I got up to 50k merits for 112t of Monazite).
Be aware that the data on that site is not live - it's about a year and a half old now. And doesn't cover a bunch of stuff.Hotspots

Inara is on live data - driven by when someone using Inara last visited a system in order to update it.
EDTools is from a Spansh dump over a year ago.
Nah, the tools are just not perfect, that's all.
It doesn't take that long to flit around a dozen Control Pranav systems yourself in game anyway and then pick an Unoccupied near the one you find that has decent hotspots... and neither of the out-of-game tools are designed for doing that because the need for that is new for PP 2.0.
HIP 118213 Planet 3, lots of stuff to mine including Plat, sell at Lorenz Hub.
System has been in Boom for a few weeks now.
