Patch Notes September Update - Downtime and Patch Notes

With so little bugfixes and probably new ones being intruduced they sure know how to get rid of long time players, I doubt if I'm the only one getting tired of this.
Everytime an update arrives I hope a substantial number of bugs gets fixed and everytime I'm being disappointed, why even bother reporting bugs any longer, they're being ignored anyway.

Sheesh Fdev!!

Patch notes look good! But does this mean in networking that we'll be able to choose which network adapter to use at any given time?
I was thinking the same thing and also, shouldn't it have been programmed to select the fastest or healthiest connection instead of simply switching to a wire if one is present?

  • Added a cooldown when using hotkeys to give fighters orders, and prevented allowing players to repeat an order that has already been given to the fighter (multiple orders were creating network lag, resulting in an exploit during combat)

Naicu!

Glad to see this being finally fixed! I was getting tired of people trying to blame me for passive lag when just running my SLF's and never, ever having a history of spamming commands in my entire Elite career!
Nice on ya' for fixing this Fdev!

  • New SAASignalsFound event with bio/geo signals on planets and hotspots in rings

Nice!!! It would be cool for EDSM (or others) to be able to track bio/geo signals.

I was hoping we'd see the hole in the side of the T7 actually fixed this time though. It was in the patch notes in either the April or Chapter 4 update, but wasn't actually corrected.

Also, there are still many bio objects that won't scan into the Codex as confirmations or as reports, or aren't persistent across logouts. Any word on those?

Fixed missing 'mission target' tags from certain ships, meaning Massacre and Assassination missions should now have appropriate target ships for the players to attack

I will believe it when i see it. These missions havent consistently worked right in the three years i have been playing the game and i dont think you guys are up to making them right.

Seriously? Wasn't this year supposed to be all about quality of life? The bugs escalate, useless and irrelevant "newness" is introduced, and age-old bugs continue to breed like, well, bugs! And you've only managed to fix that small lot? Don't want to seem ungrateful and all, because I do love the game and I respect the workers and all that, but - really? That's all? I'm still getting keyboard locks from the comms panel that require ctl-alt-delete and a client kill which has been around for a year - and that's not considered critical? Disappointed. So-o disappointed. Not a thing in this update for me, but I guess that sounds entitled doesn't it. Bring on 2020 because fleet carriers mean nothing to me either!

ARX
  • ARX is the new currency that takes over from Frontier Points and real money transactions across all platforms
  • Players purchase a pack containing a number of ARX that are then used to purchase in-game cosmetic items (Game Extras) for their ship, SRV, fighter or Holo-Me
  • Players can purchase ARX from in-game links that direct either to an external Frontier Store or site
  • Any outstanding Frontier Points will be converted to ARX the first time the player logs into the game after the update

If the idea with all of this is to sell more cosmetics, fixing bugs, offering more engaging gameplay and less grind would attract (and keep) more players to buy cosmetics. However i do understand that a marketing drive is easier than spending money on actual dev time.

As far as buying cosmetics, the more complicated you make the transaction, the less likely i am to do the transaction. When it was just one step, i bought a paintjob every now and then. The new system looks less convenient, the more steps one needs to complete, the less likely an impulse buy.

Supercruise 'Safe to Disengage' message has been updated to include the binding that will disengage Supercruise

Why ?? This should be restricted to the starter experience only. I've been playing for 4 years and don't need reminding on screen what key to press.
Displaying key presses on screen is kind of a dumbing down of the game and kinda breaks immersion. Same with the 'Press 'x' to abort' when jumping to an anarchy system. It's totally unnecessary.
At least make this optional. Veteran players have no need to this kind of thing, which I hope isn't going to become a trend.

Personally, i would like to see "ITS ONLY A GAME" flash in big red letters every 10 or so seconds. Merely reminding you to press keys and which key to press is too timid. Go whole hog FD :)

It is already a trend. Most messages that tell us to do something are now associated with button prompts (hyperspace cancel, lift off from planet...), and there are keybinding reminders in the galaxy map and when using the FSS. This new message is just the next installation of an all-time-tutorial trend.
Why go through all the hassle creating such an awesome simulation vibe in the game, when breaking it by such small things. For me at least these trivial changes have a huge impact on how the game feels.

Out of the top 50 voted and confirmed issues on FDevs Issue tracker, this update might fix 5 of them.

Discoverd days ago that you can only vote for 4 BUGS in Tracker. Fdev Style to decrease Bugs is let you only vote for 4. I hope the keyboard getting stuck thing might be gone the fixed it they said but its still there. Hope there will be lesser Bugs introduced then fixed ;-).

  • Like the done something to help new Players
  • Arx Thing is good for sales and so for getting new Players, aka. keeping the game Alive.
Dislike so far nothing substential for vets.

Dislike making Elite Dangerous more and more to Elite Savespace. Don´t wanna See keybidings on Screen or at least a option to turn it of but that might to be to mutch efford for a 100 Developers.

So far for me its a Patch not on Update, better nothing
