Patch Notes September Update - Downtime and Patch Notes

Nice to see the notes up early. Unfortunately:

Mine arming: 2 seconds is still too long. Have you tried ejecting the mines further away or make the firing ship immune rather than have a simple fuse?

I'm not seeing any Powerplay bug fixes or finally removing vestigial UI that confuses (nomination). And really? Powerplay is ultra complex and still no mention in the pilots handbook?

Lack of bug fixes: are you collating them for a massive cull in 2020s build branch?

I'm not seeing any Powerplay bug fixes. Seriously, do I need to rub the notes in lemon juice for them to appear?

Plus, have you forgotten the tease mentions of "alien / other things added"?

Blocking behaviour is absurd now. Its misused as a proxy shield when ED has robust profanity filters in game plus PG and Solo modes. Its killed Powerplay, piracy and Open in general- you seriously need to sit down and think this through coherently because its a giant mess.

  • Fixed edge cases where players were being placed in the same instance as players they had blocked

Awaits the salty tears from the gankers.

Easy: when you play with others, play in such a way that others wouldn't want to block you from their games. Then the Galaxy wouldn't be so empty.
This!

I'm puzzled by the reactions though. Anyone would think "block" had just been introduced. There's no change here. In these patch notes it's simply being affected by a bug fix.

Whatever you think about the feature itself, if you don't take the view that fixing bugs is good you're just being daft.

I hope fighter lag is actually fixed... it seemed to occur regardless of whether the CMDR was spamming orders or not.

Yeah, it seemed as though the latency issue...which was added recently and didn't seem to need a limiter before...woul

Since there is no rule against blocking players it can't be abused.

That's a ludicrous supposition. Anything can be abused. Indeed, we wouldn't have exploits if mechanisms couldn't be leveraged contrary to their intent.

If blocking is to always work, then it has an instancing weight enough to do things like fracture wings, which can absolutely be abused. Off the top of my head, I can think of several scenarios where an infinite-weight block could be weaponized against other players.

Ever wing up with anyone for a RES, CZ, wing mission, or just about anything else? Well, If someone doesn't like a member of your wing, or just wants to be a jerk, they can block one of you and go where you are or seem to be going...then you can waste all sorts of time trying to figure out why you can't instance together, with the trolls never having to expose themselves. Either you start blocking people at random, which runs the risk of significant collateral damage to instancing (breaking the wings of other innocent folk), sod off to PG with your wing, or your wing doesn't quite work as a wing. Hell, if you aren't careful about who you wing up with, such a troll could even be part of it, sabotaging instancing from the inside.

The 'bug' was apparently blocks being given insufficient weight to always prevent instancing.

The moment this is corrected introduces a whole new slew of problems, because before one could be reasonably sure that a single offensive player couldn't crap up their ability to play with their friends.

Every other games which has instances allows to block same instance with player.
And well, too late :D I played in open 1 week ... 1 gank was enough for me to stop "looking for friends" ... So extra block will not change things, as who wanted plays groups/solo already.

That all seem just like easy to fix cosmetic changes. What about fixing changes to BGS? I am disappointed. Plus an upgrade on Wednesday? You people seem to be removed from reality. Maybe you play too much. Unfortunately, it is not ED that you play.

so playing in open with true blocking function is not very multiplayer friendly. Why not fix things and keep this game more like mmo? They should remove blocking not fixing it lol.

I guess that game will evolve in cooperation, not in hatering. I mean ...that new december ships coming seems like a way to player colonize distant systems. I.e. "bubble" will spread to whole galaxy in time. That way will be hard to do gank/pirating.

There's the thing. Some of us think it's extremely multi-player friendly.

Other games: "Everyone must play together".
Griefers: "Yay!"

Elite: "Play with whoever you want".
Most players: "Yay!"
