Setting throttle at 7 seconds is for chumps

All true, I just have the misfortune that some aspects of the activity I love in Elite, exploration, are boring as hell.
I sure can choose not to do them, yet that won't stop me from making suggestions that would improve exploration and make it fun. Meanwhile, I play the game as-is.
I'm an explorer and don't find it boring at all. If I did, I wouldn't be doing it. Lucky me I suppose.

I love planet breaking
Full throttle then get stopped by an imaginary barrier. I take two puffs and a bite of pizza while she cools down. Then I resume?

Or full throttle between planet and rings and get free stoppage assistance.

For most orbital destinations that earn me credits, I go in at full throttle. If course, my alt account is at the station to pull me out of supercruise.

I have to admit the first time I noticed that, I did wish your ship could be destroyed by slamming into a planet or star or black hole, but I also understand why they didn't allow that to happen.

I tend to abuse the supercruise assist whenever I can - Full speed until the timer ticks over from 6 to 5 seconds, then engage the assist, hands off and let it force the drop upon arrival despite being way too fast, works like a charm in most cases. This is not for everybody I get it, when playing without using this trick, I do think that acceleration within gravity wells should get a gentle raise, not quite sure about the deceleration phase though, ships need to stay interdictable, maybe even changes for both? Then again, using the assist trick removes the deceleration phase almost entirely... Raising both of the above in reasonable margins and fixing the assist trick (doubt this is by design) seems to be reasonable.

Still not convinced SCA is appreciably faster than full speed all the way then deselecting/reelecting at the last moment (which immediately kills velocity if there are mass shadows anywhere near by).

This got me curious. Do you know of any video or guide showing this deselect/reselect technique? I tried searching for knowledge on that, to no avail.

I don't know of any guides and the only video I have on hand is this, which isn't a particularly good example, but you can see what I'm talking about at about ~8 seconds in:

The flight computer's auto throttle behaves quite strangely with regard to SC velocity and acceleration. If you have your destination targeted and are going to overshoot, deselecting it will immediately decelerate you, if you are in the vicinity of a planet. I've been using it to avoid overshoots, almost subconsciously, for years.

Do u know how much adrenaline you could derive seeing that actually go down. Mushroom clouds on impact and a nice orbital view of it going down. Imagine it as the ultimate "f" up that even obliterates your materials? Just having that able to HAPPEN would up the stakes and add value to the more realistic qualities of elite. Shame it's not already part of the game.

An interesting discussion...

I arrive when I arrive, mostly throttling down at 06 remaining, the rest of the time looping back because I forgot to slow down. No problem 🤷‍♂️

As for SC times being boring... Entirely down to the individual I suppose, the FC is an option if folk wish for short, inter-system jumps... Isn't it the common theme on this forum that credits are so easy to accumulate they are worthless? So why are those who dislike SC times not buying one?

I suspect that for those for whom long supercruise times are a problem (and I'm not one of them so I'm only guessing) - the SC Assist feature doesn't really solve the bigger problem (e.g. it still won't let you get to Hutton Orbital in under an hour).

I might try asking the Truckers, but wasn't there a way to get there really quickly?

Off the top of my head, I am thinking it's something like jump your fleet carrier to Eden and get to Hutton Orbital in supercruise in minutes.

Is that right? Or did I pull that out of my Asp?
