Shamash Signal 25/10 new threat

Yeah. Some kind of mind control, apparently, and they would be the obvious suspects. Although it could be something completely different, too. "Kill them for me" sounds like some kind of revenge.
I’m more thinking… well, it does involve the Thetis in some way - I believe the signal is a derivative of its killer signal that drove people insane. But it seems to be more specific - ‘Kill them for me’ rather than just a “generic” ‘Kill them all’. The outcome is the same, but it’s a request from… someone.

Who that someone is? My guess lies on the masked/helmeted skull person. I saw a guess issued that, perhaps, they are a Thargoid-controlled/influenced hybrid using that signal from the Thetis for… something. Like, say, the rescued people from the Titans on the rescue megaships. I think message 10 holds a strong clue to that.

they won’t let me leave the ship/i’m trapped in here/can’t leave/can’t go elsewhere/have to do what i’m told/have to find them

(Minus its, seeming, morse code, which I’m not sure yet holds any actually relevant information - I sure couldn’t figure it out.)

I mean, why refer to something as they, doing what you’re told and that you have to find them?

Sure, it could just be the kill signal, but this… sounds like something else to me. Some of the people on the station were either not affected, or affected less slowly, seeing how skull guy killed those that became violent, but not others. A bigger purpose that just getting people killed.

Or this is all just a giant, twisted experiment. But seeing the GalNet we’ve had on Monday… I’m led to make some, potentially wrong, connections in my funny brain. The counterpoint I’m seeing myself, right now, is that this outpost is kind of just… oddly placed for such a thing. Which could just be the point. But I guess we’ll find out why sooner rather than later…

(Also worth noting - the Grey Swans… whatever, are not actually a faction in Sha… uh, what the system name was again. Thanks for pointing that one out, system chat.)

It's a speculation, but: Actually, there is something we kill "regularly" these days.

So some NPC Ax pilots kills "for him". (or for "it". I dont know...)

This is very reminiscent of what happened on one of the generation ships.
It is exactly what people have been making the link to. Generation ship Thetis is just 15 ly away from Shams… why is this name so difficult to remember? Anyway, that exact distance is mentioned in one of its logs for where the killer signal got onboard the ship…

I have a distinct feeling this is going to go a little deeper than your usual end-of-year murder mystery. Which, looking at it, it something of an unusual statement to make.

I can't believe they're doing that again. 🤦‍♂️
At least we can rely on the people at Canonn to do the stuff for those of us who don’t tend to think of it. Or just aren’t in the habit.

Oh, and as I documented in the announcement thread of the Halloween event - a ‘Grey Swan Pilots’ faction mysteriously popped into existence and into control of Garrett Orbital when this event started. But they don’t appear to exist in the BGS whatsoever and don’t show in neither the faction status tab of the right-hand panel, nor the system map factions tab. Whether that is of any use, dunno, but it’s… a little odd.

Didn’t this happen on one of those ancient deep space megaships? The Thetis? They all killed each other after hearing a strange transmission..

What Is a Grey Swan?

Grey swan is a term used to describe a potentially very significant event whose possible occurrence may be predicted beforehand but whose probability is considered small. In other words, it is a risk with a potentially large impact but a low perceived likelihood of happening. Because there is a slight chance the event will occur it should be anticipated, particularly as it could shake up the world economy and stock market.

🤷‍♂️

I guess the thing is that, regardless of how easy it hard it is to do, and acknowledging that this is still playing out... it's never been necessary for anything. Every occurrence is at best just an easter egg, at worst just a vague hint that isn't required to do anything.

On this occasion, "kill them for me" just looks like some creepy overtones... but it's not solving or unlocking anything for anyone right now, so it's just flavour?

You can, of course, be critical of anything they do, because "Frontier bad"; but as I understand it, those audio puzzles with hidden images have been very popular and somewhat highly praised in the past, and I have read the occasional "bring back those hidden message thingies". Damned if they do, damned if they don't. And for the record, I was very giddy to find this message, because I knew those puzzles only from fairytales from "way back when". I've been playing for four years now, and this is the first reoccurance of an audio image puzzle.

And a good one too, because, as @Jmanis pointed out, there hasn't been revealed anything in this hidden message; you don't miss out if you don't find it, and if you do, all that happened so far is that the audio logs get even creepier.

Non-influence factions like that are fairly common in themselves - Pilots Federation at Jameson, any engineer base, etc. - but a new one is unusual.
