Shield Booster Diminishing Returns- Stop the Stack

Still on the “no” front personally but wondering if Shield Boosters OR Cell Banks would go some way to balance this: ie you can only use one or the other, not both?
None of the ships I fly regularly use SCB's...
But then, bar the FDL & Mamba they all have utility beyond just combat 🤷‍♂️

Here is a 'fun' one...

Until recently I'd play with a friend and 'for fun' we'd play in small stock ships to try to blow each other up... It is surprising how long these little ships last when both players are trying not to get blown up! (Technically my combat skill should be way better than his, but in PvP combat we are about equal (read useless) in ability)

Oddly, there was far more laughter in these silly 'matches' than when winged up mincing NPC's in a Haz Res...

That's the sort of pew pew I could get interested in.

Being godlike among NPCs happens in MMOs and it's not a problem, it's the reward for unlocking good stuff. In Lord of the Rings Online I have raid gear so in landscape PvE play I pull orcs at least four at a time, just to give my armour something to do while slaying them one by one. If I want challenge I'm intended to go for "Signature" or "Boss" NPCs. (Elite offers those too).

On the other hand, in PvP play people want an even and interesting match.

The two kinds of play are very different. I don't think ED has or can succeed in integrating them. That's why every discussion of balance issues swirls down into the black hole of familiar debate.

Me, I have no interest in serious PvP - I'll leave that to those who are actively interested.
But, for straight up sillyness it is at the top of the chart... Sideys are good, Haulers are hilarious and Eagles (both variants) amazing! (Vipers are in a class of their own - 'serious stuff' - most of the times we played with them it was crashing into each other that more often 'ended the match' :ROFLMAO:)

I like CQC for that. The only PvP I'll ever do. Fast, fun and zero consequence to getting killed, except obviously the match score.

I don't understand why it isn't more popular - VR also adds a little to CQC flying through the structures.
I think I'm almost in double figures for kills... Triple for deaths, of course :)

And the PvErs want everything "buffed" because they aren't powerful enough

Both sides are guilty of a certain "I want haz mine" I'd say ;)

In the current thermal conduit era skillbooster stacking is not really a problem anymore. 3000 MJ shields are nothing, they just melt like butter, not even cascade rails are absolutely necessary.

Some people are complaining about shields only because they don't know how to deal damage.

The classic answer is that it is always empty. If you could fight NPCs in it as the "waiting room" or an actual match it would probably be easier to reach a quorum.

I didn't experience that, but CQC kept crashing in VR. Shame really, that and a rebuy-capped unengineered friendly are the only times PvP has been fun for me.

Engineering experimentals / heat management in the main game are fun, though, but I don't know if you could successfully integrate them into CQC to increase build diversity- I suspect it would fall to one META in the end.

No, my response was that it did not take 8 minutes minimum.
Ah, fair enough, I haven't sat down and checked the OPs numbers.

That still does lock you in to a particular weapon config, though, doesn't it? Or are you saying that plenty of builds compare in DPS to thermal conduit and would have the shields down soon?

I can't hit anything in a PA FdL because it's too jittery for my taste.
Now if a Dropship were viable in PvP, I maaaaybe could deal enough damage

Most importantly it highlights that thermal conduit would have to get looked at for balancing as well if anything was to be done about booster stacking, to prevent it from becoming too op.

1. Just get rid of Prismatics. Because to state the obvious all these mega shield tanks use Prismatics. Stacking boosters on Bi-Weave or regular shield builds is OK.

2. What else are you going to put in utility slots? Let's face it Boosters are the only really useful item. So give us some better utilities OR make missiles better so it's worth packing PD etc. etc.

3. Reduce the effect of Chaff on gimbaled weapons*. I know this contradicts my above statement but if you make Gimbaled wep's more effective then you allow shields to be taken down quicker.
* This could be done through engineering. I'm surprised it isn't already really.

Yeah buff low skill weapons because....
why exactly?

Engineering is the cancer of this game. Not only does it infest PvP - the powercreep seeped into PvE as well and made engineered the new standard. Additional roadblock to just play the very basic game - grind to play or shoot your peashooters at buff enemies.
