Shield Regeneration Lasers

Wow, interesting. Should produce a requirement for some innovative new tactics.

For all you "nay sayers" - embrace change, try not to fear it!!! - LOL

In my opinion, the OP is the one who is not embracing change by suggesting ED becomes the same as all the other game. Those that ask you to embrace change are often those that wouldn't recognise something new if it poked them in the eye.

A weapon designed for multiplayer, and more or less worthless in single player mode then.
Unless there are missions to defend other (AI) ships.
Edit: depending on how efficient the regeneration power is of course..
If it requires only a few seconds to fully restore a, let's say, T9's shield and enough time in between to go after the offender, it might work quite well.

You guys so scared of healers. Every second the beam is shooting wingman is away from enemy.

Stop worrying guys or well get more vultures that cost 6mil. Frontier guys are professionals and they know what we need, not what we want.

That's not how it works in almost all cases, unfortunately. For a "healer" to feel useful they have to heal for a significant amount. If they can heal for a significant amount, they are obviously incredibly useful, and become the cornerstone of any group PvP or PvE encounters. This means that the designers have to design with the expectation that group will have a healer. Which means, effectively, that groups without a healer are gimped by the new PvE or PvP design, and you've ended up hugely limiting player choice.

This.

On the other hand, big ship like conda and cutter could get a specific role in the battle.

But, to be completly honest, not what I've hoped to 2.1

Let's see what the upcoming weeks will bring... (but I am not so happy right now)

I love it... now people will have something else to complain about... No more the FDL or X ship is OP....

They also state aliens... so winging up with multiple ships having a reg laser is going to be awesome.....

Especially, if we can get into dog fights over planets..

Interesting...this could work out very well even in solo, or if you're not winged. Since it only works on friendlies, it could massively cut down on "friendly fire" bounties (use these heal beams in their combat configuration, and if its set right when one of the NPC cops decides to fly between you and your target it swaps over to heal pulse, including a little "thanks for the backup" chat message instead of "Hey, watch your fire, have a 200cr bounty and every single cop within 50ly descending on your head alone despite the guy with the 500k bounty you were busy shooting at when I flew through your beams because I'm a blind idiot").

I'm very excited. Healing lasers just makes sense to me since we already have SCB that heal.

many many months ago, back in 1.2, I remember saying that we should get more ways to effect shield regeneration (healing) than just SCB, such as weapons that affect shield regeneration.

it would be supremely interesting if they added a "mortal strike" as well (healing reduction/regeneration reduction)

It's an IFF weapon, you fire on enemies it does damage, you fire on friendlies it heals their shields. That's messed up right there, a repair beam of some sort, fine with that, but make it a dedicated repair tool, NOT a hurt the bad guys, fix the good guys tool. What the hell, you're a cleric tossing Heals and the enemy are ALWAYS undead?

A way to repair someone else's ship, I can go with that, it's a logical thing in a space genre game, Star Citizen is doing that, even have a large ship dedicated to doing exactly that, repairs in space on the fly to ships both smaller and larger than itself.

So, dump this 'heals friends, hurts enemies!' and give us dedicated REPAIR tools for use on other ships, specific ones for physical damage and another tool for recharging shields of another ship, at some cost our own ships for the shield recharge, either cost us our own energy(Wep cap) or steal it from our own shields, that works, that fits the genre, and NO ONE would be doing what me and others are doing right now, scratching our heads, making sure we're on the right website, and asking what the hell?

Hey I wonder if it is possible to just drop Horizons and go back to Dangerous. Presumably they won't work in that :)

Use Horizons when away from the bubble to land on pretty planets and Dangerous all other times. Actually, I might seriously consider this.

Yes!

A repair TOOL is awesome.

A hull repair limpet controller that uses metals in your cargohold? Fantastic! Bring it! A shieldcell limpet controller that that fires a limpet that carries over a shield cell from your ship to theirs, via the cargo hatch maybe, and plugs it into their shield for a recharge? Sure, why not.

A laser beam that insta-shoots space-druid nature-magic...? I think someone slipped some of our newly-legal Colorado leaves into your tea...

Exactly!!!!!! This way the pirate will NEED TO focus on escort 1st, engaging them to combat rather than using all its firepower to take down quickly the escorted one 1st!!

Except you folks keep overlooking 1 glaring issue with that...

The weapon does damage to enemy and heals friendlies, it's an IFF weapon, so they can shoot at you and recharge each other's shields ALL at the same time.
