I don't PvP, but for annoying thick shields, like those found on more advanced Wing Assassination missions, I find a good old fashioned ramming does a nice quick job of it.
Yea, it seems inconsistant to me too. Do you think that it's the variable damage? I havent experimented, but fast shots vs single charged shots vs medium charge but more per second shots? I like using them because the variable control adds a fun fire component to them. I tend to rapid fire when targets are at a distance, but up close I charge to get a full hit.I've been playing around with my large Guardian Plasma Chargers, and they've been pretty fun. Less damage than my Plasma Accelerators, but, well, they're different at least. And I like the idea that I can theoretically damage Thargoids.
The damage seems to occasionally be wildly inconsistent though. One time a burst will take nearly a full ring off a high-ranked Python or Anaconda, but other times, I'll land two or even three hits on an Adder with all rings in the red, and his shields will survive. Anyone else seen that? Or anyone heard FD comment on the issue?

Will do, I'll try more structured testing.I made a bug report, if you wouldn't mind commenting with your experiences, it'd be appreciated.
I just need to practice with mines, ‘cause an NPC pirate dodged the mines, and a System Authority Vessel came to the respond, and flew into a couple of my mines and I became Wanted in both Sothis and Ceos...with 728 tons of cargo. Yikes!
