Ship Creator

I myself would like a Ship creator. Obviously it wouldnt just be create a ship n thats that. Dont know if you all ever played segas chromehounds but you had to keep within guidlines ie keep your chasis rite as to not over burden with to much weight, keep your weapons in check as to not go over the power of your generator and so on.

If one was to be created players would/could (depending how frontier model it all) have to stay within those guidelines or the ship could not be created. Also if a player wanted to create a ship, not only would it cost credits but once horizons is out, parts for ships could also require materials, X ammount.

This is an optionable idea, so there would be some level of fairness, through elite if players wanted it- Ships could have a certain ammount of points to distribute when it comes to building there ship, that means a player wouldnt be able to get the best of everything when it comes to cockpit, hull, wings, landing gear, tail and any other constructable pieces.

The bigger the ship you create, the more expensive it would become to build in both credits and materials, there is a chance that some ships could run into the billions, (just a thought)...

Each part for the ship would have different values towards the stats of the ship, smaller ships being much faster but carrying less, bigger ships being able to carry more but sacrifice speed, the way it mostly works already pretty much.

Ships catagorys would have lots of different looking pieces, cockpits for instance would be different in size, height, width, cannopy, lights.

A ships parts would be put into catagorys:

1: Cockpit

2: Hull

3: Wings

4: Tail

5: Landing Gear

6: Cargo Capacity (lets say for every 10 cargo, it cost 100k)- but when reached 50 cargo that price inccreases to 200k per 10 cargo, once reach 100 cargo a further increase of 500k per 10 upto 150 cargo where it goes upto 1 million credits upto 200, then per 10=1.5mil upto 250c, 250-300 2mil per 10 and on n on the math goes.

Once the shell of the ship is created, then you could move on to the interior, rearanging seats, display of the ships computer (have it looking how you want), so long as you can piece it all together that is.

Thats all i can think of for now, but once the above shell of the ship and interior is created then you could move onto the internals/hardpoints, again having to keep in all of the guidelines that are already there. Having a small ship, couldnt possibly be able to have those massive weapons, shields and other equipments bigger ships could utilize, because of the size of the ship.

Theres plenty of room for everyones suggestions. Feel free to add to it, ill add your ideas to the list and your name by the side of your idea if you dont mind, but i feel as though a ship creator could add alot of difference to elite and i hope you can support the idea. Thank you for taking the time to read.

It you want ship building, look into Empyrion - Galactic Survival, Interstellar Rift, or perhaps From the Depths for a less Sci-Fi experience.

Elite is not an engineering game. Not that I don't enjoy engineering games, but Elite is about the pilot's experience. The ships, in lore, are built by corporations who presumably employ teams of engineers and designers to build ships that fit certain roles. Plus, grid-building always makes things really blocky.

Evochron Mercenary had a nice ship builder system. it was not too complex, and allowed some building and even styling by allwoing where to put the Parts.

you had ships chassis, and then parts. basically a bit like current hulls and and weapon hardpoints internals.
Then you select components to add.

ok have a vid

Ok, I can't find a video showing how the customisation really works.
but every part, Wings, Cargo, cokcpit, thrusters were within the area of the Ship be able to pushe around on X Y and Z axis. Allowing quite some indicidual designes to happen.

FD have already ruled out ever having some sort of ship builder or accept anyones 3D models for reasons of balance as well as well as damage mechanics but it would also make things like the VR experience and waling around your ship someone more difficult to do. They would have to invest heavily in a designer application (and support it) which is investment better spent in the core game etc.

Don't underestimate the power of customisation. It is something that brings in and keeps a lot players, because it allows you to create and have something unique.
But I guess for E: D it's too late at this point, I just hope we cna in future get camo patterns and use colors as we want on them. and maybe a way to put decals on our ships instead of the preset ones.

And at this point, unless Ship customisation isn't at leats as possible as car customisation in APB:reloaded any space game can try to tell me about "unique" shipcustomisation, but it won't be truly unique. Custom paintjobs has way more perosnal touch than just slapping a few components together. But even a brickbuilder like system without skindesign won't ever reach specific touch of individualism.

No. A ship creator has no place in the game and FD already said no to it. Period. Let me know when you can go to Mitsubishi and tell them to build you your own car based on other pieces.
ED is just like that. Gutamaya, Lakon and all these manufacturers will not let you do that. If you want to play evochron go for it. But don't push the envelope when you're told no.

I am quite sure I can just buy a few vars and make my own out of it. You know because thats what humans do. Shiptuning would very much be real past what E: D calls outfitting.

You don't understand the meaning of no, do you? ED already said no to that. Why are you trying any further?

a no, more like a not yet. I have seen many devs in many games saying this and many ended different. Selling at elats different ship-style parts will be an easy way for FD to generate Money via shop. years will pass, things will change.

You would need a cost multiplier vs commercially available ships. A unique prototype would have to cost at least 5X a similar commercial design and that multiplier would scale exponentially with the size of the ship.

In the end, we get enough customization options that this really isn't worth it.
