Ship integrity and repair all

What possible reason is there for not including integrity and breaking it out if not for the idea that the cost was supposed to be substantial but got nerfed early on into nothingness or made inconsequential due to income inflation?

in the current game I see absolutely no logical reason for integrity to exist alone and nobody has yet been able to provide one. There's 0 reason why anyone would want to not have 100% integrity when at all possible ...and no reason to not have it included in the repair all function if they're bothering to repair things.

edit: And cost is not cost when the cost is so small that it doesn't matter. At that point it becomes a tedious worthless action you have to do for no reason. With the money you make doing things in the game, it's impossible for you to start considering thousands to tens of thousands of credits as being significant. Even costs that run half a million do not mean anything to anyone except the newest of newbies. it's a bad mechanic because it fails to scale and where it exists only matters to the sliver of users who are just starting out. Really we shouldn't be talking about whether integrity should be in it or not, but why they aren't either fixing the scaling problem or getting rid of it entirely since it's only purpose seems tobe to penalize new players while more experienced players can ignore is impact entirely. That's backwards from how cost mechanics should work.

Just because it doesn't matter to you, or possibly even anyone you know, doesn't mean that it doesn't matter to others.

Perhaps it would be better if the proposed ability to include integrity and paint as options may be better to have them included by default, and give the player the option to not include them, or de-select them under repair all.

Either way would be an improvement over the current design.

paint being separate make sense because it's an aesthetic choice.

there's no reason for integrity to not be desired to be at 100%. It's not a subjective thing. There's no strategy in keeping it unfixed. It exists as a relic of a feature that was designed because the costs to repair things on ships was supposed to matter to players so they'd have to pick and choose sometimes ...and care about the costs to force them to make choices to limit them. That reality never got a chance to exist, and it's time to just get rid of it. It was killed before 1.0 dropped.

as for whether it should cost anything at all or exist... low costs only penalizing new players is not a subjective opinion. It's fact that has nothing to do with me or anyone i know. I would challenge anyone to provide a good explanation as to the benefit to the game low cost actions (low thousands to tens of thousands) have when your income is measured in the tens to hundreds of millions per hour. They're useless filler like most of the commodities the game has because nobody cares about them because they're never profitable and dont matter.

Think it used to take care of that and paint as part of the repair all. But then people wanted to show off their faded paint jobs while still being able to hit the 'repair all' button.
I always wanted a can of touch up paint on those long trips for aesthetically pleasing photo ops!
Yeah, I always press all the buttons, I like to keep a clean and tidy Clipper...

CLearly, I will never change your opinion on this point, and I can respect that.

For myself, I will always opt for more options over fewer. I do think that having repair all include integrity as the default would be the better way to go.

Cost is still cost, regardless of amount. I think the ability to include integrity and paint as additional selectables under repair all is not unreasonable. If you decide to include integrity every time, that's fine too.

Make it an option for the OCD cmdrs. For everyone else, we'll just get on with it.
