Ship Interiors!!

Maybe not the idea, but the way FDEV might implement it.
And how much resources making them might draw from other areas of development of the game, if for no other reason than manpower costing money.
On that basis nothing would ever be developed, Frontier might develop any feature badly, and effort put into any area of the game will probably detract from other areas. I try not to oppose any development that while I might not find it interesting, others obviously do.

I always stand slightly amazed at the concept that the only part of the wide, wide galaxy that is unavailable to explore is through the door at the back of the cockpit. How can it be 'my ship' if I can't even go through that door?

There was another one

I am positioning my aircraft carrier as a military vessel and hope that all my crew members will have the same uniform.
Star Trek, Star Wars and etc crew members had the same uniform.

P.S. The inside of an aircraft carrier is not really of interest to me. I'd rather wander the corridors of Corryolis Station, or explore an abandoned mega-ship.

I don't quite get why anyone would oppose ship interiors.
Stuff like this probably? (from the other thread about ship interiors)

Now those figures are not exact, but they show (i hope) an important point. ED can not afford to be falling down a money-pit like (it could be argued) Star Citizen has. Focus on the core game (in ED) and make it better, throwing the kitchen sink in costs time and money and those are more finite resources in ED than they perhaps are in Star Citizen? Frontier need to choose their battles well imho.

And that is just looking at the bare financial difference between Star Citizen and Elite Dangerous, without going into the fact that Star Citizen is focused on PC only (so not held back by console tech) and the god awful 'game the whales' with virtual space ships sales to keep some money coming in.

With hindsight we might even be able to say that Odysseys on foot fps stuff might have been too much for the means at Frontiers disposal? Fancy complex ship interiors is almost on the level of that (in terms of programming effort) , unless you did it a little fake like in X4, with fixed animation moving between cabins/cockpits and outside etc.

Being so silent for a month it seems that even community managers are now part of development (or at least QA) team.
I think something big might possibly be about to drop or happen and they are afraid someone will spill the beans on it. That, or they really could give 2 craps about the community and figure no news is best when there is no news.

Unfortunately the skimmers at settlements seem to be in no-clip mode - I’ve seen a Goliath quite happily float through the buildings on my landing pad on several occasions.

That's the point: Ship interiors and full station interiors and full carrier/megaship interiors are the core game.

Think about it: ED is much about exploring 400 billion stars. They could have easily dumbed that number down to a few thousand (like SC plans to). Exploring places is ED core game. Among such places are ship interiors and the inside of stations.

ED is a spaceship game, and spaceships are the core.

That is what they did with Odyssey: Adding FPS gameplay that nobody asked for. Instead of sticking to the core of the game, they added a new game to it. I usually play on EDO, but I have not the slightest clue about its FPS elements, because that is not what interests me. I do, however, walk inside the stations in the small part that is accessible.

Not too much. Just the wrong thing. And that's not hindsight. We told them before.

The aforementioned glitches are strong evidence that it wouldn't be hard to make it happen, at least to the extend that it is possible now by accident. Hell, many of us would probably be fine with the graphics details shown by the habitat glitch video (thought improving that a bit should be possible).

It's never been a core part of the game series before? Sure they are obviously places you visited to do the main core part of the game (explore the galaxy, trade the goods, attack other ships (for stuff) and upgrade your ship/buy new ships).

Granted hardware is better now, so you can expand on what was there decades ago (heck i even put together a mod for FFED3D to improve the 'internal view' of the spaceships, so i like eye-candy too!), but you have to be realistic. Look at how much money Star Citizen has, look at what it has decided to focus on, and then look at what Elite is (historically and what we have in ED) and do the sums. Frontier has nowhere near the level of finances required to get even close to the level of detail Star Citizen is struggling to pull off. From what i have gathered Odyssey is still struggling to find it's feet (no pun intended), and it is not an easy thing to do, especially cross-platform.

MMO has also never been part of the game series before ED. Are you in favor of cutting that out now? :->

No one is asking them to. But what is already possible via glitches or VR could obviously be easily implemented without much effort.

I believe that if Frontier did a kick starter for the next expansion and their expressed 100% mission was to implement ship, and station interiors with gameplay; AS WELL as the panther clipper… they would take in a few mil.
