Ship names?

Let's see, starting from the most used;

GDV Pancake IV. My primary Anaconda, offen used for all combat activities, including AX .
GDV-AX Paladin II. My AX Corvette. Still needs further refinement, so I don't end up on Paladin III. Lol
Event Horizon. My secondary Anaconda, currently setup for core mining, but also handles passenger missions, and deep space exploration.
GDV Firestorm. My Krait MkII, which is for combat tasks, and is also leaning towards PvP engagements.
GEV Legacy. My Krait Phantom. My primary exploration ship.
GDV-AX Athena II. My Alliance Challenger. Solely for AX, and is quite good at it.
GDV Stellar Assault II. My FDL. Pure combat, currently configured for AX, and the first ship I lost to the Thargoids.
GDV Thunderforce III. My Python, primary used for combat transport of passengers or cargo.
GEV Enter Infinity III. My DBX, a long range taxi, for when my Krait Phantom is overkill.
GTV Eastbound. My T9, our cargo transport.
GRV Eclipse. My Imperial Eagle, for racing (work in progress).

I had LL928 - that was the bees knees :)
I didn't have it as a kid but desperately wanted it. A couple of years ago I decided to sell my boxed star wars lego collection to fund the restoration of my childhood classic space collection and buy all the stuff I didn't have.

It is a true thing of beauty and a great build.

Cutter - STEELY GLINT - Stolen from Iain M Banks, a culture ship reference and a shifty character

Excellent choice!

Agreed - she's a tough old bird. If you ever decide to take one out in open, take a look at this first:

-sweary video removed-

This is basically the manual on how to trade in open with a T7 :)

After watching that I am re-thinking. I knew fighting wasn't going to work but running would so I installed mine launchers(Knowing they will pursue) and I also set it up for mining.
But now I am reconsidering

...

Diamondback Explorer - Argo
Seemed like a good name for an exploration ship

Type 6 - Not For Hire
No reason. Just thought it sounded cool

Type 7 - Early Bird IV
Early bird gets the worm. I made most of my credits doing trade/transport in a variety of ships all named Early Bird. Obviously the 4th incarnation.

Fer-De-Lance - Chimera
Just thought it sounded cool and warshippy.

Federal Corvette - FNS Tiger's Claw
Wing Commander!

Krait.
Cyco Star-Pig

Named after the guitarist from a band I was in in the late ‘80s.
Died of an overdose.

Sometimes I come up with other names for the ship.
But when you make a memorial it tends to stick.

Fellow Commanders, allow me to introduce you all to the Phoenix Fleet, owned and operated by Commander Jason Burke (yes I am a fan of the Omega Force series of books by Joshua Dalzelle)

Phoenix Hunter - Vulture - main small combat ship
Phoenix Warrior - FdL - main combat ship
Phoenix Scout - Imp Courier - data runner and just a fun ship to fly
Phoenix Ranger - DBX - was the explorer of the fleet but will become the fleet's taxi (and renamed Phoenix Taxi)
Phoenix Huey - Python - mission runner, trade, the workhorse of the fleet - named after the wonderful UH-1H helicopter, ugly, not a lot of fun to fly but does what it has to do
Phoenix Queen - Imperial Clipper - the flagship of the fleet
Phoenix Hatchling - Imperial Eagle - just a fun ship to fly
Phoenix Prospector - Krait MkII - fitted out very nicely for mining
Phoenix Digger - Asp Explorer - was the primary mining ship, might sell it as it as outlived it's usefullness
Phoenix Endeavour - Krait Phantom - the exploration ship for the fleet, whether it is long range exploring, or down to the surface.

All ships are kitted out the same, all with Vibrant Red paint job and identical placement of decals :D

Mostly I started a theme.
Clipper-Tranquil Hegemony
Cutter-Serene Visions
Vette-Calm Horizons
Krait MK 2-Static Express
Cobra MK4-Quiet Repose

DBX-Silent Runnings
Beluga-Slow Ride
Three Pythons-Magaera, Alecto, Tisiphone
Clipper- Disco Volante "You Know"
Have yet to name the others.

Asp Explorer - Far Star (Isaac Asimov's "Foundation" novel)

Type 6 - Nostromo (Alien)
Dolphin - Moonraker (James Bond film of the same name)
Python - Dark Star (John Carpenter film of the same name)
Diamondback Explorer - Discovery One (2001 A Space Odyssey)
Beluga Liner - Mayflower One (Airplane II: The Sequel)
Anaconda - Thunder Child (War Of The Worlds novel)
Type 9 Heavy - Satellite Of Love (Mystery Science Theater 3000, in turn named after a Lou Reed song)
Mamba - Red October (The Hunt For Red October)
Federal Corvette - Chimaera (Thrawn's Star Destroyer in the Thrawn Trilogy of Star Wars novels)
Hauler - Kobayashi Maru (Star Trek II and mentioned in other Star Trek media)
Imperial Courier - Tireless (Isaac Asimov's "The Stars, Like Dust")
Imperial Eagle - Remorseless (another Star Destroyer from the Thrawn Trilogy)

Apollo Program
Krait Mk II - Yankee Clipper (Apollo 12 CSM)
Krait Phantom - Intrepid (Apollo 12 LM)
Imperial Clipper - Kitty Hawk (Apollo 14 CSM)

This is from memory, so may skip ships I don't regularly use or are stored somewhere I haven't been for a while:

Corvette - Wayward Wanderer. Combat focused multi-role, legacy engineered. I got bored around October 2016 & took this 19ly ship on an 18 month grand tour of the galaxy. Reached Beagle Point in July 2017, spent the new year '17/'18 in Colonia & returned to the bubble in March 2018. Still gets brought out occasionally for assassinations & was regularly used for CZ duties before the 3.3 changes. My favourite ship.
Corvette - Number Two (named for the 3.3 exploration & swear filter changes). An attempt to improve on my first Corvette with new post 3.0 engineering, has a 30ly jump range with a guardian FSD booster. Used for armed exploration.
Cutter - The Golden Goose (ie don't kill me ;)) multi-role trader with 512t capacity, C8 Bi-weave shield with three shield boosters, it has around 2,000 shields & 2,200-ish hull armour, used for Open large pad mission running & currently station repair A-B trading.
Cutter - Bait. Shieldless 792t trade cutter bought specifically for repairing stations. The slightest scratch costs thousands & I enjoy the challenge of flying shieldless (usually in solo). Has a combo of rail guns & frag cannons to give any attacker a bloody nose but it's not designed to kill anything.
Conda - Legs Eleven. 75ly exploration paper aeroplane, equipped for self sufficiency & a single small beam for 'experimenting' with whatever I find.
Conda - Pax Lap (a reference to IRL track days). Bought specifically for rescuing refugees from burning stations.
Python - Transaction. Medium pad BGS mission runner & daily driver in the bubble, 200t capacity with C6 Bi-weave shields.
Python - Thug. This was the ship that got me to combat Elite in 2015, it has always been a dedicated CZ ship & is my only ship with no cargo space, it's filled with defensive modules to stay in the fight. Main weapon is a long range C3 fixed beam (most of my ships have at least one fixed beam).
T-9 - "Maggie" (this iron lady's not for turning (no political affiliation)). 736t of open viable cargo hauling for maximum Open play trade capacity. Small shields & reinforced internals, designed to survive piracy.
T-9 - Cattle Grid. Originally bought to transport refugees before realising the Conda could carry more, now converted to a 784t shieldless (but armoured) trader. Only used in high security systems & generally gets shipped around to wherever I need it because it's cheap & I don't mind losing the occasional hull in the name of entertainment (trading can be dull ;))
Krait MkII - Tony (ie the tiger, it's Krait!!). Ostensibly a replacement for Thug the CZ Python, gets taken out when I fancy a change but I prefer the more challenging flight characteristics of the Python.
I own several Cobra MkIIIs, mostly the same loadout & stored in strategic locations for taxis/light BGS work & exploration. Lightly armed & armoured, super fast & fun to chuck about. 'Gunrunner', 'Frenetic' & 'The Original' (the earliest hull I still own) are the ones I remember the name of.
Cobra MkIV - Minor (pre-3.3 mining ship). Used for getting the Bromelite to unlock an engineer, I hate mining so it seemed fitting that the CIV would be good at it.
Cobra MkIV - Protractor. Exploration build, used once & left somewhere in frustration, I shipped a taxi over & flew the taxi home. I'd remote sell it if I wasn't such a miser.
Sidewinder - Zip. Exploration build with enhanced drives. Used for scouting CG & other high player traffic systems and exploring in the bubble.
Sidewinder - Velcro. Combat build, only really gets used for occasional wake scanning sessions now.

I have other ships but these are the ones I use regularly & have named (and can remember without checking ;))
