Ship naming filter at it again

I have an alt. on Xbone with a Sidey named Twinkle Titz, no censor there. Sadly she doesn't get played with much. My hotas bindings are reset every time I log out and I can't be arxed to tweak 'em every time I want to play with her.

OP.... your ship in the screenshot is named "Blue Waffle". Anyone curious should google(extreme NSFW warning) that because after that, it's clear your naming scheme isn't just coincidence (and I agree I hate overly restrictive filters), but in your unique case, it's clear what you're trying to do and they put those restrictions in just for people like you.

Lol, no. Just because somebody might think of cucumbers in an inappropriate way nobody is allowed to use that word anymore?

OP's intentions aside, those restrictions aren't there "for people like them". The filter is merely not sophisticated enough to give the intended results.

It took an awful long time for my request to have one of my ship's names added to the whitelist - Cumbrae - although the Gaelic Cumaradh which I also asked for has still not been passed.

Let's not go there with the naming of my ship, i agree it means something else entirely, but the words individually in themselves are not offensive. My original point of this thread was a simple one to be fair. How a vegetable name can be banned, but a system name on the other hand is offensive, if you take the names individually. Plus, let's not forget as i've already mentioned, if i called my ship the same as the system name in the picture, that would in itself be banned, which is just ludicrous.

At the end of the day, as suggested by a few people, add a naming filter button, where we choose to accept various ship names, regardless of meaning, or if found offensive, then filter on, job done. But stop it FD with the filter nonsense as it makes no sense a lot of the time, as it's utterly stupid how it works in it's current form. Even your system name is ridiculous, that clearly can't be right as shown in the photo.

Naming things to be clever stops when you realise you're an adult, but I don't figure that will happen for a while yet, so until then you need to have a nanny, oh! but how good does it feel to get one over on the nanny.

Oh here we go, someone who clearly doesn't understand the point of the thread and turns up making silly comments. I've already explained the point of this thread, if that is a little above you, stay after school, i'm sure the cleaner can explain it to you

That's a lot worse than my ship name. If i called my ship Turd Wu, that would never get through the filter, thereby creating a paradox. As to town names being offensive, again i agree, there's a small village in Wiltshire called C u c k o o' s K n o b, (filter already kicked in), bet that wouldn't get through the ED filter either. Dreithar is right, need a filter toggle that we choose, where it's up to us to decide if we want to see silly names or not. Plenty of other games do this
Precisely, that would be an easy fix - either accept the filtering as ED implements it OR disable the filter and risk being offended.

Of course, non-solo streamers/YouTubers will probably have to either tolerate the filter or mark their content NSFW (just to be on the safe side).

[EDIT]I was actually thinking of a certain "Grand Tour" episode where Clarkson was using an English language sat-nav on mainland Europe and having trouble with pronouncing some of the place names without sounding like he was swearing.[/EDIT]

As for the system name "Turd Wu", I see nothing wrong with it despite the English slang usage of the term Turd. Context is everything, for example you should look at some of the names of places across the UK and Europe as a whole.

Yeah it looks like someone feed a string search function with a dictionary of swears in all supported languages, probably. The person implementing this was probably a junior who never heard of regular expressions and word boundaries. Or it was done on purpose to throw a cosy blanket over everything and keep that PEGI 7 rating. Which is weird that a game with human trafficking and drugs even got it. Either way, a toggle would be most welcome here, online interactions aren't rated anyway. Anyone can open comms and yell profanities at you if you choose to answer.

Oh here we go, someone who... want's show how clever he is to his 11 year old friends and complains about restrictions
It's not me that needs to be kept behind in school is it? you're the one who who makes rude* words on their ship because their guardian doesn't understand,
you should be sent to bed with no tea.

*rude... for an 11 year old

Clever or not, 11 y'old or not, he has a valid point. "Cucumber" is not a swear word. A normal word containing an "offensive" word is not socially offensive. Or is it now and the world has gone to the cats*? Luckily nah, it's just shoddy programming job.

*Dogs are lovely creatures. I would like the world gone to the dogs actually, it would be a nice place.

Censorship gone mad.

In a similar vein, I just had the rpg video game Arcanum: Of Steamworks & Magick Obscura delisted for sale on Amazon because they apparently classify it as a starting pistol.

Living the Orwellian nightmare here.

Not Cats, cats are lovely creatures - how about to the politicians, they are a strange sub-species of humanity most of which think they know better than the average human when they actually know significantly less (especially in the UK). ;)

ED is not the first product with a word filter that does not consider the context of any given character sequence appropriately.

Anyway, back on point. So my ship name is banned for being named after a vegetable for god's sake. While i'm seething over this in game, i'm flying around doing stuff when i came across this system. And this isn't offensive at all is it?

Perhaps the reason is, that a cucumber could be used for dirty games...?

...but remember cats are better than dogs!
