Ship skins for Xbox One

For the payment system part, not sure if this is the way you'll be doing it but I kinda like the way Ubisoft seems to get around the Xbox market is to sell their own currency and then sell the items for that currency in their UPlay app. I think it's a way of not having to included every little skin and item into the Xbox Live Marketplace and instead they have full control of what content they add and when. Just an idea.

Sure, there are a number of companies that sell Virtual Currency on the Xbox marketplace which is then used to make purchases on their own Store.

Which still means that Micro$oft has the final say and a no doubt generous cut on what transactions go and don't go :)

Just sometimes, I wish I had stayed a PC gamer....

Great idea, done!

In all seriousness, it's something we've been working on and looking at for a while. Gary specifically being the incredibly Xbox Community Advocate that he is has been working on getting this up and running for a while.

In the short term we'll try and keep this updated with things like competitions, Community Goals and other relevant information. However, I'd be more than happy to take any suggestions you have for other info you'd like to see.

Yay! We love it when we can talk to you guys! :D

Also, you guys have no idea the cash injection that you will get when we get skins. I know for a fact that me and at least 11 others will buy ALL of the skins right off the bat! We don't even own most of the ships and we're still going to! (Our little way of thanking you for bringing Elite to Xbox)

Borderlands by Gearbox/2k does this too with Shift codes.

That's THE most frustrating thing about it. There are games on the xbox 360 which have had these things in place for years. Features that these games LAUNCHED WITH.

Features that ED for PC has had for over a year now.

And yet here we are, 8ish months from the beta launch and 4ish months from the live launch..

And the best we can get is.. "it's being worked on" "maybe 2-6 more months"

I've followed a lot of dev cycles on a lot of things, but I'm struggling to figure out how such a small feature that so many titles have launched with can still be incomplete. Especially when it's complete and implemented on other platforms already.

From a business standpoint: Whomever is your Operations manager at FD.. they need to be concerned about the amount of lost revenue here and start cracking some heads. Not only is this THE most demanded feature of the XB1 game, but it should have been a part of the launch package to meet Xbox's parity clauses. Not having it frustrates your customers, sure. But it's also a slap in the face to your business partners.

XBL loses out on sales $ for not offering this.
PC mag loses out on sales $ for promoting a code only available to PC users.
Other partners who could help you tap into revenue streams are non-existent because this feature is incomplete (magazines, community events, ect ect).

I want you to think about this: Rocket League launched this week on XB1. And sure.. it came months after it did on the other platforms and is even feature incomplete in a few spots on XB1 vs. it's PC/PS4 counter parts... but you know what? I could go to the XB1 store A WEEK BEFORE THE GAME EVEN LAUNCHED and I was able to PRE-purchase PDLC from them.

BEFORE
THE
GAME
EVEN
LAUNCHED.

FD needs to rethink their strategy here. They need to front load the revenue streams so that they help with future development costs. NOT put these features last and expect them to do well AFTER the player population dwindles off.

Just want to mention that the Xbox One version of Rocket League came with all the DLC (as far as I am aware and apart from the BTTF DLC) for free. Probably just MS throwing extra cash at them but something to think about.

BTTF is what I'm talking about: https://store.xbox.com/en-US/Xbox-O...Car-Pack/a94ad9f6-0698-4fc0-9735-2c8b6ad160ba

That's a $2 Back to the Future car pack that if you want, you have to buy separate from the game.

This is P-DLC for a rocket car NOT included with the release of Rocket League. Players have been able to purchase this DLC for use a WEEK BEFORE the game was released.

--------------------

And ALL you who are "Well it's probably MS's fault" need to understand the HOOPS MS jumps through to bring LICENSED content as P-DLC to game and put it in their store for customers.

MS is NOT the hold up here, it's ALL on FD for not having this store up and running and the longer that goes on the more ridiculous it is compared to what other studios are accomplishing BEFORE their GPP release.

To be slightly fairer to FDev than I have in the past...there's this scenario to consider. All this DLC (Paint, Horizons) has already been sold to our PC bretheren at a set price...for instance, £10 for a set of skins for a sidewinder direct from the Frontier store.

Then we add Micro$oft adding their inevitable cut to that price in the Xbox store, tipping the cost to us Xbox wallahs at perhaps £12.50 for exactly the same set of skins, otherwise FDev take a hit, not to mention the huge wailing and gnashing of teeth from us who already know how much the PC guys bought theirs for...

Then there's Horizons, no idea how much the DLC addon was for the PC guys...then there's Micro$oft's cut on top of that in the Xbox store... can you imagine the grief that would cause?

Yes it is, look it up. Especialy Revenge of the Battle cars. That is a paid DLC on PC but came for free on Xbox One.

The grief would pay for itself though.

Think about it. FD doesn't have the feature implemented.

What is 5% of $0? It doesn't matter what FD wants their cut to be, or how much MS wants of that. Without the feature there's still $0 to be shared and split between them.

Then think about this: What FD charges for a skin pack is already INSANE compared to comparable PDLC.

Look at the Back to the Future car pack for Rocket League. It's TWO DOLLARS. THAT'S IT.

Built into that TWO DOLLARS?

1)The cut for Rocket League's publisher
2)The cut for Rocket League's studio
3)The cut for MS
4)The cut for Universal who owns the license for Back to the Future.

I just don't see how when other party's are splitting $2 four ways how what FD charges makes any sense at all. I also fail to see how MS can be blamed for that when there's all this evidence of MS giving support to publishers who want P-DLC for their games.

Yes, other platforms pay for DLC which is now part of the Rocket League package, that's a separate point though.

When we're having the conversation with FD about why this feature is incomplete it's because the Hooks for it on XB1 haven't been created yet.

What I'm saying is that it's INSANE for the hooks to have not been created PRIOR to release.

It's a failure that's costing FD money and management needs to be angry about this and re-prioritize.

Error, what you are talking about is true, sooooo many Dev's bring the P-DLC for free to the XB1, just like Rocket League did with the Revenge of Battle Cars.

But I'm not asking for free PDLC. I'm asking to be able to BUY PDLC.

Heck, I'm not even asking to USE the PDLC, let me pre-purchase it and wait.

It should also be said that FRONT loading these revenue streams creates investment.

You'll have a segment of players not wanting to walk away from your game BECAUSE they've invested in Paid DLC.

Right now, without PDLC.. a player doesn't have that hook keeping them in.

CMDR'S: Sure, Paintjobs doesn't do anything to the balance of the game, and you might be MORE concerned about the game being better balanced.. or the game getting Horizons.. or OTHER gameplay content. But understand, this is about money which is in turn used to create and expedite the development process.

If you want horizons and other game content more quickly, then you need to concerned about the lack of current P-DLC. It's that financing that a dev (especially smaller devs) need to maintain/increase the creating process and reduce lead times/production stalls.

Even if you don't want a paint job, you WANT this in your games so that you can get what you DO want and support your studios.
