Shock Horror! I've Been Playing the Game As Intended!

So, it suddenly dawned on me today, that I believe I'm playing the game exactly how FD wanted...

•I don't grind the same mission 473 times a day.
•I won't repeatedly fly backwards and forwards 100ly with my 10 rare goods to give to an engineer.
•I don't stare at my military or combat rank after each mission or kill to see if it moved.
•I don't suicide myself to clear a bounty.
•I don't spend my entire session trying to find 1 material.

... Am I doing it wrong?

The only thing I do seem to do, is log out and in to see if non-mining missions pop up, Otherwise I move on.

Other hand that, I seem to do whatever takes my fancy at the time.
Some missions are fun to do a few times over, data scanning and whatnot. But I won't spend all day doing them just one type.
That engineer will get his goodies the next time out near where they sell them, I'm not making 2 more dedicated trips for them. The other engineers wanting things will get them when I stumble across them, and I'm nearby to hand them in. (I have lots of half unlocked engineers!)
I've got a 50,000cr bounty because of PowerPlay murdering, so bounty hunters are suiciding themselves off me all the time. It's funny/annoying but I'm going to keep it.
I'm slowly working towards my Elite combat rank, and the rank for a Corvette. But I'm in no rush, I don't even really need a Corvette.
I did run out of Sulphur earlier, so I landed to see what I could find. Then carried on with my previous task.

I used to grind things quite a bit.
Combat, Missions, Hyperspace, Materials, etc.

But the game, for me, feels so much better when I just play it, rather than try to beat it.

I'm not saying it's wrong to do any of those things. Each to their own. :)
I'm just saying I've found my groove in ED, and I'm happier than ever!

Fly safe all!

Oddly enough, that is how I play too. The only time my actions get remotely "repetitive" is if I am taking part in a community goal.

Great post, commander.

Suiciding yourself clears a bounty?

Not really, but it does make it dormant. That is one thing I want them to remove.......makes the Suicidewinder a valid exploit.

Choices are great...I refuse to fit guns on my ship on personal principle...thats simply my choice to do this even though the risk is obvious, especially if yer in ironman mode with not enough cash fer even a single rebuy. Thats my choice...arents choices great? Lets not build a wall around them though...one likes the freedom of having those choices ^

I have the choice to play like this until I choose not to...then fit guns and start murdering anything that moves just fer giggles. Choices ^

Lol well until FD fix PowerPlay, I'm gonna milk that one. :p

To be honest, getting 750 merits on week 3 isn't going to be a "grind". I did 300 in 20 minutes, and it was quite fun to murder random people for a change. Lol
So basically an hour's work should cover it. Then I can get back to doing whatever I feel like. :D

I would stay in PowerPlay if it offered any other benefits. But it doesn't.

Ah yes, Power Play. I've long said that Powers should have affiliated factions within each system-& that doing certain missions for those factions will assist your pledg3d power *and* earn you merits, alongside the merits you earn via the usual Power Play activities. So massacre missions against a rival faction might be a power mission if your pledged power is currently trying an undermining activity in that system. Data and cargo deliveries might be Power Play missions if the power is trying to expand into the system you're delivering to.

Right on, Commander!

There are lots of us here playing the game like this.

You don't hear from us as often as the vocal few, because we're too busy playing the game.

+1 and other chars.

:D
The only reason you hear from me so much is because I'm 'busy' at work.

Or my girlfriend is hogging the TV.

This is often the only reason I'm on the forums rather than doing whateverthehellIfeellike in game :)

'The grind' doesn't exist unless you create it! It's all in people's heads.

Keep having fun CMDR o7

I only started about a month ago, and decided from day one that I would absolutely not hard grind credits. So, I pick up circular trading runs, and just enjoy the views. Somedays, I make decent money, other days not so much. ("OH lordy please help us!! donate half of all your money to our Famine/Outbreak relief funds!!!")

I am absolutely not a combat pilot either, so I fly in Mobius PG (XBox EU Version). If I get Interdicted, I NEVER submit. ALWAYS evade! (it invariably is much easier these days).

I RP on Powerplay (this is what FDev hope you will do with it currently. Strong imagination required!), and tell myself that I am helping the blue-haired one regain her rightful position of Empress and remove that cruel aunt of hers.

After a month of playing I have an A-rated Type-6 with an ADS, and about 7M in the bank.
Excellent Bonzo!
Are you the Urban Spaceman?

I was walking past the grounds of an asylum once, and heard from behind the fence people chanting: "Six! Six! Six! Six!"
Curious, I tried to peer over the fence, but it was too high, but I found a hole in the fence and peered through, when someone poked me in the eye, and the inmates began chanting: "Seven! Seven! Seven! Seven!"

i remember that day well, we got 42 if memory serves.. or maybe it was lemur? medication being what it was.
