Yes, Slawkenbergius but we are a finite bunch that has pledged that high. Once the development is done, its done, so you are getting a lot, you are a founder ... and in the years gone by that will be a rare thing indeed as the masses arrive to the game. I mean hell; people still drop their cups of tea in EVE when they see a 2003 character covert black ops into a null or lowsec system. That kind of thing in itself carries rep. There needs to be a solid way for FD to make its extra pennies after we are done and dusted as founders, you know this.
So imagine this, if we get through the years a steady stream of beautifully crafted, exceptionally detailed ships, with histories, with build dates and details, say the likes you get in a flight sim ... FSX or X-Plane 10 for example? Can you imagine the money rolling in for FD if they do that right? Hell, that would make for an utterly wild and dynamic galaxy as the years rolled by; it would introduce a collectors market into the game as these ships were introduced.
I love what’s going on over with SC but I think the ED ships have the chance to be something exceptionally special if done right. They "have" partial histories so FD should give them. different ship interiors, different HUD systems, different models and classes, make them truly come alive. I mean, why not "use" some of those excellent alternate dev designs as different model classes. In addition, give us history and details on them, make us fall in love with them; make them more than just another disposable ship in the ED station sales hangers. If FD can do that, I will say again, they will absolutely knock the ball out of the park and make money doing so.
Fact is, they have our "love" for the game, we are sold with the ships of old and such, they need to foster that, kindle it and bring in a new wave of love for their universe, its worlds and its ships. There is a massive flightsim market out there that buy planes to their hearts content, there is also a mass market out there of young, middle and old (with money) who want the same thing, who want to get out into space and explore the galaxy in an open sandbox space sim. You are seeing that in the sales of SC but SC does not have a true simulated "galaxy" to play in. FD simply needs to offer that on a plate with all the richness and ship details and the masses will bite like there is no tomorrow.
Do not think you are loosing anything by opening the ship market up for sales Slawkenbergius; it would be an opportunity for FD to specialise on their ship design and build classes.
