Should Elite Dangerous add clans/player factions in the future?

Or players can stop being lazy and actually read up on what they are purchasing.

Regardless - Elite IS an MMO - it just happens to fall outside of the norms of casual MMO players.

What norms does it fall into, then? You said "outside the norms of casual MMO players" - are you under the impression that more hardcore MMO players would find Elite's multiplayer mechanics anything else than laughable?

Or the company that makes the game can remove the "massively multiplayer" from their front page where most people read about the game before buying it.
I can do this all day.

It is an MMO. The entirety of the players affect the BGS. This entire game is based on players competing through the BGS. With the number of players this game has, that's about as massive as any other game out there.

32 max players is not a MMO, and players shouldn't have to investigate the claims of a developer. There's comes a time when the responsibility falls on the product maker and calling this an MMO as listed on steam is a perversion of the truth. You are connected to a large population with regard to the background simulation, but that might as well a web based game for all its value as a MMO feature.

How many other full 3d games have instances larger than 30 with twitch combat?

An how many have larger instances that 30 without?

I personally believe it is an MMO but luckily for me it has most of things I don't like about MMOs which is a bonus in my book.

I think we've got a little misunderstanding here, mate. I was quoting that bit from Steam to counter a point by Reaper99 saying the game is not advertised as an MMO, when it obviously is.

My apologies. I keep seeing this argument regurgitated on the forums that this game isn't an mmo when all evidence points to the fact that it is. +1 for you.

The Stargazer in me would rather they put their efforts into making the simulation side of things more real by incorporating more physics approved visual effects and phenomena.

100% with that.
on top of that
The team should focus on also adding comets, asteroids in orbit and finishing off adding all of the moon's to Sol, oort clouds would be nice as well. These should be higher priority than adding guilds.

I don't believe there is such a thing as "playing a game wrong", but playing EVE without joining a corp is as close as you may possibly get. Beyond your personal experience, surely you can see the value of newbie-friendly corps in educating and helping new players. EVE University was the only reason why I managed to get into the game, and Elite is poorer for not having something similar.

I prefer to learn to play a game by um playing it.

I avoid reading manuals and never join any sort of "training Guild" in any game, for me it spoils the whole point of learning to master the game if someone just showing how you do everything.

Any player that has to declare themselves hardcore, is not a hardcore player.

What are you even saying? What are you responding to? You said that Elite falls "outside the norms of casual MMO players". I asked for a clarification, since you seemingly believe that it does not fall outside the norms of more hardcore players. What is it that you're trying to say?

That's fair enough, there's fun in that, and that's what I like to do in many games. However, I can see why trying to do the same in Elite is extremely frustrating for many players, seeing how the game explains itself poorly and many areas of the UI aren't very well thought out. It's good to have that option of providing assistance to newbies, we all want more people playing the game.

There are some requests that, in the total of the thread, should be fought against. Player owned/control of assets should be avoided. Changes that allow for domination of system space should be avoided.

The Pro-Group side should develop a coherent list of features. Then we can move off of the subjects we agree on. Ans we won't have to face ridiculous characterizations as above.

It would be so interesting and fun to see on these forums, both Pros and Cons group try to find ways to implement these features in the game, with the least negative impacts...for everyone!! That is what mature people of different mindsets are able to do when they really want to achieve something together. I am not sure if you realize it but, to tell a group of people (that do not see things the same way you do) that their ideas are ridiculous and should not even be discussed , is very condescending and un-productive.

Elite: Dangerous is a space adventure, trading, and combat simulator that is the fourth release in the Elite video game series. Piloting a spaceship, the The game is the first in the series to attempt to feature massively multiplayer gameplay, with players' actions affecting the narrative story of the game's persistent universe, while also retaining single player options.

That's the game description from the wiki by the way.^^^^

Thank you...I snipped a bit just for the purpose of thanking you....I will show the following
1. first in the series to attempt to feature massively multiplayer gameplay with players' actions affecting the narrative story of the game's persistent universe, while also retaining single player options. it attempts to feature MMO gameplay...not make it exclusive game play...it was not advertised as an MMO but rather MMO features...aspects to allow for emergent game play.

It was intended to always hold the spirit and context of the originals in their iterations...DB wanted to add multiplayer abilities to it...allowing for friends and buddies to wing up...to this end he has. As a matter of fact at one point the game during its kickstart campaign lawded the single player only mode...not solo...due to the nature of a persistent universe...this ended up becoming solo rather than single player...thus was born the ability to move between the modes seamlessly so to speak.

It was never intended to be strictly an MMO...there is a difference...that's why all modes of play have their merit and are just as viable and have just as much right as the other camp...

for this sir...and your help...a plus one...I know it was intended to support your statement....and without the rest of the information and live broadcast from FD it would...but taking the information as a whole ...it is a different critter that works to have both camps and those in between have something they enjoy. It does this well...you won't be able to change that...nor the other camp change it to solely in their favor. This isn't your ordinary MMO...with a little carved out space for pve for all of those types to sit in while the pvp world enjoys all the benefits....this one is a different breed and it works...it hasn't been done...its new...they have their own ideas on how they want it to evolve...I'm good with it, but I knew what I was signing on for...I read the fine print...I knew the freedom I was getting and was happy about it...if I want to play a game that forces me down a path I can choose from a lot of other games...this allows total freedom...freedom to pvp or be left alone to play the environment without people infringing on how I choose to spend my time...and that is the important part...the respect for others choices...if im in open, I'm playing by the restrictions that FD said was acceptable...that's fine...I'm good with it...I'll mix it up win/lose/or draw im fine...I'm a fighter junkie...so its ok...when I want to do something else though...FD has afforded me the freedom to play my way...the same for others...

I spend most of my time as I said in open...for multiple different reasons...events, player faction events...one of by the way was yesterday...I know several people in here that took part in it and saw them in passing while on the hunt for em...totally fun times...but again...if I want to go photograph the galaxy in solo...I have the freedom to do so...or hang out with my buddies in a group...drinking beverages of choice and sittin in a lawn chair...my choice...others have the rite to the same choices...FD ensured that...

Answer this...why does it matter so much to force people to play one way, and be subjected to possible unwanted, unneeded, and unwarranted aggravation just to make a select group happy with more targets?? what makes that group more entitled?? what gives one one group the rite to impose their will on the other?

How is those playing in solo or group impeding your ability to have fun in open? are they friends? do you miss em?...call em...nationwide no long distance...voip no charge ts all you want...invite em over...I don't say this in any kind of way except logical...not heated...not irritated....I know its pve vs pvp....prolly always will be...I can say this... The game will continue to evolve along the path that FD chooses for it...it was their brain child...it was their dream...it was their realization of the dream...its going to be a great ride and journey...enjoy it...debate it...leave it...in the end...it will and always will be a part of the Elite world many of us came to know a long time ago...and it will be around for a good while longer thanks to FD.

Fly safe all

If we are talking MMO you better be at least 3 digits. Anything else depends. It's usually a design decision balancing players against environment. It's usually 64 or less. But if it's less it better not be because of performance issues but because your environment is too small to provide a good experience for 64 players.

If there is a bulletin board and GalNet news system, then an "extension" of that should be usable for communicating with people in our player group, or in our allied minor factions, or powerplay factions, or the like.

I don't mean large player associations or guilds necessarily, but we really need something better for communicating and arranging to wing up. The people who are successfully doing so seem to me to be the ones who have a lot of out-game effort invested.

And your faction won't ever be asking to be able to issue passes in the way some NPC systems are currently controlled, to stop all those other group and solo players messing up the influence and control of the home system you want to grab for yourself?

This is where "let's take this a bit further" gets you. It's called an Overton Window and is a way of shifting the debate - you first espouse a wild and crazy position (sOlO mUsT dIe!] and then later your real position which, due to being contrasted with the first position, appears "moderate" [sum klanz r gud!]. It's common, which is why we see it a lot.

Whatever the "clanz" want can already be provided with Private Groups. Any "solution" past that won't work for structural reasons but some people just won't accept this fact.

This game needs more options not less of them.
blaze your own trail sure but some people want to blaze that trail in a group. Look at mobius, the code, the fuel rats, ect there's a playstyle in this "MMO" that isn't natively supported. It should be.

Player Faction is Not a Guild:

- There's no player faction wide-chatrooms
- Players cannot claim any solar system, station, outpost, planet, spaceport.
- Players cannot manage the membership of a Player Faction
- Players cannot assign roles and specific management controls to players in a Player Faction
- Players cannot have ship decoration of their player faction

and thank the Space Gods for that! Well, maybe #5 is ok. Trying to strong-arm FD isn't really an effective tactic.

Shocked to see that the plurality is against it. There are already player groups like The Code for instance, and not having in game features just stifles people wanting to do that. And if you don't want your experience "ruined" by other players that's what Solo is for.

And wait for the "you must remove Solo because cheating!!!!" push? No thanks.

If they stick to that then Elite Dangerous will always be a shallow sandbox. No deep emergent gameplay.

Y'know, many people have posted about emergent gameplay: Fuel Rats, Code, Mercs, Distant Worlds, etc etc. You are taking the position that the only "emergent gameplay" you'll consider is the clan mode, as especially in ownership of assets. However, other people are busy making "emergent gameplay" while the clannies wander around proclaiming that there is none unless it's their way.
