Should Elite Dangerous add clans/player factions in the future?

You think that people aren't doing it already with cargo transferring...?

I'm sure it goes on (along with other pay-to-win exploits that I don't think should be discussed on this forum), but that isn't a reason to make it easier. You want the benefits of the materials, go find them yourself, like anyone else.

So because you want to do it yourself, you feel that others shouldn't have the ability to collaborate and you feel somehow disadvantaged...

Hah... another one of those...

Edit:

So much for the game being multiplayer/Co-op...

Well you lot can argue as much as you want, the day FD give us green is the day this game takes off properly. If I had people to actually talk to in open I'd never set foot in solo again.

Paying someone else to do it (which is what we were discussing) isn't 'collaboration'.

Where did you think the money came from? And why would you focus only on the few that will use this avenue?

Edit:

Wait wait, let me guess, you're against people who want to help out their friends from the start with credits, as well. It's even worse since probably no money is exchanged, but expression of friendship.

Now tell me how friendship is so worthless in the face of solitary effort and anti-social gesture.

You do understand the social nature of humanity, right? It's not that complex.

People were selling accounts with certain amount of money in them long before collectors were introduced, you either haven't been here for long or you're purposely ignoring it for the sake of argument.

Yes, I haven't been here long. And no, I wasn't "purposely ignoring it" - I was well aware that it happened (hence my comment about not discussing such things here). I have been well aware that similar things have been happening for as long as online gaming with any form of persistent 'wealth'/'goods' have been about.

And cut out the facile ad hominems - they only illustrate how weak your core arguments really are.

Oh really, let's play strawman then, I suggest you stop playing strawman with me this second .-.

And oh, I think your core argument is weak... because strawman .-.

See how productive we are becoming? How fast do you wish for the moderators to get involved?

Yes, I understand the social nature of humanity - I have a first-class honours degree in anthropology from a leading British university. I also know how to recognise pompous blow-hards and trolls - not that a degree is necessary for that...

Oh that is great, I also wield that capability of spotting pompous blow-hards and trolls without needing a degree, that makes both of us.

Any other productive observation by any chance?

Well, it's just a typical guild system in pretty much any MMO:

1. Rank system-

Different rank have different authority/access right.

2. Public Announcement-

Daily message/objective that administrator-ranking members can access to edit/publish for the members of the guild.

3. Guild Storage-

Items shared around, I suppose materials would be a good start, and obviously credits can be deposited, too. Of course, access right has to be granted before access different levels of the storage.

4. Guild Chat-

Chatting between members of the guild that is currently online.

5. Guild member tab in the communication panel-

Easy access to communicating/wing up with members of the guild.

6. Guild tag-

Issued to distinguish themselves.

Then just go from there, these are pretty much the basics.

For the advance stuff, if applicable, create things like guild missions/guild base/starport. Then there's base building, territorial warfare, tag decal uploading, blah blah blah.

FD can probably even monetize off from this...

These features are pretty common in any MMO, how many of these should be implemented is up to FD.

Now you see, if this had been the OP statement, we could have had a lot clearer idea of what was under discussion. However, unfortunately, we have no idea if this is what OP was also thinking.

Gentlemen.

Take your differences to the dueling fields. Potato guns at dawn?

This is a place for discussions, not arguments.

Again, you're incorrect, as I've showed you a couple of pages back. The game is advertised on Steam as an MMO. There's no room for interpretation there.

Plenty of room for interpretation.

Here is a timeline of MMOs: https://biobreak.wordpress.com/mmo-timeline/

Plenty of variation there. Look at the earliest ones, i'm sure they didn't have many of the features that people these days consider to be part of a "true" MMO, but they still fit the moniker of MMO. Also, they do list ED, interestingly enough.

Here is the wiki article about the history of MMOs: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_massively_multiplayer_online_games

I would say my first MMO was Tiny MUD, as i recall, hosted at Imperial College. We connected via VT220 dumb terminals connected to a PRIME server and then telnetted out over JANET. Text based. No clan system, no ownership, just lots of people running around doing text based quests and having social interactions.

Now, i know the common argument, "but things have moved on, they have evolved". Sure they have. But evolution doesn't have to be linear. There isn't only one way to skin a cat. An MMO does not have to have specific features pioneered by certain games to be an MMO.

All it has to be is massively multiplayer online. And ED fits that requirement.

Here's my productive observation:
Working together in groups and helping your newer members progress is really a fun part of the game. Whether it's transferring Paladium from a veteran to a newb or running bulk trade in a T-9 to allow the newb to get a wing trade bonus.
I've certainly been "guilty" of transferring tons of cargo to my son to help him get started.
We're now in the 2nd year of Elite: Dangerous. Many of us are approaching "Elite" rank or have already gotten there. New players, especially if they want to play in open, are outclassed at every turn and there needs to be a way to quickly get them up to a more even playing field. I'd rather that be through friendship and cooperation then through any kind of "pay to win" method.

P2W is dirty word everywhere, even I dislike it, and it ruined a lot of games I enjoy.

However, people who are desperate/indolent/rationalize it to be the norm enough to do this is in the minority. The material still has to be gathered, so there's work put in to collect the material. Then even if someone is willing to pay real cash for it, it's not like the cash fell from the sky.

Also, materials won't guarantee any overwhelming advantage. Those that do PvE only shouldn't even care, those that PvP are usually competitive, so they will take every edge they can find. Lone wolves know how hard/dangerous it is to take on a player from a group (possible reinforcement/more resource to draw from), and will most likely place themselves on equal footing with said player before engaging. Well-known independent PvP pilots are often better skilled than those that rely on a group, anyway, though not always.

Only the obvious one - that this thread, like so many others on this forum is driven by the perception of those arguing in favour of specific (or in this case, vague) changes that they are somehow uniquely hard-done-by, and that if FD were to modify the game to suit their personal agendas everything would change for the better. A perception singularly lacking in any meaningful verifiable evidence to back it up. Par for the course for more or less any game forum, everywhere, for as long as such forums have existed...

And equivalently, those that constantly voice their opposition against credible changes are ignorant to their lack of experience and believe that themselves are somehow more informed.

It's truly tragic that many disguise to be credible when their statement and suggestions clearly suggest otherwise.

Edit:

For someone who joined the forum in December of 2015, I'm surprised that you took the time to read through enough threads to draw the conclusion you did. I'm impressed.
