Should I be able to play Elite Dangerous without nine spreadsheets?

Just decided to give EDEngineer a go, I always marvel at how data goes from one location to another and is read and used to update other stuff and comes out of my second screen.... the future it's like, now... or something .

Spread sheets? Nope not needed here.
Although I do seem to have an extensive collection of notepads for Engineers (and other cool stuff before the bookmarks came in)

Actually thinking about it, less trees would have died if I had used Spread sheets lol

OP that's ultra nerdy but whatever floats yer boat. ;)

Don't believe the Eve spreadsheet hype. I played for 5-6 years. Gave 30bil away when I stopped and not a spreadsheet in sight.. Although if you decide to become a ship builder you may end up in a padded cell after the extreme spreadsheet OCD kicks in.

Notepad is my external aid of choice. I have it open to keep a track of my current goal, and to make it easy to copy/paste names into the Galactic Map

I did use a spreadsheet years ago during the beta, but I've not entered a cell for a long long time.

I use spreadsheets well old fashioned spreadsheets! I have several notebooks cuz I keep track of several things in the game what notebook for instance has cabs in it in each section I have information written down about all these systems I visit resources how many planets ect ect. Other sections have information about systems with populations and stations in what not. Another notebook I keep track of all my ships and modules. Alas another notebook I keep track of all my earnings. I have another notebook strictly for mining information and what not. This is all hand written, I kind of have spreadsheets everything orderly and accessible. Just thought I'd share that with you all

I had a friend and fellow Elite Dangerous player visiting me this week, and showed him the nine spreadsheets I use to keep track of the game. These cover everything from my fleet, and how they're equipped and engineered, to what upgrades I can get, and what materials I'll need for them, what I've got in storage, what engineers I've still to unlock and what I'll need to get them all to grade 5, what permits I can get and how I can do it, and more besides.

He pointed out, quite correctly, that if I need nine spreadsheets to just keep track of the game, and so I can remember what's going on at any one time, that the game is too complicated. Some of this at least, could be brought into the game after all with things like an in-game Wiki or better ship and storage information at any time.

I'm just wondering what you all think?

P.S. To anybody who's going to ask for a copy, this is an extremely complex spreadsheet with a lot of cross-linking and hard coding. You'd really need to know what you're doing in Excel to get to grips with it.

That`s more complex than flying an A320 in a good flight sim! I`ll admit some info should be ingame, especially tracking stuff like that.
