Worth every cent. Best long time VR experience for me. Buy it.
Used to be, but i think they stopped supporting it in favour of cqc.
If it's still there I don't think it's actually been patched since 1.2 or something.
if you bought elite alredy on steam or frontier elite will give you vr game key for free
You don't need a key for VR. Once you have bought the game, it natively supports it.
I think he may have been referring to a key for the Oculus store : I already have Elite Dangerous, can I get an Oculus activation key? (the answer is yes, you can).
If you can afford it; absolutely! I purchased a second account for my VR and seriously have never played ED outside of VR again. You won't regret it, it's simply jaw-dropping brilliant. I am running both versions on the same PC without any special setup. The version from Oculus can run on the same machine without any problem. Enjoy

So many VR games are just short "experiences" that I've come to the conclusion that the only reason for me to use VR is E:D.
Other than that, there are arcade racers like Radial G and Redout (an F Zero and a Wipeout clone respectively), and Simulators like Project Cars and DCS World, but there are very few fully-realised games for the VR platform.

Well, the same thing applies - you only need keys if you want to run E: D from Oculus or Steam, but you don't need to do that. I always run E: D from the launcher, and have both Oculus and SteamVR installed. While I did get the Oculus key, I don't use that installation at all (as far as I am aware, that is the only way you can get E: D to run from Oculus Home, though).
Yes, I seem to be forever collecting these experiences. Most of them are great, but not something you'd go back to. Unlike E:D
.I bought my Rift just for use with Elite and Assetto Corsa, and don't regret it for a second. Elite really is spectacular in VR, luckily now, there are many other great games too. DCS world is also jaw dropping in VR. Do it, it's awesome.

to each their own. I find my VR collection is now starting to mirror my standard game collection.
insane numbers of games and no damn time to play them. I agree there is no fallout VR game yet (tho falloutVR IS coming) but there are heaps of games, as in actual games not just VR experiences.
Are you limiting yourself to steam by any chance? even on steam there are plenty of proper games but the oculus store ONLY has VR content and its better vetted as well.
the climb, technolust, edge of nowhere, landfall, pinball FX2 VR, defence grid 2 VR, chronos, mages tale, time machine VR, shufflepuck cantina deluxe, sports bar VR, eve valkyrie, robo recall, arizona sunshine, superhot VR, raw data, lone echo, EVE V, blaze rush, dead and buried, eagle flight, VR golf, windlands, robinson the journey, narcosis, wilsons heart, luckys tale, damage core ( + some only on steam) Eleven table tennis, thrill of the fight, retroarcade neon

Its a big yes from me. I already had ED since retail and i got a Rift 4 weeks ago in the summer sale on Amazon UK. It`s amazing is Elite Dangerous in VR !!
I use a AMD Ryzen 1700 Cpu with GTX 970`s and a 650Ti Boost with 16 GB ram and have NO problems running ED in VR. The Ryzen , doesnt even break a sweat. Awaiting on the AMD Vega 64 to be released.

One more YES to add to this thread! I've had ED and the RIFT for about a year now and cannot go back to 2D display. I've tried a few times As most have stated, the sense of SIZE and being IN the ship are the things that grab you. The galaxy map was difficult until I watched a few youtubes about mapping the controls to your HOTAS. No more problems there

It's definitely a 'killer app' for VR
but it's also a paycheck drain .. lol .. i've spent a tidy sum trying to chase the 'perfect' VR setup.
I would recommend the Thrustmaster Hotas X (if you've got a PS4, then get the X-4 then you can use it on both) - its cheap but works great with Elite. I recently traded up to the HOTAS warthog but the X series is a good starter
You might need to get a newer GFX card, depending on what you have now if you want to play in VR with everything dialed up to the max. I'm running with a GTX 1060 now and am able to get great performance with everything dialed up
Don't throw away your Xbox controller though. I play with a combination of Hotas and controller. The controller is bound to menu's, galaxy and system map, SRV and camera suite. I use the HOTAS for the actual flying part.
I just got a Buttkicker gamer 2, which makes VR and Elite even better, but I need to figure out a way to isolate it a little more so I can crank it up!
I did purchase Voice Attack on a recent sale, I might implement that at some point -- that's pretty far down my list of stuff to do though.
