General / Off-Topic Show us your retro gaming hardware/Software etc etc

I still got a Nintendo Super nes it still works, if that counts as retro gaming, I will have to set it up one day. Through I think my cousin might still be after it as a replacement for his, which got melted through an all day and all night gaming marathon.

Ok ok, I know this isn't hardware related, and I'll probably get banned for it - my real Spectrums are safely locked up in an attic an ocean away - but this is the result of twenty minutes of absolutely hilarious emergent gameplay :D

My collection has shrunk a lot in the last few years, but still have...

Dragon 64 bought new back in 1984 but without cables or Psu
Very early C64a which I bought off ebay about 10 years ago with a 1541-II which I bought new for my original system
Snes with about 50 carts
Amiga 1200
BBC Master system

Still gutted that my mother gave away my vectrex over 20 years ago :(

ZX-81 (with 16k ram pack, and stick on button keyboard).... oh yeah !

Ah, the 16k ram pack. Still have fond memories praying to the gods that their would be no minor vibrations that would slightly dislodge it bringing the whole system to a halt!

Not really playing Elite on the PET. I just made it up. I bought it about 5 years ago to learn 6502 assembly, something that totally mystified me back then and still does. :)
Fired it up still morning and it didn't work! ROM corruption? The screen went all funny. I was gutted. I had a look inside and found a mouse living in it! haha
It ran away leaving lots of droppings and M&M peanuts scattered over the motherboard. I cleaned the contacts on the chips and it eventually worked!

Still got my c64. Owned an Amiga 1000, zx81 (first computer), c16 and a commodore plus 4.

Jesus, Astrowar. Friend in Junior school had one of them. Was so jealous. Don't remember the Grandstand Scramble though.

Yes! I owned both of those!! [woah] [up]
I also had a similar boxing game. This must have been around 82-83? I was in middle school back then. I remember these because they helped me raise £20 for charity. The head teacher gave all the kids 50p, the idea being that we'd turn a profit from whatever venture to aid some charity. I chose to sell homemade toffee at lunchtime and did ok, but the real money came flooding in on the last day of the event where we all had to set up a stall in the PE hall and sell our stuff to the public. I decided to setup mini arcade and sell orange juice. The arcade games (10p per play) proved really popular. People stood hunched over these little things. I ended up turning 50p into £20 in six weeks. Whoa!
Some kid selling popcorn beat me to first place tho. [big grin]

Waaaaait...on the PC, is that...a model M keyboard?? Now I'm really jealous! :D

Haha, yeah, thanks guys. The company I work for had a clear-out (their first clear-out in 40 years) and they had amassed a room full of old computers including an IBM model 1 computer, complete. Someone snapped it up quick though but they still had several keyboards including a spare series 1 & 2 which I took home, unfortunately I couldn't get the series 1 to work. The key press on the model 2 has a beautiful metallic clicking sound and feeling that just pops under your fingers. Its only fault, the minus key on the num pad does not work.
While the IBM model 2 key press is beautiful the model 1 was simply spectacular! It had an even more metallic sounding key press and snappiness to it. I sometimes held it close to my ear and gently pushed the palm of my hand down on the keys just to listen to that sweet sweet crunch.

I'd highly recommend the IBM keyboards to anyone. All you need is a thing plugged into a thing and you're good to go. There is a company in the states however that bought the original IBM buckling spring keyboard patent and now make them brand new with USB connection for around £100. Be jealous no longer!!

Pull up on the key, take the cap off, spray some electronic contact cleaner down the spine, wait a few seconds, pull up very gently on the key hub until you hear a "gronk", push down quickly and firmly. Test it a few times, put the cap back on :D

If your model M doesn't work after that - either it's not a model M, or the universe has ended.

The spring underneath wasn't seated right that's all, but I also gave it a clean with some contact cleaner. I just assumed it was faulty and would not have bothered unless you told me. Cheers mate. :D
Send email pls.
