You guys are awesome. May I humbly ask how y'all made the forum algorithms cough up the goods? Is there a secret handshake involved? - Ninja'd by PM answer.

Hello there. Just so we get this out in the open, I am not a spam bot. And yes, that's probably what a spam bot would say to avoid suspicion and infiltrate human 'cyber' space but would a spam bot do THIS!

............

Exactly. A spam bot would be spamming for all it was worth by now, not posting the dot, dot, dot of silence. Okay, now that we've cleared that up a little info about me: :)

CMDR Ronin Vakris at your service. I've been playing Elite Dangerous for a little under a month now but I've been keeping an eye on this game ever since I heard about it (which was during it's initial Beta release). Finally decided to throw my lot in when Horizons was announced.

About Me
I like long walks on the Moon - ok, not that type of about me. PC gamer, Former X-wing Alliance and Freelancer player and fan who fell in love with the open world space sim genre right there and then and is very happy to finally have the space sim back on the map!

Currently flying an Adder like a leaf on the wind and loving this tough, agile little ship that I've lovingly upgraded. Feels like a smaller version of the Millenium Falcon, or actually Dash Rendar's Outrider :D

Looking forward to engaging with the Frontier devs and my fellow forum goers on here and out in the big black.
^ So young. So innocent. At least my attempts at comedy have improved. The retrospective cringe factor is real *shudders*

When I made my first post, on the Introductions Thread, I didn't know the full features of these forums, such as "Edit Post".
Re-reading it, I think a bit of editing should have been made.

Greetings from her Majesty's Penal Colony.

My history on space sims only go as far as Wing Commander series and Freelancer.
So when I heard there is a new space game in the making by the same guy, naturally I got excited and threw a lot of money at him thinking: "Make it happen!"
There wasn't much to do as SC was (and still is) in its infancy, so while waiting on its development, I started nosing about on the webs for other space sims that may be out there.
That's when I discovered Elite: Dangerous. Back in September 2014, in Beta phase. Still in a development stage, but at least this one was playable.

I didn't just discover E: D, but a whole community. I was surprised there were even old timers like me (I am in my 40's) playing E: D, and even more surprised to find out the depth of the game.
Whenever I didn't know what I was doing, the Forums were the first stop for answers. To all the users who post informative posts on this forum, my hat goes off for you.

After a year and a bit I still can't say I fully mastered this game.
I have been trading a lot towards the next spacecraft, partake in as many Community Goals as possible, doing a lot of bulletin board missions to rank up with Federation/Empire/Alliance - evenly,
I haven't picked sides or pledged to any power as I prefer to play as a Freelancer - play the way I want to play, at my own pace.
That was the original promise of the game that caught my attention in the first place - Blaze Your Own Trail.

This game has given me hours (errm, make that months) of enjoyment and I am definitely getting my moneys worth out of this one. I am yet to even scratch the surface.
With seasonal instalments and the promise of further development I hope it will be a long ride in the Elite Universe.

Chasing other ships is how I did some exploring last night, in fact I've sold my Basic D scanner - it's pretty useless at finding it's proverbial with both hands. But yes, being able to "see" ships but not planets doesn't really follow - it would make sense to reduce range of scanners but then you'd never find anyone else in the vastness of space :)

I would, but couldn't find it. The search doesn't seem to go back that far...

IIRC it was either about "your great Elite memories" (mine was watching Lunar Eclipse while playing C64 Elite, lights off) or Elite themed Ford Escort RS2000 skin for GT Legends I had made.

Anyway, one of those is the reason I registered here instead of staying in anonymous lurker mode (24/09/2009).

I bask in the glow of your virtual rep :D

Edit: Yeah - I've been busy in there as well!

I figured it would be interesting how we all started out 'back then'.

1. click your username
2. on the left side click "Find latest posts / Find latest started threads"
3. csearch your first post and reply with quote
4. copy it here with the date
5. Feel the newbism and enjoy that you are not alone :D

Well, if I do that it only goes back to September 2016. I guess there is a limit on how many posts that query can even load, and then just cuts off.

But my first post is probably unreachable anyway due to forums having been restructured, some closed-off or archived etc.
