General / Off-Topic Show us your very first post! :D

When I was beta testing: 9/1/14

Frustrating day?? Tons of crashes

All yesterday I played 8+ hrs with zero crashes and today for whatever reason ED crashes out of nowhere... playtime today so far has been 6 hrs with about 20 random crashes!

Its all good tho thats what the beta is for! I sent the error reports each time hopefully its helpful to the tech crew!

Anyone else experience this today??

Then my follow up:

So came to a conclusion after analyzing what had changed from yesterday because the crashes were continuing to occur over and over at a very silly rate and I realized that what I had changed was that today I was running windowed mode and not full...

Sure enough after I switched to full the crashed have stopped all together!

And when changing back to windowed they start again!

Not sure if I should open a ticket or post a new thread on this?? Just so that Its known...

Can't find my first post as they don't seem to go back that far, but here's the first thread I started: W@nkel engines in space, posted on 06/06/2014. (Hope this works - MB was so kind to edit the title for me back then as it was wrongly censored).

I think it might actually be my first post as well as I usually don't bother registering on games forums unless I start caring about a game. Funnily enough it's related to "Reverski", which still seems to be an issue today.

Is anyone out there using a laptop and what would you recommend ?

Hi Commanders,

I haven't bought Elite yet because I am saving for a new laptop to run it on, and I see no point attempting to run it on my 3 year old Toshiba with "Core i3" and "integrated graphics." I realize that most of you out in the void of space are likely to be running on high powered gaming PCs with separate boxes, keyboards and monitors, but what about laptops? Anyone out there running with a good laptop that they can recommend? Or is this a bad idea in the first place?

I bought an HP Omen 15 in the end - it works great. And thanks for the comments that got me going on this amazing journey into space [up]

Guess I'll do one of these too - been away from Elite for too long.
Played on Spectrum, BBC, early PC. Not played since Frontier.

Was waiting for full release but caved and brought into beta program last minute.
Now can't get out of super cruise so unplayable

My first post? I posted hello in the introduce yourself...my second was trying to figure out how to make my landing setting be the same as my flight settings...and my first 'real thread' was this one:

This game is about trading and the economy. I know I have read that there will be a player based economy, which is awesome. Is there going to be an in-house economist to maintain and watch the overall health and direction of the economy?

I have tried to dig through the posts and development notes and have not seen this discussed much. Searches have left me wanting in the information I have been able to find.

My first thread (9/10/2014), my first post is older than that, but... Well beyond the 500 post search limit!

So, I finally get my Eagle upgraded to a level where I happy to take it into combat, I drop out at the resource site near Freeport and start bounty hunting... I nailed about 15 bounties in an hour - and then the connection dies, all kills mean nothing .

Log back in, do the same thing, screw up and get killed by the first ship I take on - stats updated...

Don't ya just hate that?

Ok, I feel better now! Post your *tough luck* experience, and give us all a little giggle! You'll feel better, honest!

The hell was I on about? Eagle... Bwahahahahhahahaha...

So, my first actual post has been found (thanks to the CMDR who gave me the tip).
From the 28/9/2014
Hi, my name is Zee, and I'm an Elite addict from back in the late 1980's, on the Atari ST.

Now trying to figure out which low profile graphics card I can add to my HTPC to make it sorta work ok (AMD Athlon II X2 240, with M4A785T-M motherboard, and 4GB RAM). Though, I'll ask that in the appropriate forum...

good to see even back in july 2013 i was hassling for oculus rift support ;)

Hi

I have been following this for a while (though i didnt sign up to the kickstarter I must admit).

I have been a huge fan of elite as far back as i can remember, playing on my mates BBC 32, though most of my time was ploughed into playing it on my amiga 500. I dont think I have ever been so excited about the launch of a game as I was waiting for Frontier to launch. Even now i remember drooling over the screen shots months before launch.

When it launched even my Amiga 1200 struggled a little with it (god knows what it must have been like on the A500!!), even though I was never a fan of the (albeit more accurate) combat mechanics of Frontier, I still liked the game enough to bin off my amiga and purchase a PC!.

Of course I was 1st inline to purchase first encounters (which was probably my 1st ever introduction to playing beta code DOH!!) I have since played many betas, though at least those I knew what i was getting into ;) )

If I remember rightly out of the box you were invincible on that game so buggy was it, however it was (mostly) patched and I still lost hrs in the hundreds too it.

Since then there have been many similar games - some of them very good (privateer 2 is a great game and I look forward to checking out Chris Roberts' Star Citizen as well), but none have captured that feeling of excitement of trying out your new lasers, blowing up a pirate and seeing what is is their cargo when you scoop it up. I have also sunk much time into oolite, a brilliant game esp when you consider it is fully fan made, however none of these games will be as good as I hope a new elite will be.

So thats a bit about me and Elite (sorry to go on :) )

PS If E D supports the Oculus Rift it would make the OR a day 1 purchase for me when it officially launches (truth is I will get it anyway). Has there been any talk of supporting that?.

cheers

M.

Back from 2013 post or during Kickstarter I can't remember! I became an Alpha backer when the first alpha dropped - I couldn't bear to miss out on the fun!

EDIT*** and of course T.j. gave me a welcome :)

My name is Chris, I'm 41 and this will be the my fourth Elite game.

(This feels like checking into an addiction clinic pre-addiction!)

Elite (BBC Model B Disk - 1985/6/7!)
Elite 2 (PC - made final uni exams more difficult)
Frontier First Encounters (PC - stuck with it through the bugs)
Elite:Dangerous (2014!!!)

30 years since first shuttling Food and Computers between Feudal and Corporate Worlds, it's getting close to the time to pass it on to my son.

In the meantime I've played all of the X series and am disappointed (like many) with X-Rebirth. Such a waste of a good engine. Anyways, looking forward to the spring and meeting up with many of you in game - although my preference, certainly at this stage, will be to avoid any PvP stuff.

BTW, How do I get access to the Private Backers forum? I pledged 90 quid on Kickstarter back in January and haven't got round to checking it out! Kids eh? :)

From 04/12/2014. I am shocked, shocked to find my first post was complaining about the economy being busted. :)

I'm currently based in a high tech system that is importing Superconductors from four different systems and then dumping them on the market at loss. I started shipping them back to the supplier at a healthy profit.

I've been bringing Gallium back the other way. I've brought in hundreds of tons of the stuff and it seems to have INCREASED demand! The more I supply the more they want!

Up is down, black is white, dogs and cats are living together but at least I'm making 90k cr per trip.

Since I use ed:db for everything now I don't know if this sort of nonsense still goes on but it wouldn't surprise me. Also 90k cr per trip? I wouldn't even bother undocking for that now, lol.

From here - https://forums.frontier.co.uk/search.php and set the name to yours, then the dropdowns to one year and older.
I can't seem to find any of my posts before September 2016 :(

I tried that link to search for them but all it gave me was this statement:

"Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms.

If you didn't perform an actual search, and were linked here by a Search ID number, please read the following...
Search ID's are limited to the user or user group who searched for an item for their session on the forums. You will need to ask the person who linked the search ID for the raw search link. Is my entire past existence on the forums being secretly wiped as I go forward ala some kind of Langoliers effect? [cry]

Help me Obi-Yaffle Kenobi. You're my only hope!

Here you go!

Hello there. Just so we get this out in the open, I am not a spam bot. And yes, that's probably what a spam bot would say to avoid suspicion and infiltrate human 'cyber' space but would a spam bot do THIS!

............

Exactly. A spam bot would be spamming for all it was worth by now, not posting the dot, dot, dot of silence. Okay, now that we've cleared that up a little info about me: :)

CMDR Ronin Vakris at your service. I've been playing Elite Dangerous for a little under a month now but I've been keeping an eye on this game ever since I heard about it (which was during it's initial Beta release). Finally decided to throw my lot in when Horizons was announced.

About Me
I like long walks on the Moon - ok, not that type of about me. PC gamer, Former X-wing Alliance and Freelancer player and fan who fell in love with the open world space sim genre right there and then and is very happy to finally have the space sim back on the map!

Currently flying an Adder like a leaf on the wind and loving this tough, agile little ship that I've lovingly upgraded. Feels like a smaller version of the Millenium Falcon, or actually Dash Rendar's Outrider :D

Looking forward to engaging with the Frontier devs and my fellow forum goers on here and out in the big black.
