Just recently watched a series of videos on unheard of animals from each continent and wow our expectations of what average people know are so far off. The animals were community voted and include things like the takin and pangolin.

LMAO! Right! I used to think I knew a lot about animals until I started coming to these forums. The knowledge contained by Planet Zoo users is extensive and WAY beyond that of the average person.

Yeah, we’ve all got a lot of sources of animal information. Outside of Planet Zoo and the forums, most of my knowledge came from zoo trips, the Zoo Tycoon series, Zoboomafoo, and Jack Hanna when I was growing up. Nowadays, a good chunk of it comes from Mamadou from Casual Geographic. What about y’all? What is/was your main source of random nature trivia and fun facts?

* happy sigh *

I just had an awesome date today, and I wanna gush about it! The girl I’m dating is just so amazing, she crocheted me a plush heart, we walked around downtown St. Augustine, and just . . . AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHTVJRJDRYBTDKSBVTSCXAJTKD!!! I am a happy man.

We also saw a ton of protesters in front of the Castillo de San Marcos (the oldest masonry fort in America; I recommend looking it up) who were part of the nationwide protest against the recent tariffs. I will not give my input on the matter, as I want to remain as apolitical as I can on these forums. All I’ll say is that while they weren’t violent at all, we stayed well out of their way so we could just enjoy our date.

That’s it. I just wanted to gush about my day, and this was the first outlet I found myself using.

I loved Jack Hannah! I always watched him. Another one, I forget the name of it, but there was a show hosted by Loretta Swit that filmed at the animal park near my house, Marine World, Africa, USA, that today is now Six Flags Discovery Kingdom. Other than that it was lots of Discovery Channel and visits to an animal parks and zoos.

Here is what I used to watch as a kid:
  1. Steve Irwin
  2. Jack Hannah
  3. Jeff Corwin
  4. The Kratt brothers
  5. Most Extreme
  6. All the BBC nature docs
  7. Walking with Dinosaurs
  8. Nat geo wild
I also started to dislike shark week growing up, it became so sensationalized.

Oh man, where do I start?
  1. The Crocodile Hunter (duh)
  2. River Monsters
  3. Zoo Tycoon 1 and 2
  4. Animal encyclopedias/books
  5. Wild Kratts
  6. Zooboomafoo (a little, when I could catch it)
  7. Being raised practically (not literally) in the countryside
  8. Dinosaur encyclopedias
  9. Zoo trips
  10. The internet (usually when looking up animal husbandry for when I daydream of having an exotic terrarium)

Jeff frikkin’ Corwin! Core memory unlocked. I 100% forgot about his existence but I used to watch him a lot, too. Whatever happened to him?

*edited to say that a quick google search shows Jeff is currently doing season 4 of his latest show. I’ve just been oblivious. 😅

Thanks. I don’t know if I should get a Switch 2 and then just get a bunch of cheaper Switch 1 games and wait until the Switch 2 games get cheaper. Would it be worth it?
I might not be the best person to ask but I do think that is a good idea, sure games ment for switch 2 are going to be better, but having any Game run of switch 2 will be a upgrade.

I am going to get the bundle with Mario kart, I can live with the console price, but the games, I pray that Mario kart world is a exception and not a norm, because 80 for digital and 90 for physical is a crime, though the cataquack might make it worth it.

I watch alot of youtube videos and nature documentaries but I also get a ton from both independent study and as part of my degree. I also play alot of other games that focus on wildlife.

I forgot river monsters! Loved that show.

Oh, and who could forget Planet Earth and Blue Planet? I have them on disc. Never saw the sequels, though.
Might check them out
The sequels are fantastic. I have Planet Earth, Planet Earth II, Frozen Planet, and Blue Planet on Blu Ray. Need to get the other ones.

I actually had my first experience with at-home surround sound with Planet Earth. I set up speakers in my bedroom. I will never forget it - the camera going over the waterfall and the sound of the falls moving around me. It was super immersive.
