The sequels are fantastic. I have Planet Earth, Planet Earth II, Frozen Planet, and Blue Planet on Blu Ray. Need to get the other ones.

I actually had my first experience with at-home surround sound with Planet Earth. I set up speakers in my bedroom. I will never forget it - the camera going over the waterfall and the sound of the falls moving around me. It was super immersive.
Wait, there's a Frozen Planet? Good lord, I gotta find it now

Speaking of David Attenborough documentaries, these are just some of the ones I have on DVD - this pile was from back in 2017, and even then to watch all these programmes back-to-back I would have needed a full week. Probably added another ten or twelve DVDs since then.

AFRICA is so underrated for a nature documentary. I am also a personal huge fan of LIFE, it’s my first David Attenborough series I ever bought. I use to have it on my Kindle when I was a kid. I could watch it on car rides and plane rides.

Favourite Attenborough documentary series (albeit one that is scarcely available on DVD at all) was Wildlife on One - a series of 253 half-hour episodes, all narrated by Attenborough. I really enjoy how it has episodes that focus on an animal that otherwise just don't appear at all in a full hour-long programme, or just appear as background animals. Just some examples - there were full episodes about the lives of springhares, red-tailed hawks, Thomson's gazelles, bat-eared foxes and feral cats.

That is a super impressive collection :)

For the Americans enjoying Attenborough - do you get them all narrated by him? I was surprised once when staying with my cousin in the states and a major Attenborough series (I forget which one) was on the Discovery channel, but some American guy was doing the voice over. Also they had re-edited all the footage to focus almost solely on the predators hunting and killing the prey. It wasn't really Attenborough at all. Do you get the real deal over there on tv or only if you buy it on dvd?

I don't have cable, so I dunno. I watch documentaries on disc, not streaming

I seem to recall that the original Planet Earth was narrated by Sigourney Weaver in the USA.

Regarding the editing of documentary footage for an American audience, I remember reading in the autobiography of a British wildlife filmmaker about his experience with this. He had filmed a documentary about the hippos at Mzima Springs in Kenya (a set of crystal-clear springs - chances are if you see footage of a wild hippo underwater, it was filmed there), and one of the core themes of the programme was how hippos supported all other life in the otherwise sterile springs by bringing in nutrients from the surrounding plains via their dung. The TV executives wanted to cut all mention of hippo dung out, because it would upset Kraft Cheese who did all the sponsoring. From what I can gather, the executives eventually relented and the programme aired as intended. It was a huge success and ended up winning some big awards.

Oh that's so cool.

Haha Kraft cheese being concerned about the word "dung" in association with their product 😅 they're not wrong!

I got some lovely rosemary and potato bread from the new Gail's artisan bakery today. Anyone not from the UK - Gail's is a phenomenon that has hit the UK high street as hard as Starbucks did when it first arrived. Suddenly every small town has one and every city has several. I have been holding out cause I don't like supporting these kinds of chains but in my small town we don't have a tonne of choice and it lured me in. My god are the gettin's good! I am now addictes to their cookies and trying all their interesting breads. Not great coffee though so at least I won't be blowing my whole paycheck there.

This is not the specific one near me but this is the vibe -

How is the weather for everyone? We finally got a nice sunny day in a while so I have spent like 2 hours assembling my new balcony furniture. Of course, I had 2 little “quality controllers” who “helped” alot. 🙄😂

Looking good (oh, and the furniture is nice, too)
Well, the weather, huh? It's hot and humid 350 days of the year, tolerable 10 days, and cold 5 days. Welcome to Texas!

For real, though, it's getting hot and humid, but last weekend was real cold for some reason. And soon we're getting back into hurricane season, so I hope the city is well prepared. We had a freeze and we surprisingly did well, probably because we were actually prepared for once

What goodest workers and quality controllers! They sure are helping hard, breaking down the boxes and doing the important and necessary safety checks 🦺✅

We are having an unusually warm spring in the UK. Blue skies all week :) Last year it rained basically every day so hopefully this year is going to be the opposite!

We don't get skies this colour much, it makes everyone happier and all the birds are singing cheerfully outside my window 🎵 I just love it. Almost time to take Tigs for his walk and maybe I'll get an ice cream. It is 12*C / 53 F, by British standards positively tropical!

I do not envy anyone living in an area where hurricanes and tornados occur. That must be really annoying and horrifying, although it is interesting how people adapt to these and they are a mundane thing if they are not the most extreme ones.

It's not just the strength winds, it's also the flooding. Houston is literally a swamp; we have bayous and lakes all over the places, some man-made, some natural. So, these hurricanes are very damaging.
In 2017, we had Hurrican Harvey hit. The damage was devastating for many, and the city didn't recover for several years. I remember seeing mountains of trash in front of several house for over 2 years

Ah yes, the famous british weather, haha. But that isa beautiful sky, it has been very similar here in Czech Republic, around 15°C. And now you made me want to go grab an ice cream too. 😭 I think I will treat myself after all the work with those two. 😄

Yea I can imagine. Floods are common here too. Not as damaging as those near the ocean, but there are always several (usually older) people that refuse to evacuate and die in them. Not to mention the abandoned animals left to drown. Always horrendous.

It's always a real shame, but there's only.so much you can do in these situations.
But lemme change the subject, because it's a little heavy for me.

Actually, what is Czech Republic like? I don't know anything about it

Sure thing. Well, it is a small country in the heart of Europe - literarly, we are right in the middle of it. We are good at playing Ice hockey and making beer. Yep, those are the notable deeds. 🙃
