Skybox Nerfed?

So exploring is not so beautiful anymore...

Tip from someone who works in the software industry...

ON and OFF ability.

Sigh

What has changed exactly?

From what I can tell, low rez and short view range, when you are far out it used to be beautiful and smooth colours.

Now all you get is a black low rez smoke. Nebula are still high rez.

Just looks wrong now :(

I don't see any change here.
Make sure you are running the latest drivers for your card.

Have latest drivers and VERY high end puter

All settings are on maximum.

Replication Steps.

1. Get 500ly further out away from core
2. Fly at least 3,000ls from star
3. Look at grainy black cloud where stars used to be

No need for a screen shot or ticket...

From V1.0.0 patch notes

"Sky box view distance altered to reduce memory usage in highly populated regions"

Or Nerfed...

must've missed that reading notes - i was wondering what has changed - seen the skybox look like from some indie game 10years ago sometimes :(

explains a lot and totally agreed: we need OPTIONS to keep the high settings - was NO performance hit for me before, now its just looks awful...

FD put something that looks like the generic clouds filter from Photoshop on the skybox.Personally i dont like it.It make the skybox look dirty.

EDIT: oh, you mean they cut the distance for closest star systems are rendered?

I havent seen any performance issues either since release. Im gonna check what it looks like now. Space needs to look good. Its what we look at 99% of the time. :)

Thank you! This is exactly what I am referring to.

I would prefer an option in graphic settings as my rig can cope fine. Not having an option to put it to High or Ultra and just nerfing it to LOW is pants IMHO

Noticed this too recently. Not sure if it always happens, but the skybox often looks incredibly artifacty. There are square edges to what should be soft-edged boundaries between different star densities. It is prominent enough sometimes that it looks more like a checkerboard of 100 by 100 pixel squares.

Well, I think memory usage is not a big deal for some people. I have 16GB RAM. But it seems this game doesn't come in a 64-bit version. For a game of this scale, one would think 64-bit support is a *must*?

Are they planning to have a 64-bit version in the future? This would give them way more breathing room with memory usage. Many people already have 8GB RAM already.

I'm not sure they'll add this in the graphic options.I hope they refine it, because now looks really generic.Btw these clouds arent visible in real life, atleast they dont look like this. The milky way also doesnt look like is presented currently in-game, hope they tweak this too.

If the change is targetted at highly populated regions but the change has a negative effect in less populated regions as you are indicating, isn't it worth ticketing?

Exactly my thoughts when I first read that patch note. Mine was running fine on max awesomeness but now I have to run lower because of others who can't (which isn't their fault either), What's next a mobile phone version of the game so we all play what the worst phone can handle? We need an option for stuff like this FD, really we do! Few people have the same hardware setup, do not simply take away but make it a choice ;)
