Small Arms in Elite Dangerous universe

So... It just occurred to me that we don't know how a handgun, a rifle or any other small arm looks like in Elite Dangerous... Anyone with any ideas? or is there any lore surrounding the personal weaponry of troops/pilots/civilians in the lore of Elite?

Sadly... There isn't any true lore regarding ground combat or much of one, other than the SRV, and I hope to god that the Fdevs don't consider the SRV as 'Spacelegs'... My guess is that you would either have plasma, or projectile weapons like normal hand guns and rifles we have today, as they can be fitted to fighters. Small and light enough to carry.

How would owning handguns make any sense when we cant even swear at each other and nobody can see half the ship names because they are apparently offensive...but owning a handgun? No problem here ye go sir...

Well I've already put the suggestion out there that when our canopy is blown we should be able to fire a sidearm out the window.
